Lighthearted- What petty thing(s) bother you?

I have quite a specific example.

I have a family member who saves photos from my social media page, saves them and then posts them onto her own page. (Without permission.)

It has been driving me nuts, even though it’s so petty!

What about you?

The impossibility of having a light-hearted thread about minor annoyances without the misandrists showing up.

TigerRag · 29/03/2026 18:55

Keypad tones on mobile phones. It's one of the first things I switch off when I get a new phone

Catladywithacat · 29/03/2026 18:50

People that don’t know how to drive

Poo is the only acceptable word.

It's not. It makes you sound like a child. Why on Earth wouldn't you say you were going to the bathroom or toilet?

That’s me. I had some lessons, but I just couldn’t hack it. I have autism and driving was just too much for me to manage. I’m far safer to myself and others off of the roads.

I wish I could drive though!

Why does that bother you? Some aren’t cut out for driving, and are safer off the road.

DH tap-tap-TAP-TAP on his laptop.
Tinny music from games from DS phone.
Amazon refusing to ring/knock and just dump the parcel somewhere.
People reading but not replying to messages so you have to ask their partner and/or parents the specific thing you were told to ask them about.
The family in Lidl today who were basically browsing when it was rammed and I had two trolleys and a clear list. They were stood in front of most stuff we needed to buy, just standing there gassing about “oh is this the tomato’s we had in that recipe from your sisters cousins nephew?” And not actually PURCHASING the tomato’s, just standing in the way!

Grrr…tomatoes! Petty, I know!

Adults who've never learned to drive.

People who don't know the difference between discreet and discrete.

Two separate words with very different meanings. Do NOT use them interchangeably.

Thank you.

What word is better though? Shit is awful and crude. I heard someone recently mention faeces and thought that sounded ridiculous, in the context of there being dog faeces on the path. Bowels moving is even worse in my opinion. Number two sounds too childish. Take a dump is gross.

Poo is the only acceptable word.

CruCru · 29/03/2026 15:56

People (pretty much always women) who stand around posing with their mouths open. It doesn’t look sexy, it looks like they are daft and have adenoid trouble.

Women who get lip filler and other shit done to their faces. It’s going to look awful soon and it’s going to date. A bit like those barbed wire tattoos.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/03/2026 20:50

Anyone over about 7 referring to her ‘bestie’.
Anyone who spells Keir (Starmer) as Kier.
Ditto Lurpak as Lurpack.

Oh my good god I’ve been spelling the PM’s name wrong. I would like to unreservedly apologise. That is really annoying. I’ve annoyed myself actually.

I will add: damp sleeves.

ClippyMuldoon · 29/03/2026 09:11

For the 8th billion time - gotten is NOT an Americanism.

Why are so many of you are obsessed by this and are so wrong about it? Although I could also wonder why I keep trying to point out you precious Guardians Of The Holy And Correct English are wrong. As you so often are.

daisychain01 · 29/03/2026 06:36

LoyalMember · 28/03/2026 22:18

British people who use really stupid Americanisms when they speak.

What, like gotten, my bad, circle back 😂I agree! And the response yeah in an email. Grrr. Is shop the edit an Americanism. That's my most hated one wherever it comes from! It makes no sense.

daisychain01 · 29/03/2026 06:31

Dog walkers with those ridiculously long leads in their dog, so it's like the dog isn't actually on a lead. They walk along oblivious to anyone coming up behind them and take up the entire width of the lane.

Ditto groups of people who take up all the space as if they own the road/lane with no attempt to keep to one side, just walk along yabbering away and thinking they're the only people on earth. When did our society become so selfish?

Ahwig · 28/03/2026 22:10

People who go shopping and meet someone they know and they stop dead and block the whole aisle with their trolleys while they have a chat.

LoyalMember · 28/03/2026 21:13

Loose/lose.
Could have/could of.
Would have/would of.
There/their.

WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 28/03/2026 17:49

The incorrect use of "myself" and "yourselves" drives me bonkers!

It's mostly a workplace occurance and call centre operatives (sorry!)

A few examples:-
Can I help yourself with anything further?
I'll send the details across to yourself.
I think we need to have a teams meeting with yourselves.
Please forward that on to myself.

I cringe every time someone uses those words in the wrong context.

Also, I think this might be a Midlands thing, but using brought instead of bought.

E.g. I brought a new house. I feel like replying with where have you brought it to? But I don't say it out loud, even though I really want to.

LoveheartBear · 28/03/2026 11:35

I’m glad my tip about where to find the leaflet in the medicine box was helpful to some of you 🙂.

I can’t recall who said they had a box where the leaflet was at the other end, I wonder how usual that is? I typed the question into Google, and it said that, typically, the leaflet is the at end where the batch number etc is.

The kid bouncing a basketball in the garden behind us right now while I am trying to lounge in bed.

Preferable to him yelling at his mum to fuck off, that he also does, but not what I want on a Saturday morning

LoyalMember · 27/03/2026 19:02

Grown adults who say 'poo'. Grow up and speak like mature adults, ffs.

Completely agree - it's something I really hate, along with 'wee'. Why don't people just say they are going to the loo or bathroom, rather than go into detail about what they intend to do there???

Auburngal · 28/03/2026 07:15

People who don’t read signs, terms etc then post on social media about an offer they didn’t get.

Then complain it’s a scam.

Wasted many hours of my life explaining to customers at my previous job then refunding.
The wine offer where you buy 6 bottles or more at £6 each. A customer buys £5.50 wine. We point out the sign “oh it’s a scam” they say.

Buying wine at £6.25 a bottle is probably nicer stuff anyway.

This offer on the Lidl app I have this and know to spend £25

The increased incorrect use of "may" as in "Please may you do this thing?" I audit consultant solicitors. Intelligent, experienced professionals but I've noticed more of them doing it.
