What is wrong with MEN??!!!!

Obviously not all men but you get my point.

This is the second incident in two weeks. Driving to do school pick up and go down a road next to a school. The opposite side to me is blocked with parked cars, a van appears at the end of the road. The guy sees me driving down but rather than waiting for me to go by he drives up to the middle of the road and proceed to park his breaks and stare down at me with some smug entitled face. He then proceeds to flick his fingers at me, indicating for me to reverse back. I refused to move and kept repeating I had right of way. At this point I was shaking from anger and had my baby in the back screaming. Luckily a lovely (lady) pedestrian came along and said a few words to him. Lone behold he decided to reverse, not after wasting 5 minutes of my time. I hope he got his ego stroked, big man in his big van making a point.

What is it with these stuck up men thinking they own the roads?! Just because you have a willy doesn't make you exempt from following the right of way code.

Rant over.

It's been a hard week and this was the icing on the cake for me. Literally burst into tears and had to collect myself in the school car park before collecting DD. What the hell is wrong with some men?! Seriously, who raised them?!

Agree it is usually men but not always. There does seem to be lots of uncontrolled anger and general lack of decorum and manners coming from the general UK male species nowadays.

There is a general decline in manners and decorum amongst young people too. I've encountered countless young, people who get agressive when challenged about speeding etc but can't actually articulate their argument very well and end up looking like right numpties.

Sensiblesal · 23/03/2026 18:24

I’m just going to ignore the whole school parking cluster fuckery but well done on not backing down.

some fella drove the wrong way down a one way lane then expected me to back up. he looked like he was screaming at me & getting all worked up so I locked my doors turned the engine off & just sat there till he reversed.

ordinarily I would have just backed up for an easier life whilst throwing out cuss words and calling him a wanker.

you cried cos you released the adrenaline & actually standing up to men like that can be dangerous so I don’t recommend ‘sticking it to the man’ every day!!

He wouldn't do that to another man

They bloody do I was in the passenger seat of a car being driven by a man when a bloke pulled out of a side road almost hit the car in front of us then pulled out right in front of us stuck his two fingers up laughing

GenZstare · 23/03/2026 18:16

I totally get you Op, I've noticed entitled behaviour from men in my local swimming pool when we swim in lanes.
Sorry you've had a hard weekFlowers

FlyMeToTheSpoon · 23/03/2026 18:16

What is it about driving a van that makes men drive so aggressively and bully other road users? Is it because they are so high up?

I was driving to work, in a queue of stopped traffic on the main road, while other cars were waiting on a side street to turn onto the main road. I waved one car out in front of me from the side street, then moved forward. A man in a van also edged forward from the side street and forced himself onto the road in front of me, then started screaming out of his window that I was a selfish, stuck up bitch. He kept shouting at me for ages while we were stuck there in the traffic jam. Who even has the energy to be so angry at strangers at that time in the morning?

It really upset me, I hate men shouting at me (trauma). Set a horrible tone for the day.

ThatPearlkitty · 23/03/2026 18:14

im similar with some car drivers and im a cyclist, if i get there first etc they should stop and wait for me, but the amout of drivers that try to speed past is omg but id say its both female and male drivers

It’s lo and behold, not low and behold 🤷🏻‍♀️

DDivaStar · 23/03/2026 18:09

School mums are just as bad.

Today I think they changed the priority on mini roundabouts, 3 times someone didn't give way -2 middle aged men and a school mum.

@Notprying I was "shaking from anger" as I already had a rough day as I stated in my op (details that I won't get into) and this just topped me off. Let's not all act like we haven't had those days or moments!

It was just poor timing. Any other day and I would have remained clam and collected.

@Shade17 I was already on the road yes and I had right of way since my side of the road was clear and not his but rather than waiting he decided to block the road.

There is no such thing as right of way in this situation

Sannabay · 23/03/2026 18:00

Perhaps when we are confronted with entitled men about their entitled days, rather than trying to reason with them we should all just get a big willy and wave it about. Someone pitch it to Deborah Meden please.

lookeelikee · 23/03/2026 18:00

just for future reference. If a vehicle is coming towards you on your side of the road because of parked vehicles, then at a certain point they are deemed as established and have right of way, even though your side of the rod is clear.
I'm sure you are aware of this. It sounds like you had the right of way and he should have waited for you.

Oh god. I can’t be arsed to read about what another stupid man has done.
I don’t need to read it to answer your question “What’s wrong with men?”. Everything. Everything is wrong with them.
And I don’t even want to hear “it’s not all men” because it so nearly is that the good ones are statistically insignificant. And I’m married. And I love my DH. But sometimes him too.
I read recently that the group of women who are most jaded about men are happily married women because they know that the ubiquitous selfish, entitled, emotionally constipated excuses for men that we keep meeting are just being shit. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Grow the fuck up Kevin. You’re 42 and you brought your male loneliness epidemic on yourself.
I don’t think are lonely enough frankly.
And I think the real loneliness epidemic is actually married woman with shite husbands. There’s nothing lonelier than the silence in your home and the knowledge that nobody is on your side.
Sorry. I think I need a sherry.

I had this. 3 workmen in a van gesticulating and laughing at me. So I switched off my engine, got out my book and started to read, whilst sipping from my tea flask.
He reversed.

Love this 😂

MirrorMirror1247 · 23/03/2026 17:47

It's so annoying when people don't follow the rules of the road. Not so long ago I was at a mini roundabout, waiting for the driver to my right to go, because of course they have right of way. But the driver waved for me to go on. There was nothing else on the road. I have no idea why they did this.

Fuck me, if this is what you think you should try driving round my area of London.

You'll be in for a treat with all the road rage and willy waving.

I can only assume you haven't driven about much or you've just used a 'learned' Mumsnet reply without thinking.

Passaggressfedup · 23/03/2026 17:46

This happened to me this weekend. He was definitely in the wrong, knew it, and was waiting for me to reverse, assuming I would make a mess of it. Instead, I smiled at him, and immediately reversed with incredible skills, even I impressed myself 😂By the time he passed, he looked so sheepish, it was hilarious. The car behind me waited the whole time and then signal me to go before they did. It was actually quite satisfying. I think that's what I'll do if it happens again!
