MOTHER'S DAY IS RUINED!

(Lighthearted... sort of). DD (4yo) proudly presented me with a box of Heroes and some flowers this morning that she chose yesterday. Lovely. Except.... THERE WAS ONLY ONE CRUNCHIE IN THE BOX. ONE. JUST ONE.

AIBU to think Cadburys are taking the mick?

Does anyone else want to share their lightheaded mother's day disappointments?

My Mother’s Day started at 12:30 am when DS (13) came down with norovirus. Plans cancelled but we got to spend it together and he was very sweet and apologised for ruining our day out. (I told him it’s not his fault, I’m not a monster)

Gotta roll with the punches in this motherhood lark!

Moonpig screwed up and both my Mum and MiL received two identical cards.

Is that an issue?

Woken up an hour earlier than usual by my very excited 6yo DD whispering ‘Happy mothers day’ in my ear, which scared the bejesus out of me!

😂

springvegetables · 15/03/2026 19:44

My husband left it to dd14. I have a bar of chocolate. No one has even bothered so much as to make me a cup of tea. I bought flowers for his mother, so he took them round with my children to 6 hours. So I saw pretty much no one all day. And they’re currently wondering why I’ve gone off to bed early.

Vintageblueribbon · 15/03/2026 19:32

Im going back many years, but one year my brothers (twins) went to make my mother a cup of coffee

She was still asleep when they crept downstairs, found her mug, filled the kettle with water and Instead of putting the coffee in the mug, they poured half the jar into the kettle!

Blew the kettle up and almost started a fire

The following year they went to make her toast and buttered the bread before sticking it into the toaster

Blew the toaster up (both now told as a funny story but at the time she hit the roof)

My own story is when I was a skint single mum,I accidentally taught the kids how to get the best value for money ?I didnt teach them this as such but kids notice things)

I wasn't fussed about mothers day but did mention that if they really wanted to buy me something,to buy it on the Monday as everything would be half price

One year I got a text from ds2 'mum,got you a prezzie,half price,home in 20'

'That's lovely son,thank you'

He walked in with a massive box of my fave chocolates

Only temptation had taken over on the way home and he'd eaten the lot on the walk back!

He proudly handed me the empty box!

I bought myself a book and the dc hid it somewhere to give me today. I think they've lost it 🙄

Literally lolled!!

Yes they are delighted with a draw!! Bloody ridiculous

It was as good as a win against Liverpool!!

Well I thought so anyway!

Look at him. Feigning innocence whilst dreaming of masculine aromas.

Definitely a passive aggressive move (without the passive bit). But he is a god and should be worshipped 😻

I got up at 6.45am on Mothers Day to take my eldest to the station (too far for a cab) so he can watch spurs lose as my husband has concussion so he's the one having a lie in ffs

Edited

GriseldaandMike, he’s a tabby. This was a calculated act with full malice and self-interest aforethought.

Saw DS and DIL for brunch and saw DD last weekend as she lives a few hours away so had a planned visit to them.

DH and I usually go out for a roast on Sunday somewhere local - nice pub or suchlike. Today we did not as it's Mother's Day - expensive, set menus etc. I ordered a McDonald's delivery - bit of a weird one but hey I fancied a burger and it's Mother's Day so I can do what I like! It's over a year since I had a Big Mac. I was drooling at the prospect.

It arrived! I took my first bite. It was a bloody chicken Big Mac. WTF. Two dry chicken patties should not be allowed to sit inside buns masquerading as a Big Mac. I hit the wrong button on the order. Never even knew a chicken Big Mac was a thing. Mother's Day is so ruined!

That's horrific. Thoughts and prayers.

Ahh, this thread has reminded me of the Mother's day when my youngest brother was about 4, he made my mum breakfast in bed which consisted of about an inch of butter on a slice of bread and a camping mug full of gin.

Breakfast of champions.

SmudgeButt · 15/03/2026 18:35

My mom pointed out a few years back (as none of us kids had realised) that every single mother's day for about 10 years was spent with us all going for a hike to a fishing spot where we would spend the day before heading home where mom would cook the fish we'd caught. This is after she'd made us breakfast before we went and packing a picnic for lunch.

Dad gutted the fish. Mom checked all our pockets later in the evening to ensure we hadn't brought home any salamanders.

Muddlingthroughtiredmum · 15/03/2026 18:33

My day started at 6am with DS 4 appearing with a potted plant he’d made at nursery; he proceeded to tip said plant in my direction, spilling soil all over me and the bed. DH headed downstairs to make coffee, no milk, no shops near us open till 10am. Tragic. I then discovered a 3ft vase on the dining table, DH had picked it up from B&Q whilst buying decking paint yesterday. Just google Vanda orchid B&Q to appreciate the size of this thing; I nearly put my back out tipping the water back out as it needs dry roots, no idea where it’s going to live or how I’m going to keep it alive. I kill anything green!

DS (7) woke me up at 6am as he was so excited to give me a picture he's drawn of me which genuinely looks like an homage to Edvard Munch's The Scream.

😂Brilliant- Bless him x

MyDH and his wife had our first grandchild last week so my Mothers Day will be hosting our whole clan for our first ever 4 generation family celebration. It will be a whole lot of work but I'm so happy!!

Interesting typo!! I assume you meant your DS! Congratulations 🎊

GinPin2 · 15/03/2026 18:06

My poor daughter has to search her car for my granddaughter's first tooth that came out today. Granddaughter proudly to it to 4 O'CLOCK church to show everyone and it fell out of its box as she clambered into the car !

Westroyd1 · 15/03/2026 18:05

I got the best gift today..a cameo message from James Buckley arranged by the eldest of my 3 boys. Was absolutely amazing and so funny x

Dancingintherain09 · 15/03/2026 17:59

I'm doing a 24 hrs shift (started at 8.30am, left the house at 7.45 am) so haven't seen my husband or kids and won't do until 5pm on Monday.

user1485851222 · 15/03/2026 17:53

Son has sent flowers, but still not delivered & I don't they will be now. He's annoyed as he arranged for them to be delivered yesterday. 😭

WonderfulSmith · 15/03/2026 17:45

I don’t have children but the cat woke me at 6.30 asking for breakfast so I guess that counts.
