Ordering the same takeout each time

We very rarely have a takeaway and when we do it’s normally Chinese or occasionally pizza. Adult DD is a vegetarian and I have ibs so restricted what I can eat. But even so, I think when treating ourselves to a takeout each person should be able to have what they want.

we ordered Chinese tonight as DD has reached a goal in her mental health targets and felt she needed it acknowledging just a low key thing.

So she instantly said she wanted her normal - chow mien no bean sprouts, stir fried vegetables no sauce egg fried rice and spring rolls. I add my chicken balls in sweet and sour sauce, and we’re both happy we share this and she always has some left over noodles for supper !

now here’s the problem DH says that’s boring we always get the same, tonight he got special fried rice house special curry and lamb with spring onions and ginger. Fine that’s what he wants I really don’t see the problem.

but then when we’re eating I suggest he has some chicken (I would never eat them all) and he has some spring rolls, fine there’s plenty we’re all still happy. But the he starts, I should try what he ordered, I being boring, I point out I can’t eat his rice that’s why we get the egg fried, I can’t eat pork or prawns both of which are in his curry and I can’t eat onions so the lambs out. Would I like his meal - yes, can I eat it no/

he went on and on saying a ltltle wouldn’t hurt, but trust me - it will. And anyway, we’re happy with what we have, it’s what we like.

am I being unreasonable saying that whereas it’s nice to share a takeout, ultimately each person has their own wants and it’s really not an issure.

honestly it’s the same with pizza, a large mixed vegetables no onion extra pineapple DD and I are happy, he always ridicules it as boring whilst he tucks unto his large mixed meat spicy whatever it is he has then complains all night with indigestion.

it takes the joy out of the treat.

DD and I have learned to just let him get on with it, and we enjoy ourselves, but sometimes like tonight, I could just poke the chop stick somewhere!

sorry rant over

and just to say the chicken balls covered in sauce were amazing tonight.

you eat your shit order, I'll eat the tasty stuff I've ordered

Hear hear!💯

Lastofthesummerwines · 13/03/2026 22:36

Imagine spending £20 and waiting nearly an hour for your food to come and you don't like it! I would be gutted hence why I stick to what I know. If I know I like it I'm ordering that. Takeaways are expensive and I'm Fussy .

NotAnotherScarf · 13/03/2026 22:32

Wtf... anyone I'm close to knows I don't share food. No not ever..you eat your shit order, I'll eat the tasty stuff I've ordered. You do not take one of my chips, spring rolls what ever. You do not "pinch a chip", ask for a taste. No

If you're dumb enough to order stuff you don't like. Unlucky. I know what I like, I don't want to taste your shite...do one.

In other words...your DH is a cock

Ps I once went out for a meal with a colleague and a client...the colleague thought she couldn't order a dessert but have a bit of mine and asked for another spoon...I told her where I'd stick the spoon much to the clients shock...but hay that's my death my chocolate and you can stick your £35 million

This sounds insufferable. I have coeliac disease so have to be very careful with takeaway options but I often get the comments of “try some of mine” or “is that all you’re getting?” I genuinely wish I could eat all my favorite foods but I can’t and it is easier not to even have takeaway than to try and find trustworthy places for gluten free meals.

It would hugely piss me off if anyone judged what I ordered when I’m minding my own business eating my own takeaway and they’ve got what they wanted and ordered themselves to eat!

MrsHaroldWilson · 13/03/2026 22:15

It sounds as though your DH is purposely picking an argument. I would find that tedious at best. His behaviour is utterly pointless.

Is he like that in other aspects of your life? If this is the only thing of its kind that he does, then I suppose it could be put down as an annoying quirk to grin and bear. If he's dictatorial about how you live your life more generally, that's a concern.

Dontpretenditssuchamystery · 13/03/2026 22:15

Keep getting what you and DD like and tell him to pee off , you do what you enjoy

Ninerainbows · 13/03/2026 22:13

I don't ever share and I normally get one of about 3 things from each type of cuisine. There's nothing worse than sitting with a plate of curry that's too tomatoey or has been bulked up with a load of onion unexpectedly or just tastes of spice with no flavour and wishing I'd got what I wanted - even if that's a "boring" tikka masala.

murasaki · 13/03/2026 22:08

Dp and I always get what we each like. With some cuisines it overlaps, with others it doesn't. Never an issue though. I don't get why he's making a big deal of it.

TheChosenTwo · 13/03/2026 22:08

Dc and I always tend to choose the same things but Dh will normally try something new - happy to share as I’ll never eat everything I’ve chosen but I don’t want to try any of his. Luckily he doesn’t sulk about it - that would be incredibly tedious.
He also quite enjoys our predictability I think, certainly makes ordering easier!

Stigsmother · 13/03/2026 22:04

To be honest takeaways are expensive, and i am fussy, so I stick to what I know i will enjoy. Don't want to chuck £15 away on an experiment Wink

Eggybreadwithnuts · 13/03/2026 22:01

Tell him to but out 🍕🥡

Muckypig · 13/03/2026 22:00

You lost me at sharing a takeaway. I order what I want, and then I eat it. If I wanted what someone else had I would have ordered it.
