Just a general lighthearted one. Not aibu. Tell us something surprising, shocking, gripping or funny about someone you know personally , or an experience you had , or a famous person. Without giving anything away.
I've said this one before but....I know a very very well loved tv actor who is absolutely vile IRL. Im not going to out him but your jaw would drop if you knew..
Also I once lived in a place where a woman and her husband were upstanding members of the community, prominant locally, liked being respected, true blue types. They loved pronouncing on who was right and who was wrong in all situations. One day she told me conspiratorially and with great glee that they thought they'd been shafted financially by a local business bloke, so one night they put sugar in his petrol tank and slashed two of his tyres. I was young at the time and completely shocked.
Finally, in the C of E church in my old village where I grew up there were a bunch of smiley 'upstanding 'regular churchgoers who didnt like the new , slightly happy clappy vicar . He waa modern, and kind and seemed to care about the poorer people in the village . Rather like you'd imagine Jesus might have done. So the nice upatanding churchgoing regulars orchestrated a smear campaign against him and didn't stop until they'd made sure the vicar had had a breakdown and hadcto keave his post. It was.such a lovely, kindly village .🤣

I know my father has a secret son who is around 20 years old now. My grandma told me this few hours before she died. He had an affair, shortly after he left my mum for another woman, had more kids. His second wife has no clue about his son.

😮

Not too exciting but I know that my holier than thou, squeaky clean SIL had a fling with a much older married man years ago.
I like to remind myself of her dirty secret whenever she is perched on her moral high horse, looking down her nose at me or dishing out patronising advice or devaluing me and DH.
She would DIE if she knew that I know!!

you should let he know you know next time she's beings snooty with you! lol

If I knew her, she WOULD be sacked! Absolutely disgraceful behaviour!

That is gross misconduct and there will be a trail of whose file she’s looked at. I hope she does get caught.

Nugg · 15/03/2026 08:00

@Daygloboooh my god no way would I ever tell a soul! I just hate that it’s all in my head. These days, I actually say to people that say can I tell you something in confidence?….No I’d rather you didn’t 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

I know at least half a dozen people who have had or are having affairs. Why am I the kind of person people open up to!?

Because they know you arent the sort of person who'd go on Mumsnet and tell everybody😂

I know the sexual kink of an Australian A list actor because my MIL used to date him (before he was famous). Why she chose to impart this information to her son is beyond me...

Ooo errr.....now i want to know who and what.....but i know i also dont want to know😂

My aunt and uncle live very, very rurally, in a small farming community.
There, the local church is kind of the social hub of the community, even though the vast majority of the members are VERY low-church, almost non-believers.
But attending the services is about the only way to have any sort of social life.

The local residents pretty much manage the affairs of the church themselves. One "upstanding" local landowner was in charge of the finances. She stole over £10,000 from the church accounts.
Bizarrely, the community decided not to report it to the police, but deal with it themselves. And by "deal with it", they basically meant tut amongst themselves, gossip, and wag their fingers. And this woman is still swanning into regular church services with a smile on her face, being warmly welcomed! As far as I know, she's not paid it back.

They justify it that in these tiny, self-sufficient communities, it's just not worth it to fall out with your neighbours. Because when your tractor has burst a tire, or your barn is on fire, or you've had an accident, it's the neighbours who will get there first to help you.

I know. Different rules.

Well, that’s not unusual.

This isn’t new debt or due to col crisis she has been financially reckless and irresponsible all her adult life and she’s in her 50s now which is why dm has bailed her out lending her but never paid back tens of thousands numerous times over the years.

We are nc after she started helping herself to dm money and i refused to do an equity release on dm house not whatever lies she has told family friends

i believe she is currently selling her house not out of choice but because time has run out on her interest only mortgage and she was planning on paying it with inheritance and dm hasn’t passed away yet.

So.many ppl are in debt at the moment

There's so much hypocrisy with religious types isn't there?! Sad

Well, with those who arent in it for the right reasons, yes. In my village, when I was a child, I certainly noticed that there were those who were decent towards others....but there were also those who went to church because they wanted to be seen going to church. Even as a child, you can sense that sort of thing.

Because they were old school and he was modern. There was also something about how to deliver the service . It all got very nasty. Which is why i used the laughing emoji. The idea of apparently goodly churchgoing people being capable of such bullying and viciousneas.

I know that my brother secretly cross dresses.
I have no desire to tell anyone. Probably no one would believe me anyway.

I know a US actor who came over to our town for an event and while there send one of his team out to get drugs, the team member returned within the hour with a wide selection of drugs. I’ve lived in this town for over 30 years and wouldn’t have the first idea where to get drugs from. I still wish I asked them how do you do that, they all live in the US and had never visited this town before. Is there some kind of network you can tap into to? Not that I want to buy drugs, it just intrigues me how it works

Don't you just look for the shoes hanging off the telegraph wire...? 😂

Whosthetabbynow · 13/03/2026 16:46

Someone I’ve known since school kisses the arse of another old school friend. Won’t have a word said against her. Shame because the other old school friend feels only pity for her, slagged off her wedding etc.

A few years ago a family friend passed away and at the funeral my DM introduced his brother, Tom and his wife Pam to my StepF Bob. They all hit it off and are now close friends, Pam rings DM for chats a lot and she and Tom regularly visit DM and Bob who live abroad. All lovely, except I know that DM and Tom slept with each other regularly over a period of months when I was a child. DM was single at the time, but Tom was married to Pam. Poor Pam and Bob have no idea that DM and Tom had a fling.

Nofeckingway · 13/03/2026 16:25

I know a friend had an affair with another friend's husband . He was going to leave his wife for her . She panicked at that . She has got away with it because unfortunately the man got cancer and died . And he didn't make a confession. Nobody will ever tell the wife as we do not want to tarnish her memory as she was so distraught. I think of it every time I see these women especially in a group .
