Lighthearted- What petty thing(s) bother you?

I have quite a specific example.

I have a family member who saves photos from my social media page, saves them and then posts them onto her own page. (Without permission.)

It has been driving me nuts, even though it’s so petty!

What about you?

People who can’t use apostrophes.
The words bespoke and iconic,

Vintageblueribbon · 30/03/2026 12:28

We have our friends dog while shes on holiday

He's a lovely dog, getting on a bit (aren't we all?) and is no trouble

Im the one who's fed him, walked him (in the rain),picked up his poo given him a bath, washed his harness, bought him some treats, keep getting up to let him into/back in from the garden and played with him

Dp is at work all week so the slack has been left to me-thats fair enough

However,this dog worships him

The second dp walks through the door tonight, the dog will forget i exist, will be soooooo pleased to see him and will sit all evening by dps feet fluttering his eyelashes and begging for another forelock to tug

He even sleeps on the floor next to dp and follows him to the loo in the night (he doesn't even wake up if I get up)

Tomorrow (and the rest of the week) ill do at a push until dp walks through the door, rinse and repeat until he goes home again

It really pisses me off (lighthearted)

Road works when as a pedestrian there's nowhere safe to cross

Oh wow!- yes to both you and Buscobel! We are overrun with roadworks round here, and the most annoying thing is that no one TELLS us where and when the roadworks will be,

BatsInHibernation · 30/03/2026 12:02

LoyalMember · 29/03/2026 18:48

It's not. It makes you sound like a child. Why on Earth wouldn't you say you were going to the bathroom or toilet?

I'd say I was going to the loo

But I wouldn't say 'mind that dog toilet/bathroom/turd/crap/doodoos/feaces'
I'd say 'mind that dog poo'

RedFlagsAllOver · 30/03/2026 11:42

When people use the word brought when they mean bought. Or pronounce the word bald bold. If someone loses their hair they're bald.. not bold

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 30/03/2026 11:37

Someone asking me what to do about their hair. When presented with their options - they refuse to do the bleeding obvious which is speak to a hairdresser as I’m not one.

CoffeeCantata · 30/03/2026 11:31

Oooh, a million things, OP! Thanks for the thread.

Public clocks which don't work or show the right time - get rid or repair.
Lots of crappy, flappy, torn and scrawled notices hanging off walls and noticeboards - anywhere really, but especially in hospitals. It is SO depressing, when you're already stressed and worried. Calm spaces, please!
People who stop/stand in doorways and entrances - everywhere but especially on the tube. Move aside!
People in pairs or groups who somehow think they have a right to the whole pavement/footpath and don't move into single file when they meet others.
Retail staff who ask if you need a bag when you have clearly brought 4 of your own with you.
The tendency for older people to think they have to wear beige...go for it and wear bright colours!!!
People who strip to vest tops and shorts the minute the sun appears, despite it being actually very cold (none of my business, sure - but you asked what irritates us!!)
People with drives the size of a football pitch who park on the road.

And a million more...

Ah,the relief of getting that off my chest.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/03/2026 10:59

People who say Pacific instead of specific.

TigerRag · 30/03/2026 10:06

Road works when as a pedestrian there's nowhere safe to cross

Buscobel · 30/03/2026 09:48

Temporary traffic lights that remain long after the work has finished, because nobody can coordinate timescales to remove them promptly.

Road works that mean every route out of where you live is affected. Just do some joined up thinking and plan a rolling programme.

Road works where no one is actually working. Can you tell we’re suffering round here.

DelphiniumBlue · 30/03/2026 09:40

Voice mail on WhatsApp. One member of family does this because she can’t be arsed to type, or maybe she’s multitasking, but she’s leaving her thoughts, I can’t just play it in public, so have to wait till I’m alone, remember to play it and then respond. Why can’t she text??

HatStickBoots · 30/03/2026 09:19

I can relate to a lot of the things people have already mentioned and am struggling to think of anything new…..
I don’t like the continuing trend for 3/4 length sleeves. I will see a lovely shirt or blouse and then discover that the cuffs sit at an irritating point on my arm where they constantly fight with my elbow joint or just feel awkward and uncomfortable. Make them long or short please.
It is lovely when somebody else washes up after dinner but somehow their attention ends once the last item has been put in the drainer and I find a washing up bowl full of oily, tomato water and a garlicky sponge floating on top.

I quite like the idea of t shirts being sold saying things like Cleethorpes and Bognor and, I don't know, Stevenage.

I love this idea!

WestwardHo1 · 30/03/2026 08:59

Sentientbean · 27/03/2026 04:01

T-shirts in M&S, H&M, primark, etc etc etc, emblazoned with ‘San Francisco’, ‘Chicago’, ‘Florida’, ‘Harvard’, yes it’s a cold, grey, rainy day in little Britain, it’s pretty grim actually, but do I have any ambition or inclination to be in the US right now?, for the record, NONE whatsoever. Message to designers and manufacturers for UK markets, the dream, it’s over, STOP IT.

ToffeePennie · 30/03/2026 08:02

Oh, I thought of another one!
The wet/damp patch on a tshirt when you do anything stood at the kitchen sink! So annoying

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 30/03/2026 07:27

shouldicontactthisperson · 29/03/2026 22:23

I didn’t know that 🤭 oops

Then my work here is done. <bows, sweeps off hat>

Auburngal · 29/03/2026 22:34

One of my things I do is to go on property websites and do a random search for properties anywhere in the UK.

These things annoy me in property photos:
. TVs are on
. Laundry is on airers. This applies to both inside and outside
. Dirty plates in the sink

You know when the estate agents come round to take the photos in advance. Wait until their photographer goes then put the washing on.

People who don't know the difference between discreet and discrete.

Two separate words with very different meanings. Do NOT use them interchangeably.

Thank you.

Adults who've never learned to drive.

It was quite a common thing, probably still is with older couples, that the man drove the car. The wife didn't drive. Probably took a few lessons from 17-20, then never did the practical test.

Think of your friends and family who are/would have been 80+. You can think of those who the man only drove.

I think about a third of the female colleagues at my last job drove. That was all of them in the 17 years working there.

People who go shopping and meet someone they know and they stop dead and block the whole aisle with their trolleys while they have a chat.

Oh yes! From my experience working for a supermarket, it was ALWAYS in front of the milk, bananas and in the summer, berries. ie things that other customers need and for us to top up!

ToWhitToWhoo · 29/03/2026 20:25

People who are harsh toward non-drivers, and refuse to consider that some of us have genuine medical/ disability-related reasons.

Oh, and people who drive/continue to drive when they're not fit to do so, and thus endanger others.

My phone autocorrect keeps changing correctly spelled words to other words - like of to if, then to than, were to we're (and vice versa). It makes me want to throw my phone out of a window!
