AIBU to really not like hair bows on grown ups?

I don't mind little hair bows on small children, massively dislike Jojo bows though. My pet hate is those huge oversized bows that grown women wear. I never say anything in real life but why? A huge black or navy coloured bow perched at the back of your head? Nope from me. I know it's fashion but they really irritate me to be honest. Anyone else?

You got me, OP. I wear hair bows, like pretty much everything in my wardrobe, specifically to annoy other people, regardless of whether or not I like how it looks. Glad to hear it’s working.

My eyes are open, but apparently this just isn't a thing in my area.

Same. I don't think I've ever seen one.

I'm on my way to a gathering of women now so I'll report back!

I love hair bows and all other hair accessories, in fact I love accessories full stop.

One of my favourite things in life is seeing women (and men) wearing whatever the hell they like and expressing themselves without giving a fuck. Gives me a little smile every time ♥️

I quite like those floppy velvet bows. I really don't care for those elastic scrunchie-type headbands that people put on bald babies!

magicscares · 14/03/2026 16:10

I found this one - in Oxfam made from a recycled sari. Less Christmassy, though I do also like the velvet ones. They do scrunchies too incase this has sparked an interest for others ☺️

I hate bows on babies. I especially hate headbands on babies. They look ridiculous. A little clip to hold hair out of a toddlers eyes is lovely. Cute bows on young children, again lovely. Bows in adults hair, nah.

Jeschara · 14/03/2026 11:10

I don't like bows at all. I dont see why OP allows it to irritate her though. The answer is she does not have to wear them.

Disturbia81 · 14/03/2026 11:03

Why so judgemental OP? It usually comes from some kind of jealousy.

HavefunGomadLivingInTheCity · 14/03/2026 10:59

So what if you don’t like them, why is it any of your business ?

Sartre · 14/03/2026 10:59

I disagree and think they look quite classy on the right person.

ChopstickNovice · 14/03/2026 10:57

I like them. I also like those hairbands with a knot in the middle.

These types of posts remind me of playground bullies, picking on kids who choose to wear certain things, or look certain ways because the bully has unchallenged issues which are misdirected onto other children:

Jealousy
Low self-esteem
Miserable in life
Stuck up
Nasty
Spiteful

No healthy-minded person looks at another woman and becomes triggered by a hair bow.

I am 40 and have many large bows. I also enjoy dressing alternatively. I dress for what makes me happy. Imagine me looking at whatever you're wearing and making the following post:

"AIBU to be annoyed by the accessory this woman is wearing because everyone else also wears them?"

Like, what harm is it causing you? Does it directly effect you? Why does it make you feel so triggered?

I could turn around and say that women who don't wear accessories and just stick to jeans, tailored trousers, m&s top, little handbag and flats are quite bland&boring because they don't experiment with accessories. However, that isn't dping any good for the support and uplifting of women whom are comfortable in their own skin, doing their own thing.

People like you do not help a woman's cause, in this day and age when we should be supporting one another more than ever. Therefore, please tackle your mental health issues that are giving you unhealthy feelings and behaviours when seeing 'women wearing hair bows'. Women have been wearing hair bows for hundreds of years - Specifically during the high-society periods.

In a nutshell- Mind your own business, none of your concern, just look after yourself.

👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 louder for the people in the back!

Wear what you like. We’re all judged all the time regardless of what we wear. In my opinion bows look overly girlish but if you want to wear them as an adult woman and they make you happy carry on.
The readiness on here to be offended is hilarious.

I'm not offended in the slightest, so no readiness here. It just saddens me that out of all the things women are pitted against each other for, we find ourselves here arguing about bows.

Its genuinely sad and quite pathetic.

PartoftheBand · 14/03/2026 10:20

I don't think I've seen anyone wearing one since the 80s

Charlize43 · 14/03/2026 10:16

LeapyearLoser · 14/03/2026 10:02

Fergie started this back in the 80s

Along with toe sucking... and a lot of other grotesque shit.

Does anyone remember those padded headbands that were also around at that time? Horsey women used to wear them as substitute tiaras. Sloane Rangers and Hurray Henrys... those were the days. Lol

And then much later, the WOMAD look, when wrap around turbans with your hair poking out of the top were all the rage... Mama Africa.

Beautifulhaiku · 14/03/2026 10:16

HoppingPavlova · 14/03/2026 04:15

If you don’t like them, don’t wear them. Easy.

I’m not a fan, so I don’t wear them, but I couldn’t care what others do. If others like them, then they should wear them.

Strong agree. Whatever someone else is wearing or doing, as long as it’s not causing anyone else harm, then live and let live. Is there anything that you’d like to wear or do but feel like you shouldn’t due to your age/other reasons? I encourage you to try just doing it anyway and not giving a flying f what other people think. It’s very liberating.

How gross.

I wear bows and I'm most certainly all there.

Honestly why are some women so gross? Always putting each other down for one reason or another but now.. bows?

Get a fucking life

Fifthtimelucky · 14/03/2026 10:09

My 26 year old daughter sometimes wears a big bow. I think they look very dated because they remind me that I used to wear them in the 1980s! If I remember rightly they were frequently worn by Sarah Ferguson.

I loathe all headbands and bows on babies.

tutugogo · 14/03/2026 10:04

I must admit I’ve never seen anyone in real life wear this sort of thing past primary school age in the U.K. I’ve lived in multiple places. They were really popular when I lived stateside though, especially with the trad, godfearing types in the suburbs and boonies not so much in the cosmopolitan city we lived in. To eaches own

beadystar · 14/03/2026 10:01

Noticed a lot in Christmas party season. I don’t like them either. Something weirdly childish about them. Or the bows tied onto little bald babies, heaven forbid someone might assume they’re a boy or not care.

Mingey · 14/03/2026 10:01

I'm a bow wearer. I love them. I have a dresser drawer full.

Of course you're not unreasonable for disliking them. You can dislike anything you like.
