To think Labour is not the party of the working people.

I voted for Labour as I believed their election pledge of being a party for the working people but genuinely I can’t think of one thing, since they’ve been in power, that they’ve done to help me (a single working mother on around £42k a year)! I get zero help from UC, these mystical breakfast clubs don’t exist, people aren’t employing people due to their ridiculous NI implications, they aren’t building affordable housing, energy prices are insanely high and all they talk about is grants (which won’t affect me as I live in a flat)! Genuinely I can’t think of one thing that they’ve done to help working people in the middle. Why are Labour sticking their heads in the sand? Why do they refuse to help the squeezed working class? They are stopping this economy from thriving - as
nobody can afford to spend anything extra (treats, holidays, meals out etc etc)!

Me too. The Labour Party is a party that protects after minorities from racism, my arse.

Though the Greens are even worse.

I think people have got used to a low tax economy. I’m ancient and when I started work the basic rate of income tax was 33% with 9% NI on top. Personally I’d rather have higher taxes and better public services but I appear to be in a minority. If only the UK had done what Norway did and used its North Sea oil revenue to create a sovereign wealth fund instead of frittering it away in tax cuts.

That’s pretty much what they have in most of europe. Far higher taxes on the lower earners than we dare have.

dinbin · 24/03/2026 20:55

Repeated emojis won’t even save you

Another bizarre retort? What on earth do I need saving from?!

dinbin · 24/03/2026 20:52

You’re in a minority still backing Labour though thankfully.

@EasternStandard what has upset you so much? You don’t have to agree with my posts but why are you accusing me of things that aren’t true? Are you just looking for an argument as opposed to reasonable debate?

I haven’t used laughing emojis so no. I answered your questions on growth, youth unemployment, voting. You haven’t upset anything, it’s a pretty good thread tbf.

Finally people can see Labour are not doing well.

Also, my other big bug bear with Labour is how they’re letting anti semitism flourish in the UK! It’s disgusting! Hate them for that!

But people don’t want to pay more tax, employers pay higher social security taxes, lower & middle earners pay more tax, etc. But housing costs here make it difficult to increase tax on those people.

Totally agree. I’ve lived in a high tax European country. The main difference was housing costs a minuscule amount compared to here so people had spare cash. Housing is such a massive issue here. And labour are doing little to help. Drastic policy changes are needed. Barely any building - residential or commercial property - is happening in London just now. It’s getting so much worse, not better.

I find this so confusing

Me too.

I'm on benefits and it's one of the reasons why I would never vote for Reform.

Kirbert2 · 24/03/2026 20:48

For me, it will be anyone but Reform.

I would even consider voting Tory tactically if it meant the possibility of keeping Reform out.

Same.

hairsparkles · 24/03/2026 20:52

You are right, they are not. Party of uni educated humanities graduates.

Stnam · 24/03/2026 20:51

ValidPistachio · 24/03/2026 18:02

The government is not to blame for the high energy prices.

We have the most expensive energy prices in the world apart from Ireland. The government is at least partly to blame for that.

dinbin · 24/03/2026 20:50

PandoraSocks · 24/03/2026 20:46

Well it's wasting its time as many people on benefits favour Reform.

I find this so confusing

😆

Early 2024 was good those policies were doing well to get growth

😆

You are obviously a Tory voter then

Well yeh I said I liked Kemi below, so well done on that one.

Then the parents need to WORK. Take different shifts and overtime if needed.

But the majority of people on benefits do work. Housing costs and wage stagnation are a big reason for increased costs.

They work to some extent - 16 hours
tylically in my experience and very conscious about going over that.

Maybe not to the same extent as Labour but they would still have been watered down.

You're very much in a minority as a net contributor and I would be interested in how you would do things if you were given the opportunity to decide exactly how that tax is spent.

Agree about Farage but I personally feel politically lost as none of the parties seem to appeal as anymore

Well for a start, I don’t have a problem with support going to people on low wages. I think that the wage discrepancy between the highest and lowest earners is much too large, and people in work should be supported.

However, I have a massive problem with people who don’t work. They shouldn’t be getting anything close to what a minimum wage worker would take home. Food vouchers would be better. I don’t care how many kids they have. I’m sick of labour gaslighting us about child poverty. That is not the fault or responsibility of the taxpayer. It is 100% on the parents who decided to keep on having kids that they can’t afford.

All Labour do is disincentivise people to work, and bleed everyone else dry in the process.

nam3c4ang3 · 24/03/2026 20:47

I mean, are you really that surprised? Labour have always been pretty shit - but even im surprised at HOW shit KS is (and hes still PM!!) - i dont think they have ever really been the party of the working class - they say it to get voters tho - tax the rich, give to the poor etc etc. Im a conservative voter - but even i was keen to see how this government would do - i must say, it lived up the disappointment and more 😂 - sad but true. Roll on the next election (if KS doesnt bottle it first!!)

Agreed. Labour has no support. But it needs to curry favour with someone and it needs to be a group it can pay off. Its chosen the public sector and people on benefits.

Well it's wasting its time as many people on benefits favour Reform.

ThatArtfulStork · 24/03/2026 20:46

Didn’t vote for them because it was obvious they were lying. They knew before they got elected they were going to increase taxes, lied to get the job. Raised taxes. Lied again and said it was a one off then raised them again. I hate the Daily Mail-esque benefits bashing but it was impossible not to see the last budget as a pay rise for those who don’t work for a living a total shafting of those that do to pay for it.

ACynicalDad · 24/03/2026 20:44

They are for trade unionists and those on welfare. Those that actually create wealth are seen as a magic money tree but never given the chance to flourish. Wish we'd kept Rishi.

dinbin · 24/03/2026 20:40

But in answer to your earlier question it’s your posts on this thread that indicate you’re a Labour supporter

What posts on this thread illustrate I am a labour supporter?

And tell me when we had good growth?

All of them.

Early 2024 was good those policies were doing well to get growth. Labour would love those figures.

It’s a shame mid way through the GE stumped them.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 24/03/2026 20:41

PandoraSocks · 24/03/2026 20:39

But why would Labour do that when data shows that is not where its core support lies?

Agreed. Labour has no support. But it needs to curry favour with someone and it needs to be a group it can pay off. Its chosen the public sector and people on benefits.
