Just heard this in live interview with Defence Secretary.
Apparently they can reach us in 4 hours.
Are they lying??

Nope. Even the attacks of iranian funded and controlled houthis and hezbollah on israel would be causus beli. Let alone the existential threat Iran poses to israel, its stated aim is to destroy the country.
You don't get to say youre going to wipe a country off the map and then get surprised when said country stops you getting the means to do so. Its self defence.

That the war is illegal is the prevailing consensus among international lawyers across the world. Look up the blog posts on the European Journal of International Law website, if you like. I get that you don't like it or agree, but don't distort the law to establish your point. Your point is political not legal.

No they wouldn't. They don't justify an invasion.

Why don't you just post 'we don't care about international law' and be done with it? it would save a lot of back and fore.

Isn’t it strange that I have not actually ever said what I think of IRGC but you seem to be determined to get me to say something-why is that? What do you need from me to make your arguments work?

No answer. I’d say it’s strange but it’s not surprising.

IncessantNameChanger · 26/03/2026 17:10

I was reading last week that yes in theory they can (Iran) but it needs a smaller war head and less accurate over that distance. Look it up on the BBC I think it was.

Lots of people could bomb us. That's just a unpleasant truth.

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 17:09

EasternStandard · 26/03/2026 17:07

Do you also think the IRGC treat their own people well?

No, you thought wrong. Hamas was and is a serious threat to israel and its civilians as shown by 7/10. But that's not exostential. I mean, they gave it their best genocidal shot but were not strong enough.
Same for Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria.

You seem to be consuming a lot of propaganda, you should consider expanding your sources.

Of course I am, if it’s not Israel-approved it’s propaganda isn’t it?

EasternStandard · 26/03/2026 17:07

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 17:05

Of course it is. Let me guess: another “existential threat”?

It is illegal because their use of force is a violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and customary international law, both of which the US and Israel are bound by. Use of force in self defence is available for tightly defined reasons. A war started by countries who can't even articulate a clear (unchanging) reason for it, does not fit within the 'self defence' exception to the prohibition on the use of force. Many of the actions amount to war crimes (targeting civilans, children's schools, power plants) under the Geneva Conventions.

This is the system put in place after the second world war to "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and.." (UN Charter).

The IRGC won’t return any of this support you’re giving them. The U.K. is still their target.

I think some of these useful idiots think the irgc actually care about Palestinians.

And so begin the personal attacks. It’s a simple playbook isn’t it?

Laughing at the stupidity of saying war is illegal becuase it is 🤣

I have noticed that when there's no substance to the actual argument, it does tend to move on to faux outrage at style.

You're not the thread police. People can post what they want.

The main destabilising factor in the region is Israel and the US' warmongering.

Approaching 100000 people dead in Gaza. Mostly women and children. (source: https://www.bmj.com/content/392/bmj.s239). the single worst atrocity to have happened in my lifetime

Edited

If gaza is the worst atrocity in your lifetime, you must be very young. And very telling too that on a thread about iranian missiles reaching the uk, you're so desperate to bring to back to gaza.

We could also look at the Iranian role in 7/10 and precipitating the gaza crisis to stop stabilisation in the region and prevent normalisation of ties between israel and Saudi but that would probably be a bit too uncomfortable

AStonedRose · 26/03/2026 17:00

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 16:56

Oh wow. “Bash the US and Israel”? Really? God how many bootlickers do they need?

We're not bashing them. We're horrified and outraged by what they have done, while purporting to be our allies, with our government's support, using weapons we've supplied them.

Hamas, Hezbollah etc. are nutters too. We should be aiming to be better than them. We're failing horribly at the moment.

Yeah make sure the left hand isn’t concerned with what the right hand is doing. Usual tactic.

This thread is about the threat of Iran on the UK. There’s plenty of other threads on Gaza.

So you just want to bash the US and Israel without thinking about what Iran has done and intended to do because then you'd be a puppet.
This is just weird.
Have you ever thought about why there is conflict between iran and israel? Or would that be too difficult?

And your posts dismiss the torture, brutality and oppression that Israel consistently demonstrates towards its neighbours.

Your posts ignore the torture, brutality and oppression by the IRGC on their own people. And the threat to the UK should they get the right weapons, they won’t return the favour of your support.

People who care about Gaza don’t have to pretend the Iranian people are not being murdered and oppressed by their own gov.

Because that’s not why Israel and the US initiated this “war”. I won’t be the puppet of any regime I’m afraid.

Ah yes we're all just imagining it. Let's follow starmer's very weak approach of sticking our heads firmly in the sand! That'll do it!

Saying “No we won’t follow you into this war” is not sticking his head in the sand - it’s saying no to bullies and tyrants.

BelBridge · 26/03/2026 16:52

balabusta · 26/03/2026 16:47

That doesn't even make any sense.
And, no, only Iran poses an existential threat to israel. It has stated its aims very clearly. They have taken steps to implement tbem. Why on earth would Israel not believe them.
It's not like Jews haven't learnt from history that if someone says they want to wipe you out, believe them.

But I thought Hamas posed an “existential threat”? And Lebanon. Syria. The UN etc etc. There just seem to be a lot of “existential threats” floating about these days.
