Dh sulking after being away

Dh has been away for a couple of days with work. Left sunday lunchtime and back today about 16:00 so just over 48 hours away. And is now sulking that we haven't all made a massive fuss about him being home

For context there is me and 2 kids at home (9 and 5) i WFH on a tuesday and had just got back from school run (agreed I take a later lunch break on WFH days) and was just jumping on a call as DH came back

Kids were up playing in their bedrooms and didn't hear DH walk in

We then had to leave for a sporting activity we do on a Tuesday about 30 minutes after he walked in so it was all a mad rush and he is now in a strop saying we all should have made more of an effort to welcome him home

I've also had to feed the pets, sort the washing, lunches for tomorrow and finish off some work while hes sulking

He sounds horrible. No excuses for shouting at your eldest. I hope he’s apologised to your kid, it was a wild and inappropriate overreaction.

LessDramaMoreLiving · 24/03/2026 22:28

Surely he knows the Tues routine, why would today be any different? He should have thanked you for having held the fort on your own and saying how lovely it was to hear the kids playing nicely before dishing out the presents he brought back for everyone.

Let him sulk. Nob head. Enjoy the peace.

Evaka · 24/03/2026 22:24

He sounds deranged. Why's he screaming at your small child?

So to clarify...

I did come out of the space I WFH in for a minute before joining the call I needed to be in, gave him a quick hug, said I needed to be on a call, kids were upstairs (actually playing nicely for once!) I'll be out in half an hour to get ready to go to activity, which we all go to

He then proceeded to shout and scream at our eldest as they didn't come down at all until told to. Youngest had come down looking for a toy and seen him. Eldest has been upset all night as it was a proper shouting (i wasn't in the room but heard it from the where I work)

But apparently too difficult for him to go upstairs and tell them hes home

So he gets verbally abusive with your kid when you all don't bow and scrape enough for the master.

I wouldn't miss that screaming abusive prick either. I'd be getting my ducks lined up.

portvfs · 24/03/2026 22:17

The world does not revolve around him.

Forestgreenblue · 24/03/2026 22:16

3 days away for work last week OP and I walked in, popped a wash on AND had no tea waiting for me after a 6 hour drive home walking in at 8.30pm

It’s a wonder I haven’t moved out and abandoned the lot of them!!!

Kids also barely batted an eyelid. “Oh you’re home Mum!”

Not bothered in the slightest to be honest - was ace having a few days away!!!!! Sod them all - I’ve had 3 days not cooking or cleaning and having actual nice restaurant meals paid for by work plus Netflix of my choice back in my room. Loved it!! Roll on 3 months when I’ve 3 more nights away

You absolute witch, should at very least have got balloon arches, brass band and cheerleaders to welcome the hero home. Ticker tape would have been a bare minimum x bless him 🤦‍♀️

Mariachi band at the very least. Plus a bank holiday

TheAutumnCrow · 24/03/2026 22:14

A 9 year old? Your husband is behaving horribly. I doubt I’d be so calm about it tbh.

What a massive baby.

Randomlygeneratedname · 24/03/2026 22:00

LOL! 48 hours away and expects a spectacle when he gets home? Im a student midwife, if im doing 3 nights mid week I dont see any of my family at all for 4 days. I will start demanding banners at our reunion.

😬

He’s been a bit of a twat, hasn’t he?

Ah the King has arrived home and requires his loyal subjects to fall at his feet… Twat.

This did make me laugh!

Did he expect you all to be stood waiting to kiss his feet? What an idiot.

Give him a BJ tonight and he'll be all mended 😉

We don't reward children for bad behaviour 😁

BuryAllYourSecretsInMySkin · 24/03/2026 21:58

I'm sure you could have made the time to make a home made banner and stick a few balloons up for his return.

It's not like you were running the whole house plus working while he was away or anything.

NormasArse · 24/03/2026 21:58

AmberSpy · 24/03/2026 21:56

Why reward his shitty behaviour?

Pretty sure that was sarcasm.

Happyjoe · 24/03/2026 21:57

I'd be tempted to buy a welcome home banner for the next time he's away, just to take the mickey..

NormasArse · 24/03/2026 21:57

Youspurnme · 24/03/2026 21:35

Maybe he should be considering why he wasn’t missed.

Oooh 😬😂

shellyleppard · 24/03/2026 21:56

What was he expecting......a brass band and a big parade??? Silly man

Hail the return of the High and mighty one
We kneel before thee
O needy prick.

mindutopia · 24/03/2026 21:54

If I’d been away and I came home and Dh ran out the door and left me with a nice quiet house to chill for the evening after travelling, with no housework to do or dinner to cook for everyone, I’d be thrilled! I’d be grateful to go unnoticed and relax for a few hours.

It doesnt harm to show him a bit of affection surely?

Well she didn't kick him in the nuts and tell him to fuck off back to wherever he came from did she?

There's always one on every single thread 🙄
