to be appalled by Trump’s comments about learning disabilities?

I probably am being unreasonable since this is a president who starts illegal wars, supports genocide and protects pedophiles.
But today time he is also talking about the 20%+ of his beloved Americans who may have some kind of learning difficulty.

Where will it end? Who will be safe?

Whenever Trump insults someone else's intellect, remind yourself that he is a nasty blowhard who divides his waking hours between the golf-course and social media and is known to avoid reading the briefing documents his aides give him. Ironically for someone with severe dyslexia, the Governor of California apparently works hard with the material he's given no matter how difficult it is for him, because it's part of the job.

TheGrimSmile · 17/03/2026 22:28

He is just so vile and nasty. And Reform love him. Look at the comments they have made about kids with SEND and their threats to cut funding for this. I wish Trump and Farage would both just fuck off for good.

Its not really relevant and neither was your comment in the light of what the discussion is about. Its about how abhorrent the man is for insulting someone due to their needs.

People in this country get learning disability confused with learning difficulty often enough, even in my line of work where a large percentage of our service users have some degree of learning difficulty, so we're not so different to America

I dont know why you're mentioning whether you're a Trump supporter, I didnt say anything about that.

My comment was relevant to the poster who didn’t know or forgot that terminology differs in the US.

I know some in this country confuse learning disability and learning difficulty. Hence pp’s post. I was pointing out that terminology differs in the US because the pp thought that applied to the comment made by Trump.

I mentioned I am not a Trump supporter purely to highlight I don’t support the comments made, merely explaining he isn’t confused about terminology, because you said it doesn’t make any difference. Well, it does make a difference if others think Trump is confused terminology when he isn’t. He is just using the terms used in the US.

Did you miss the part where I said it didn’t excuse what was said and that I am not a Trump supporter or just ignore it?

YABU to listen to anything he says.

Im not sure this makes any difference at all. He was essentially insulting someone due to their needs. Could have been any needs.

It doesn’t excuse what was said, and I am no supporter of Trump, but the terminology used in the US differs to that used in the UK. In the US, learning disability is often used for things like dyslexia and intellectual disability often used for what we call learning disability.

I wouldn't take much notice of him as he doesn't seem to understand the difference between a learning disability and a learning difficulty
A learning disability is something that affects everything about the person. With if and can range from mild to profound and can have a huge impact on everyday life
Whereas a learning difficulty only impacts a person's ability to learn and is often sonething specific like Dyslexia and is not related to intelligence.

He’s working for Israel.

He's working for himself and nothing else

He is a reminder why democracy is not always a good thing.

I think he's just being played by Putin and just too stupid to realise.

This exactly. Putin knows Trump is vain enough and stupid enough to fall for flattery.

Though I reckon China are just quietly getting on with controlling ALL of us, and not making a big song and dance about it.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/03/2026 22:03

His nephew no longer talks to him because of what he allegedly said about nephew's disabled son. And he mocked a disabled veteran on camera then denied it. He's absolutely despicable.

Jc2001 · 17/03/2026 22:00

Dymaxion · 17/03/2026 21:54

Fairly sure he is working for Putin.

MigGirl · 17/03/2026 21:58

Well he's hardly very intelligent himself, as he suggested people drink bleach to kill could 19.

It does make you wonder about the average intelligent levels of the US population though as they voted for him. Or as my friend often say 'The stupid is real and they are allowed to vote'.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 17/03/2026 20:58

He’s a cunt. He’s always been a cunt. He’ll always be a cunt.

And it’s sickening how many people praise him for “saying what everyone else is thinking”.

100% agree. And the people who say that mean that he gives them permission to be cunts too.

Plus, he’s a paedophile, not just a paedophile supporter.

Jc2001 · 17/03/2026 21:54

I mean it's awful but I can't say I am at all suprised by anything he says.

Dymaxion · 17/03/2026 21:54

Fairly sure he is working for Putin.

twentyeightfishinthepond · 17/03/2026 21:52

I read an article in the guardian this week suggesting Trump is pulling the US to fascism more quickly than some of the Eastern European countries are managing. If you remember, Nazis were no fans of disabled people, gay people or people from other races. The only was to stop this us for Americans to stop him, and to be knowledgeable about the real politics of both his critics and likely supporters.

KermitTheToad · 17/03/2026 21:50

I am frankly appalled by everything that the orange one says. The blokes a moron.

landlordhell · 17/03/2026 21:50

He is an appalling person( not a man) so nothing he says surprises me. He’s the lowest of the low.

Sadcafe · 17/03/2026 21:47

Yes it’s inappropriate. This man says so many vile, inappropriate, disgusting things though that you end up not actually paying attention , we can only hope the next two and a half years passes quickly

The fact that he has no understanding but still insults, derides and belittles makes taking notice of him and the bile he spouts even more important in my mind.

Papercompany · 17/03/2026 21:41

I loathe him.... His comments about dyslexia are so incredibly ignorant. How can Americans stand by and let him represent them?
