Is this what I asked for??

Ok, so it actually is what I asked for, but bloody hell, use your common sense!

My child (7) decided he'd rather spend the day with my parents than me, fine. No problem with this, he probably spends 40% of his time there anyway, they have very few rules/boundaries, can't blame him.

So, knowing this, all I asked for for Mother's Day was a child-free day. Not a cleaning-free day, not a cooking-free day, just a day without children, just us.

And yet, up he rocked, with his son (17!!), to play his PlayStation (in our bedroom).

If I'm not spending Mother's Day with my own child, I sure as hell don't want to spend it with an almost-adult.

Just one day. That's all I asked for.

And now, because I mumbled something to myself (and he overheard), he's packed up and fucked off.

Give me all you've got, I've got my big girl pants on.

My son splits his time between my house, his dad's house and my parent's house. He was at my house yesterday, and decided that he wanted to spend today at my parent's house. Therefore, if my own child wasn't spending the day at mine, I don't want to be 'mothering' a nearly adult, either.

How would you be mothering him if he's upstairs playing on the Playstation with his dad?

But you said all you asked for was a child free day. What did you mean by that?

Maybe you should plan to do something with your son on Mother’s Day next year instead of inviting your boyfriend round.

Well this has taken a strange turn.

Where did 'inviting her boyfriend round' come into it? 😳

Eenameenadeeka · 15/03/2026 23:48

Yeah, unreasonable.
If you've only lived together 4 years, is it right that he's not your child's father? If thats the case, your partner owes you nothing for Mother's Day.
Odd that your child spends so much of his time with your parents instead of with you, I'd not be happy with that and if that's the case why wouldn't you want a day with him on Mother's Day?
Maybe the 17 year olds Mum wanted a day without her child too....

Why is your seven year old spending 40% of his time with your parents?

Auroraloves · 15/03/2026 23:45

I suppose the 17 year old isn’t a child, and not your child?

Is the 17 year olds mother around?

Which one fucked off?

Is this your husband or partner?

Does he normally have his son on a weekend/Sunday?

This is my partner. We have been living together for 4+ years. This was in addition to his arranged time with them. He has recently bought a new game on his PS that son wanted to play.

Not necessarily. He wanted to spend the day with my parents, I'm not going to force him to spend it with me.

I’m not sure I understand. For Mother’s Day you wanted a day without your child?
