To be relieved with the House of Lords decision?

InASubmarine · 19/03/2026 13:47

I have just seen on the news that the House of Lords have approved the bid to decriminalise abortion. I am so relieved. I can’t believe in a supposed modern society women are still subject to Victorian laws on their own body.

i wish they had gone one step further and enshrined a woman’s legal right to an abortion to help add protections if Nigel and his gang of loons get in and try to pull what they did in America.

But overall I see this as such a win for women everywhere and a welcome change that will remove fear from lots of lives!

Aibu to feel this way? It’s a scary world as a woman at the moment!

Help those kids, don't kill. Let's help them.

Well you've just demonstrated you do live in a bubble. Ask anyone who's ever needed a serious amount of help for anything and they'll tell you the truth: there is no help. Crumbs from the state is all, designed to keep people alive without any real consideration to the quality of that life or the lives of those surrounding them. "Let's help them" is a romantic notion nobody actually wants to pay for or volunteer for. People don't even want to listen to their bereaved friends talk about their grief for longer than a few weeks/months, if at all (plenty will ghost, either permanently or until they think the person is over it). Go read one of the many threads from the (often single, since the father has also done a runner from the situation) parent carer of a disabled child about how isolating it is.

If you genuinely feel that strongly about people being helped, you can start by donating 10% of your net salary to a charity that helps improve the lives of troubled/disabled etc people and you can personally volunteer and get involved in giving up some of your own downtime each week to help out a struggling parent or a disabled child or someone who's life is going down the wrong track and needs serious intervention to prevent disaster. No? Not willing to do that? No willing to pay that? Well, guess what? Neither is the rest of society. Which is why, whatever your problem, there's basically no help.

If a child is unwanted it's better off dead before it's even born than at the mercy of the state.

I think if anyone wants an abortion that is there choice, it use to be with in the 15 week mark.

I do not agree with it happing at 34 weeks.
My sister lost her baby at 34 week in an awfull car crash, at 34 weeks / 8 months is a baby a full baby.
She was a little girl now sleeping for ever.
I dont have kids but stuff like this just makes me sick.

What if someone is up set partner husband whatever walks out after a row or ends it with them, and they are 34 weeks, are they going to use it as a wepon revenge.
You dont want me i dont want your baby.

Its not an abortion at 34 weeks its a funeral, and i dont see any of these babies having a send off.
Its dissgusting disshonest sickening and anyone that has an abortion or suports it at that stage in pregnancy, something is very wrong with you.

If it were legal in the uk, nobody would have an abortion at 34 weeks for reasons other than extreme medical need. Already the number of abortions post 20 weeks is almost statistically irrelevant. The idea that women are choosing to abort that late rather than being forced into it is just simple nonsense.

Sorry this happened to you, and I am sorry you had to respond to such vile posts.

It's funny, the so-called "Pro-Lifer's" always seem to treat other humans like shit.

Anyway, the law is on our side, not theirs, so let them throw their tantrums.

Honestly, it's so far in the past I'm no longer traumatised. And I'll never stop responding to stupid pro-life shit with reasons why abortion is so important.

ETA: thank you though.

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/03/2026 00:10

I wonder how many "abortion is murder" posters are also on the "we need to cut the benefit bill/keep the two child cap" threads.

EvilNextDoor · 20/03/2026 00:09

Fucking hell the idiots are out in force tonight…

You'd hate to have me at the dinner table all you pro life lunatics…

I believe every woman has a choice, and if that choice is an abortion I fully support that

Checkthemeaning · 20/03/2026 00:08

Having an abortion was the BEST decision I ever made (young, no money, abusive rship, FAILED contraception before anyone jumps down my throat).

MY body, MY choice. I hope the folk on this thread shouting murder are all vegetarians too. After all….in your humble opinions…..a life is a life right?

Honestly…..some women!!!!!!!!!!!! Disgusting comments.

Ok. So am abortion is allowed if the woman was raped. Yay for past me. What if the dr didn't believe it was rape? My mum didn't. The police didn't.

And I wasn't 18. I was 15, might have been 14 actually. I can't remember for definite. I've blocked it out.

Those cases are the absolute minority.

When thinking of abortion think of driving drunk. You had a few many a got behind the wheel of a car and in an inebriated state, struck someone and killed them.

You have unprotected sex? Well guess what may happen?

it is 2026! If grown women and men can’t figure out that sex has the potential to create a baby then they shouldn’t be having sex. Saying “oh it was an accident” just doesn’t cut it for ripping a babies limbs apart and ending their chance at life.

Don’t want a baby? Don’t have sex. Simple

sorry but no. It is murder and should absolutely be outlawed unless in the most extreme circumstances.

Why are fully sentient women and girls dismissed as an 'absolute minority' whose lives should just be sacrificed, but abortions after viability should not be dismissed even though they are an 'absolute minority' and most abortions are at very early stages?
Nobody wants abortions, but sadly they are sometimes a necessity for the safety and wellbeing of women, girls and babies.

Hemsfa · 19/03/2026 22:27

Help those kids, don't kill. Let's help them.

But that's the problem. People are very quick to say abortion is wrong, but have no interest whatsoever in helping when that baby is actually born, whether that's providing financial aid, being part of the 'village', or adopting the baby because every time the mother looks at them, all she sees is the face of the man who raped her.

JadeSnake · 20/03/2026 00:02

Supperlite · 19/03/2026 21:52

A healthy foetus would be born and be a child if there is not the intervention to kill them.

I simply do not see how anyone can think that abortion isn’t murder.

YABU not to understand that people can have different opinions on the interface between the rights of the unborn and the rights of mothers, and anyone who doesn’t conform to your opinion is a “loon”. It’s not a very nuanced POV…

🙄 And if my grandmother had wheels…

I was raped by an ex boyfriend and my friend (a specially trained rape support officer in the Met) said that my chance of anyone believing me was virtually zero. I had obviously got rid of him immediately and she said that while she believed me, almost no one else would.

It is widely accepted that 70 to 90 percent of rapes are unreported. Of the ones that are, only about 4 to 5% end in conviction. So on the maths alone, a tiny minority of rape victims that find themselves pregnant as a result, would be eligible for a legal abortion.

And at what point could they abort? At the conviction of their rapist? It is currently taking up to two years. A pregnancy is nine months.

In whose interest is an unwanted baby being born? Having to bear a child you don't want is not a punishment for having sex.

The vast majority of abortions do not involve foetus's limbs being pulled apart.

You know rightly that doesn’t apply to rape. I was raped and if I had got pregnant I would have kept the baby (age 18)

the baby deserves a life. I categorically don’t have the right to end that life solely on the circumstance.

Also, sex and rape are not the same thing so don’t misquote me

Aka the "head in the sand" opinion.

Here in the real world, over 100,000 women die each year because they do not have access to safe abortion.

But fuck those people, eh?

you are being ridiculous. You know perfectly well there is a cut off and you can’t get abortions easily after 24 weeks

And this was the view of all those in America who agreed with Row vrs Wade being overturned.
Yet now they are finding out the hard way that to deny women the right to abortion also denies women the right to life saving treatment in the event that an abortion is necessary to save the life of the women. There have already been deaths of women since in States where abortion is illegal.
Many do not consider the whole consequences when they want to ban abortion.
