to hate the way the chefs on Masterchef always say 'plate of food' instead of just 'food' or 'dish'?
I HATE IT.

You were annoyed, not "triggered" fgs. Use the term properly or not at all.

Ha! This entire thread is funny, but this is the funniest comment! I agree, btw! With all if you! Everyone is so annoying!

That doesn't half sound like an unfortunate soiling incident at the work Christmas do!

Exactly!

wishingonastar101 · 20/03/2026 12:11

on masterchef its "that is great cookery" what, no one says that... you mean "great cooking"

I thought of that too, after I had already posted. 'Cooking' is adequate and normal. Cookery, wtf is that nonsense.

DH still treasures the memory of a sale in a gentlemen's outfitters in his hometown many years ago advertised as a 'Pre-Xmas Trouser Event'.

Bread loaf. Yes, I know you can have a meat loaf or a Madeira loaf etc. but just say 'bread', for goodness sake.

Hapax · 20/03/2026 22:42

NoMoreLifts · 20/03/2026 20:41

Many years ago I listened, confused, to someone talking about 'a trans-seasonal trouser'.

JohnTheRevelator · 20/03/2026 22:34

Yes,this annoys me too. As does 'chocolate bar' rather than 'bar of chocolate' and 'bag of crisps' rather than 'packet of crisps'. I've no idea why it annoys me so much!

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/03/2026 22:31

Misunderstood.

Along the lines of "on tenderhooks" or "to all intensive purposes"?

Exactly

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/03/2026 22:31

Isittimeformynapyet · 20/03/2026 22:28

Yes, we know that.
I'm complaining about the way most people say it as if there's no comma there.

Misunderstood.

Isittimeformynapyet · 20/03/2026 22:28

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/03/2026 22:26

Well no, the commas are important as they are seperate words.

I did not do X in any way, shape or form.

Yes, we know that.

I've never heard the fashion part, but I hate that expression.

It's the way people say it...

There's no such thing as a wayshape.

Does anyone know why Jamie Oliver feels the need to salt 'from a height'
Is it a clever technique to garner a saltier flavour perhaps?

Has anyone answered this yet?

It's so the seasoning covers as wide an area as possible. If you do it lower down all the salt would fall in one small area.

He can bloody stop "going in with" ingredients though.

I get enraged every time someone says ‘in any way, shape, fashion or form’ as in ‘I did not steal that thing in any way, shape, fashion or form’. Just SHUT UP!

8 had to switch womans hour earlier because the guest kept saying ' if that makes sense?' after every sentence. So annoying

Oh my GOD! I had to do first aid training this week and, to keep paying attention, I did those little gate things every time the trainer said "does that make sense?"

One hundred and eleven times 😂

Mauro711 · 20/03/2026 21:28

Sounds like there would be a lot of alcohol running through my body if I did😀

Mauro711 · 20/03/2026 21:20

I’m not in the UK and haven’t watched it but in what context do they use running through? The only thing I can think of is if a flavour is running through something. Like if you add alcohol to something creamy.

Yes that’s it! Literally everything runs through dishes on Masterchef… you can play a drinking game with it if you want, that’s how much they say it 😂

Mauro711 · 20/03/2026 21:20

nonmerci99 · 20/03/2026 21:08

‘plate of food’ is nothing compared to ‘running through’ — actually drives me mad if I watch it!

Edited

Nope. Just looks vaguely more interesting on telly.

I wouldnt engage with that. Im legwear critical.

Haven't seen MS lately, but when it was John and Greg, John used to annoy me when he would say something like "you need to impress Greg and I".

Lots of other insects are considered as important as bees for various types of important food pollination (and do a large percentage of all pollinating). Bees are not the only pollinators.

But everyone hates the wasps - so if I marketed something as beneficial for bees and wasps no one would buy it! Pollinators catches all without explicitly naming the unpopular ones.

Or a "shoe" - just the one shoe please 🙄

Haha - I find when people say they pairing something with "a red lip" makes me laugh - I always wonder what colour they going for the other lip.
