MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

My adult son, no kidding, has ruined mine, by ensuring I don’t know whether he’s alive or dead somewhere in Europe, deciding to tell me he’s having a psychological breakdown, and then his phone is off.
He‘s got form.

I got up, stepped in cat sick. Cleaned it up, changed my socks. Stepped in another pile of sick. Four piles of sick in total, and a large hairball. Cat has excelled himself, the complete bastard.

I was thinking about getting a cat but you’ve changed my mind 😂

I bought myself a book and the dc hid it somewhere to give me today. I think they've lost it 🙄

Mother's Day has been restored in the Embroidered Gardener's household. They found my book and we're ordering chinese for dinner.

The cat scent marked in my face, some went in my mouth.
I win 🤣

I think you do… 🤮

i am in Canary Islands and forgot it was Mother’s Day. I was enjoying a lovely run through nearby woods and came across best outdoor market ever!! I will buy some accessories for my daughter’s wedding later this year. Texted my son can I get him and partner some designer t-shirts and he texted ‘lol mum it’s Mother’s Day I’m supposed to be getting you things’. I am having best Mother’s Day. Although on my own.

DS20 has been home from uni on reading week, he is going back today. He has just stomped out the house, swearing under his breath because I folded his laundry for him. Not said a word to me.

DS15 is upstairs studying for GCSEs. He at least said 'oh yes, its Mother's Day' when I told him my mother coming over later. Didn't actually express any wishes.

DH took me out for brunch but forgot to book a table, so we ended up in a greasy spoon. He is now out coaching other people's kids.

I feel loved.

Although as an afternoon sitting with a cup of tea and no one pestering me is much appreciated.

StickChildNumberTwo · 15/03/2026 15:26

My son wet the bed so my lie in turned into stripping sheets and putting a wash on.

Sympathies! My mother would be devastated as she loved Crunchies, but to be honest I don’t know another soul who does!

Me! I love Crunchies so send them all my way, please. 😄

Allseeingallknowing · 15/03/2026 15:03

Received a cream tea from my son, and chocs, flowers and books from my daughter. Lovely

WiseSheep · 15/03/2026 14:44

On the subject of disappointing gifts. I've started getting Julia Donaldson books (which is good) but DH chose the bloody Gruffalo. Anything but The Gruffalo.

DD and DH are cooking lunch for me and my mum plus various guests but DD appears to be wearing a top of mine that cost about £600.

I've been told not to worry...

@BootMaker I need to hear more about this top please!!! Links required too pls! (ps are you Trinny?)

Crunchies are the best

DD and DH are at Comic Con in Aberdeen and won't be home til early evening; there is a bag of stuff for me but DD told DS not to give it to me til she gets back.
About 20 minutes later she changed her mind but by that time we were nearly at church and I won't see DS tilearly evening now either as he had various plans.
So I'm on my own with chocolate, books and may enter some competitions if I feel like it later.
We don't have any grandparents any more and although I miss them, especially my mum, Mothers Day always ended up with me running around sorting stuff for them so it's nice not to have to do anything in a way.

I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card saying Love you Mum, but no idea which of my 4 children they are from. My money is on my youngest daughter. I've taken a photo of the flowers and put it in the family WhatsApp group, saying a general thank you. Knowing my sons, they will take credit 😉

The adult in me is happy she has flowers but seeing my brother in the background of the picture looking sooo smug does irk me a bit 😭

I'm 'lucky' that my brother is unutterably shit at this type of thing so won't have sent her anything so it's always either Dsis or I for the win.

GriseldaandMike · 15/03/2026 13:34

I'm 100s of miles away from Mum so always have to play flower roulette. I've learnt over the years that the nicer the images are before I press 'buy' the bigger the disappointment will be when mum sends me a picture of what she has received.

I got up at 6.45am on Mothers Day to take my eldest to the station (too far for a cab) so he can watch spurs lose as my husband has concussion so he's the one having a lie in ffs

I’m so sorry! If it’s any consolation, the only child of mine that is home ran the Liverpool half this morning which we went over to cheer him in, and now him and his dad are off to Anfield. I am the sole Tottenham fan here but I have crisps and wine 😂

feellikeanalien · 15/03/2026 13:48

I had a lovely bunch of flowers delivered which I thought was a bit strange as DD had already given me some. There was no indication who they were from. It was a Moonpig delivery. Turns out they were for the landlady of the pub which is practically next door. She had no idea who they were from either.😄

I’m sorry you went through this, it must have been very frightening , I would call the police and report an assault also report the assault to cross country. I don’t know what it is about football fans, but there seems to be a very high proportion of absolute wankers. I’m not saying all football fans are complete tossers but it seems all tossers are football fans.

I hope you manage to have some nice time this afternoon

Thank you so much for your kind words.

The BTP are involved now so I will have to give a statement and if that makes me a grass so be it. I'm just unsure if the man fell on me on purpose. The group by me were clearly looking for trouble. And as lady afterwards said to me afterwards that what he did was 'so unnecessary' and the legs together fall did seem contrived but he was also drunk.

I'm a 5' 2" lady in an individual seat, so I am an easy target I suppose.

Well I will just explain what happened to the police and let them figure it out!

Sailawaygirl · 15/03/2026 13:43

This is thread!

I arranged my own mothers day gift cause it was clear DH was forgetting. 3 new chickens for him to collect from a farm. All he had to do was turn up and phone the farmer. Well farmer is messaging me to say no ones turned up and DH is say he's there and has been calling and messaging farmer but no response. So the present I really wanted is happening ! And I'm trying not to get upset

Petrolitis · 15/03/2026 13:42

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 15/03/2026 12:45

Fuck me. I'd be complaining like hell after that. Bastards.

Cross Country could not have been less interested!

I only booked first class because it usually feels safer after a nasty incident with yet more drunk men on a York train. It was sooooo expensive.

British Transport Police are now involved as apparently there were so many complaints.

Ireolu · 15/03/2026 13:41

We lost my dad 4 yrs ago today so I thought today may be tricky. Its trickier than i thought. Feel sorry for my lot who have really made an effort. I'm just not in the mood.

Runningonteaandbiscuits · 15/03/2026 13:37

I know my husband has got a card as he made a big deal of DC writing it last night, however I haven’t received it yet and they seem to have completely forgotten it’s actually Mother’s day!

NoSourDough · 15/03/2026 13:35

DH and DD asked me what I wanted 2 weeks ago so I sent them an Amazon link, nice and simple and I’ve wanted item for so long.

Last week I mentioned excitement to DH about forthcoming pressie and said “do not buy me anything else, pressie is enough - excited!”.

This morning I receive a candle, Reed diffuser and an orchid (which will be dead in approx 2 weeks time). Where is aforementioned present?

DH recalls no such conversation. Complete surprise at this??

I am now Feeling a mix of guilt over the presents that were purchased and disappointment at again the man does not listen to me, ever.

DD Tok young to manage this one by herself.
