Just heard this in live interview with Defence Secretary.
Apparently they can reach us in 4 hours.
Are they lying??

That's a whole 4 hours to shoot them down we should be able to manage that, they have hit more distant targets than the UK already so no doubt they could try.

Haven't heard what DefSec has said but anyone who claims it inevitably takes four hours for a ballistic missile to fly from Iran to the UK needs to go back to school and redo their Physics...

It's just about possible if Iran launched something in a very lofted, very inefficient trajectory but there would be no point.

I wonder what the DefSec really meant?

Two days ago The Times put up a video of the IDF making the statement ( it’s still available to watch )

Heres a piece from the Independent

Iran has developed long-range missiles capable of reaching major European cities, Israel has warned, after the targeting of the UK-US base on Diego Garcia.
Iran took aim at the military base on the Chagos Islands before the UK government gave the US permission to strike missile sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, but it is not clear exactly when the two intermediate-range ballistic missiles were fired.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said it was the first time Tehran had launched a long-range missile since the start of the war, and showed it is now capable of reaching cities such as London, Paris or Berlin.
“We have been saying it: the Iranian terrorist regime poses a global threat,” the IDF said in a statement.’

Not what you said it was.

ANway, Israel has the best intellgience on Iran of any country around. Mainly because it's a regime hated by its own people so not hard to recruit spies and agents.

Israel is getting increasingly desperate and making up all sorts. I would consider anything coming out of there a lie.

Iran is looking like the reasonable and responsible one thanks to them.

The IRGC looks reasonable?

Don't see it. Is it a "trust me, it's IDF" kinda situation?

We’re assisting the US, from the Iranian pov, at any rate, however this Government presents it.

I don't like to break this to you but Iran hated you before this as well. (The regime, not the lovely people)

It depends where they are and the trajectory. Not just a matter of time. It's 1,000 km from Iran to Israel for example.

The commentators said that when Iran fired at the Chagos Islands that's further from Iran than the UK and Europe. Hopefully we have good air defences.

Sorry to let you know this but you don't.
Doesn't matter, UK is a big place and the missiles shouldn't cause TOO much damage. Maybe London will be a bit more of a mess.

But why though? We don't love Donald trump. His actions aren't our fault?

@balabusta

That map or versions thereof have done the rounds for several days with no solid indication the actual originator is the IDF...

Even if it was if anyone wants half decent analysis it's here, it's from the BBC with major input from at least one analyst from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI).

Neither organisation is known for being a mouth piece for either Israel or the IDF.

Oh no, you might let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory!!!

We’ve been told for the past few years that Russia is breaking international laws by attacking Ukraine so if we are to believe that I think it’s fair to say that America and Israel are doing exactly the same thing. Hopefully both countries will face the same sanctions as Russia as well.

Ukraine wasn't threatening to destroy Russia. Big difference.

Why is it illegal? What makes war legal?

A range of Iranian ballistic missiles the government displayed in August 2023

Could Iranian missiles reach London and Paris?

Some experts say Iran may be able to launch missiles to hit London, but they would likely be shot down long before arriving and the risk is low.

Well, not if you ask Iranians. But you do you.

You could try asking Craig and Lindsay Foreman their opinion if you can get hold of them.

In short, if it's (a) in (genuine) self defence and/or (b) authorised by a UN resolution.

Yes, it's (a)
Iran has openly declared its intent to destroy Israel and has been operating to achieve that aim.

Namingbaba · 26/03/2026 14:33

It is the WMD argument and it’s tired, old and unconvincing. I don’t care if they do as I don’t believe they’re a threat to us. It’s just a tactic to get Europe involved. Thankfully few people are buying it.

Or we could just look at the reality of the situation and all carry on with our lives.

Indeed. Whatever reality is, of course …

There is international law on wars, designed to stop them occurring. Israel can't just decide to bomb Iran, hence illegal

Actually Iran attacking Israel through Hezbollah and Houthis is causus beli so entirely legal.
Hezbollah and Houthis attacking Israel therefore entirely illegal.
Also, Iran has already declared war on Israel and stated openly that it is operating to destroy the country and has a countdown clock to its destruction in the middle of Tehran. Israel believes them.
