Neighbour has put their rubbish in my bin

Empty your bin onto the lawns of the two suspected offenders. However, be sure to do this at 11pm at night in your underwear whilst sporting a dark ages leper bell around your neck. Also remember to empty a jar of peanut butter (crunchy) into your pants before doing this. When your neighbours look through the window to see what is going on reach into your pants and scoop up a handful of said peanut butter and start slowly licking your fingers while smiling (channel your inner Private Pyle from Full Metal Jacket) at your neighbours. Then laugh manically and run down the street. They will stay clear of your bins after that.

I've only ever lived in areas where they will refuse to take your bins for any reason whatsoever. So we would always ask permission. And my elderly mother has actually found people inspecting the contents of her bin - it was after dark and they were right outside her door so she was really freaked out.

People living in areas where the council AREN'T horrible about bins, you'd be flabbergasted if you knew how many people end up with a bin lock to avoid this kind of thing!

I can't imagine being so relaxed about bins! It drives me nuts because it is basically under ending up in the same place. But individual councils just make life very difficult.

If the bins were already out to be collected (you say you take them all to the corner) your neighbour probably thought you were done with yours and seeing as they had another bag it wouldn't be an issue to pop in yours.
I would in future keep my bin wherever it is usually kept and only put out once I know there isn't any more I want to put in.

Pffft. Do update us when you get a fine for putting batteries, a dead dog and uranium in your black bin. Not to mention the fine for it being overweight!

It’s not really something to get arsy about.

If you’d read my follow up posts, you would have seen that I’ve said twice that my binmen will not empty a bin unless the top is completely closed - if it’s sticking up even by an inch, then they will leave it, so we would have rotting rubbish for up to a month. Now that we have fortnightly collections rather than weekly, our bin is always full to the top and usually has to be squashed down to get the lid fully closed. I wouldn’t be amused if some selfish twat stuck a bag in the top of my already full bin and it didn’t then get collected because the lid was not fully closed.

Surely just check the other bins and any that are emptier just pop your bag in there?

I can never understand possessiveness over wheelie bins, especially on bin emptying day. Life is too short!

Well why not put the " offending" rubbish in a different bin the to got your own extra rubbish in your own bin.

Why did you put your bin out when you still had rubbish in the house that needed to go in the bin?

Surely you empty all house bins and collect all rubbish first, then put it in your bin and then put your bin out, not put your bin out first and then cart your leftover rubbish from your house to the end of your cul de sac?

I think it is cheeky and annoying thing to do. However, I would let it go this time and observe if it happens again. If it happens again, if would bring it up.

Our council is strict about putting the right rubbish in the right bins and will refuse to empty them if they contain the wrong rubbish, or if they are over-full.

I came home from work one day to find that our bin hadn't been emptied, because some cheeky fucker had put their shit in it and the dustbin men had refused to empty it.

The chief bin officer at the council said they didn't empty our bin, because the lid wouldn't close properly and it had shit in it in that shouldn't be there.

We then had the disgusting job of removing the CF's shit and taking it down the dump just so we could continue using our bin until the next collection.

Household bins are not a public resource. Use your own fucking bins.

Really? And risk the bin men not collecting it and it sitting there or being ripped open abs rubbish blowing everywhere for a week. All for the sake of not wanting to give away empty bin space that you’re not using?

I have never know anywhere in the uk that charges by weight. You pay your council tax and get the bins collected. Does your dustcart have a weighing machine attached to it.

But if the bin lorry is halfway up the street why would you possibly care? As long as they’re not using your bin before you’ve had the chance to fill it 🤷‍♀️

We had a neighbour who dumped a dead dog in a communal street bin (our street is part big communal bins and some blocks have individual bins) so I would always be wary!

Surely if the bins were about to be collected, there were other things you could have done instead of taking your bag back inside for 2 weeks. This is such a non issue, I wouldn't have given it any thought.

I think you are getting a hard time from some here. Fwiw, I think its cheeky to use a neighbour's bin for your rubbish. Where i live, we have different bins for different rubbish so that could have an impact on whether a bin is emptied or not. We also have to pay a substantial amount for garden rubbish to be collected too. It would hack me of if others used my bin instead of getting their own sorted.
