Forks are female and knives are male

And spoons are female too.
Or is it just me?

I also think letters and numbers are gendered and some of them have quite specific personalities. Eg. Both G and H are older matriarchal women.

I am aware I am coming across as an absolute loon.

It‘s really fascinating reading this. I was wondering whether it might have helped with German genders, that I‘m terrible at, to actually visualise a fork as female, a spoon as neutral, and a knife as male. Though that wouldn’t work for abstract nouns.

Years ago I supported a child who had dyslexia and (undiagnosed) autism.
One day he said to me "everyone knows that M smells like black!"

The colours of the days of the week have a sort of gun metal finish to me. They have depth rather than a flat matt look. Words containing the letter R are liquid. The others are a bit dry.

That's really interesting, I see the days as colours too, but not with a specific finish!

For me Mondays and Wednesdays are dark blue, Tuesday is bright pink, Thursday is yellow and Friday is dark green. Saturdays and Sundays are variously yellow or bright pink.

I'm not entirely sure whether I have synaesthesia - I sometimes wonder if the above stems from something I saw when I started school that I've forgotten about - but I also experience a metallic taste in my mouth when I think about spiders, and certain people's faces visually evoke a certain smell for me (I know that sounds bonkers), so I think there's a fair chance my brain's not wired up in a conventional manner. 😄

LindaV · 24/03/2026 11:42

I definitely agree about the knives and forks genders and big spoons are older sisters with teaspoons being children.
I also see each letter in a different colour but it may be because I remember my alphabet book from when I was little

LindaV · 24/03/2026 11:35

I see the letters in different colours but I think it’s because I can remember my alphabet book when very young. I agree about the knives being men, forks women, big spoons being older sisters and teaspoons being small children.

Dogs are male & cats are female.

I see numbers (up to about 150) in a hierarchy

But I have aphantasia and don't see images................

Garfieldloveslasagne · 23/03/2026 20:12

Definitely odd numbers are male and even are female, same with dogs are male and cats are female. I am really pleased to know that I am not alone in this and that it has a name!

Elsvieta · 23/03/2026 19:37

You have a form of synaesthesia maybe? I have it mildly with sounds / shapes... I like it

TheLeadbetterLife · 23/03/2026 19:07

In Portuguese, knifes and spoons are feminine and forks are masculine.

Sounds about right.

Monday is blue! Tuesday's grey and Wednesday tooo... dances

Wednesday is orange, everyone knows that.

Well, cats are girls and dogs are boys, so…

I was about to say same thing 😆

The M3 is a greenish yellow shade. M4 is black. M1 is dark blue. M40 is dark green.
Thursday is so definitely brown.
Sunday smells of pepper.

New books, old books or newsprint?

No way. 4 is green.
2 is yellow because it's a cute yellow duck 🙂

The number 3 and the letter C both have the same vibes as the small angry girl from the Moomins.

I am enjoying how mental we all are.

Do you have synthesia? I have it diagnosed and days/letters/numbers have colours.
Monday as a whole is red, but M is orange-yellow, O is white, N is yellow, D is blue, A is red and Y is yellow. But Monday is red.

I might have, I have never really looked into it, I assumed that everyone thought the same!

I have just had a conversation with my Mum, DH and teenage son. Mum and husband are speechless, son has told me Wednesday is red. Dad just rang (wondering where Mum is) - I asked him what colour Monday is .. he said "23" ...😂

No, but Monday is pink.

Thursday and October are the same

Oh my goodness yes!!! October is definitely the "Thursday" of the calendar....

The13thFairy · 23/03/2026 09:14

I haven't got a soul, but I have a kind of 'essence' which is orange.

AlexRidersButt · 23/03/2026 08:30

You are wrong because knives are female, as are odd numbers and left. They have a clean, trustworthy feel, like fresh air and blue skies

Right, forks and even numbers are smug and not to be trusted, like stale air in an office block or plane.

Number 2 is the exception because it's prime so it's probably reliable.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 23/03/2026 08:24

CoheedandCambria · 22/03/2026 19:02

Wow, it's clearly blue and not just cos of Blue Monday. It just is.
Tuesday is yellow

No no no. 4 is yellow.

icantbelievet23432 · 23/03/2026 08:23

So the poll basically says 45% don't have it, and 55% do. Interesting! Though I suppose if you clicked on this link it's likely cos you relate.

(And 45% came here to say you're bonkers! 😂)
