AIBU to question why taxpayers should fund Ian Huntley’s cremation?

Can't Ian Huntleys mother who was at his bedside and in touch with him, pay for his cremation.
Why should the tax payer pay?
He's already cost the taxpayer loads.🤔😫

Her son murdered 2 innocent girls, he doesn't deserve a publicly funded cremation - I'm with his daughter, "flush him down the toilet".

There are laws which prevent that.

PassingStranger · 12/03/2026 23:31

That's why I said if she can pay?

She can't be forced to. She'll say have the basic one and that's it. She's not legally responsible for anything. Why make this thread anyway?

How would you flush him down the toilet, pre cremation, exactly?

Yes well that isn’t going to happen though. We bury/cremate our dead, whatever their crimes. Let’s just rejoice in the fact he’s no longer here.

Birdsongisangry · 12/03/2026 23:55

You said she should pay because she visited?
And that no other family were expected to because they didn't.

What else did you mean by that post, if I read it wrong?

But what does that actually mean? Presumably you realise that there are public health issues with not disposing of dead bodies appropriately?

Birdsongisangry · 12/03/2026 23:46

Op I truly hope you're not a parent, if you're somehow assuming that his mum visiting him in person equates to a parent sharing responsibility for his crimes. He was a murderer. She also carried him. She's said in in the past - after a previous attack - that if he hadn't lived, it would have been a blessing, as there would have been some closure. The child you had hopes and dreams for, and that's what he turned out to do.

She is not responsible for his crimes
She is not responsible for him in death
She is entitled to have complicated feelings

Stop making things up. I never said because she visits she was responsible . Weird, what you've read into it.

True, some poor person ends up doing it though.

It's just a body. It won't be giving off evil vibes.

What do you think should happen to the body?

Not as much as the victims families.
She still had her son.

I actually think her situation would be harder to bear. Imagine knowing that your own child had inflicted so much pain on so many.

NormasArse · 12/03/2026 23:19

Then that’s ok. But the state should not take over the family’s right to do that.

Who says they have? I'm sure no one is stopping her paying. But the state allowed him to be murdered in prison, the least they can do us post for a badd so hc cremstion.

i don't know why you think she is being stopped from Paying??

Work out how much it is going to cost each taxpayer, come back and tell us and we'll decide how important it is in the scheme of things.

My back of an envelope calculation is that it would cost each taxpayer approximately 0.0077pence each. Assuming that they pay out the full £3k, which they might not.

Poor funeral company.

Why? No-one forces them to take on this sort of job. Presumably some business is better than none.

Smarvellous · 12/03/2026 23:45

Yes this is a horrible thread. Why are you picking on his mother? Why no mention of his father or other relatives?

I was reading an article about his daughter and her mother (who he raped). They don't want him to have any ceremony at all, just to burn in hell. Should they be forced to contribute to dispose of his body OP?

Anewerforest · 12/03/2026 23:38

NormasArse · 12/03/2026 23:13

Her son was in prison for murder x2, why shouldn’t she?

Eh? Are mothers indefinitely responsible for everything their children do?

It’s business though. They’ll still get paid!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/03/2026 23:36

Well on the plus side, a couple of thou for a cremation is cheaper than keeping a roof over his head and feeding him for the next 30 years.

Funeral companies can say yes or no

Yes, I think it was a headache for the authorities to get rid of Ian Brady because funeral directors, councils etc refused to take anything to do with it

The gov will just do the absolute minimum cost wise to dispose the remains that's it.

Poor funeral company.
