Poor pets, just disposable to these Dubai residents

NototerrorismIntheUK · 12/03/2026 16:38

Reflection of Dubai ' non national residents'. I judge you.

Fleeing and dumping cats and dogs. So basically pets left to die. Another character flaw to add to the vain, awful types that live there. Fake Dubai, modern day slavery loving, artificial, grim, and no conscience so animals are also disposable. 😢

Thousands of pets being abandoned in Dubai as owners flee over Iran war

I am veru unclear about that "tax avoidance". No one avoided pyaing taxes on UK income isn't that right? They work abroad, get paid abroad, get taxed per local rules. What taxes do they owe UK?

Does that make every expat and immigrant everywhere "tax avoider" in their native country?

Quine0nline · 13/03/2026 08:28

What is life like for pet dogs in Iran?

Apparently some of the humans she knows are evil or bad people so she'd chose a chat

I'd trample over my BIL to get to my cat! I'd trample over him to get to someone else's cat!

My priority would be me, DH and my cat. If I could help any randoms without compromising us then I would, but I wouldn't put us at further risk.

There was a thread on here before where a few posters were saying they would save their cats over a baby or child in a house fire. They lack any kind of critical thinking skills.

the pandemic has increased the number of socially inept people who cannot cope with human company. They are proud of the fact they prefer dogs to humans. And love saying how they would save Fido over a human. I feel sorry faith them as they are clearly quite isolated people.

This post has made me laugh hysterically.

I have family in Dubai. Been there for decades on the golden visa. Are Indian nationals. The pet they have in Dubai was actually mistreated and left as abandoned in the UK.

Why all this Dubai bashing constantly?

In the World Happiness Report 2025, the UAE ranked 21st and the UK ranked 23rd. I still am mesmerised by how beautiful the Dubai marina is.

Laugh hysterically? What an odd reaction. Ae you always this easily amused?

RandomUsernameHere · 13/03/2026 05:09

It happens literally all the time in the UK.

PurpleAxe · 13/03/2026 04:52

It is a fucking war.

I love my cat, I do. But not even a skerrick of how much I love my children/my own life. I would leave her if I had to.

Hell, would eat her if I had to. We have an understanding, she would do the same.

We live in a bushfire area. In our plan, if she is present/easy to catch then into the car she goes. If not, a door is left open for her so she can get out of the house. Pets are not people.

Everyone coming back from Dubai should be charged all of the tax they evaded to be let back in. Otherwise fuck them, let them fucking deal with their choices.
Cunts.

😆😆😆😆😆
I needed that laugh!

MyOpalCat · 13/03/2026 00:02

I did hear an interview with an older american woman on radio 4 who went though their bad recent forest fires - and she held up resucers for her cat - they got her to leave but it was a close thing they nearly all got caught by fire with no escape.

Everyone was lying to her agreeing cat would be fine - she said later she knew really it was gone. In interview she was I don't know what they hell I was thinking - or how they had so much patience with me I nearly got us all killed it was that close.

So there are people out there who would priotise their and others safety for a pet .

I'd do my best for them but family would in end come first. I've no idea what it's like being out there at the minute so more relucant to judge.

Ah so you didn't know a thing about relocating pets from Dubai - you just decided to have a go at people with having no knowledge about it 🙄

So you’d chose your cat over a human child? Seriously?

There was a thread on here before where a few posters were saying they would save their cats over a baby or child in a house fire. They lack any kind of critical thinking skills.

SouthernNights59 · 12/03/2026 23:00

I would never leave my pets, not for anything. However OP you must be aware that people move on and abandon their pets in probably every country of the world - including the sainted UK. This is just another excuse for a Dubai bashing thread, and as no-one is forcing you to live there maybe just mind your own business?

TheKittenswithMittens · 12/03/2026 22:44

A lot of pets were slaughtered in the UK at the outbreak of WW2 in 1939. Known as the "British Pet Massacre".

@NototerrorismIntheUK im English but my mum was from Northern Ireland. My daddy was a soldier. We were home visiting my granny and me and her were up the street. The army evacuated us sharpish coz there was a bomb. We heard it bang as we ran away.

my granny had the hold of me so tight and she shifted like I’ve never seen before or since. And she literally flung herself around me when the bomb went off. I was about 7 so this would have been about 1975. I still remember the feeling of the bomb - not the noise but the feel.

I can assure you my granny would have killed the pope himself to get me to safety.

the dog wouldnt have even entered her head.

I can’t judge anyone who doesn’t take a pet in a life or death flee situation.

Edited

I was going to mention NI as that’s where I’m from. But you have explained it very well. I was caught up in quite a few bomb scares. Nobody knows how they would feel until it happens. It’s surreal and the instinct to get yourself and your family to safely is overwhelming. I can’t imagine too many people would be prioritising pets. Just because the attacks in Dubai are targeted doesn’t mean people aren’t utterly petrified. I remember hearing bombs go off miles away and the blood would feel like it was draining out of my body.

The UK government would not arrest and imprison you for taking a video of air strikes on your phone - go check out the news.

The UK government would arrest you for saying hurty words online and are now abolishing trial by jury for such offences which means you’d be twice as likely to be convicted.

Not to mention bringing in the official definition of Islamophobia which will curtail our free speech and prevent us from calling out the rape gangs and anti women behaviour.

Your adopted city is under attack, and your home government has finally got you a flight, but you can’t take your dog, what do you do?

I arrange for my dog somehow to be transported. I think the issue cited was that it cost a lot to take a pet, not that a pet couldn't be taken.

I'd find a pet sitter while I was sorting out an evacuation for my pet.

Usernamenotfound1 · 12/03/2026 21:20

Is it really an emergency situation in Dubai where people are having to ditch everything, clothes, belongings, pets, and get out any way they can?

are wee seeing the people on foot and in vehicles at the borders like we did with Ukraine? Is it that desperate?

please correct me if I’m wrong as I know not everything is shown in the media. But I was under the impression Dubai is still safe, it’s more people choosing to leave in case it escalates.

is it an emergency evacuation issue or simply that there are no planes out because of the airport closure. I get the impression they are leaving, if they can, on commuter flights. Are the flights banning animals? Cats and small dogs would go practically in hand luggage, in overhead bins or under seats.

if you have larger animals isn’t overground travel possible?

i just haven’t seen a situation where it seems to be ditch everything and run, take only what you can carry issues.

ZenNudist · 12/03/2026 21:15

Very unsympathetic thread. My colleague's family is in Dubai and the sounds of drones overhead and being shot down is becoming the norm. How would you like to move somewhere ostensibly peaceful (my friend's family comes from a much poorer country) then be under threat of drone attack? Its not all influencers and tax exiles.

Pistachiocake · 12/03/2026 20:54

Yes, it's awful. Of course, you'd want to get on the first plane you could if you needed to get your children out, but surely, in these circumstances, they could allow pets to come too? I think children should be prioritised, but there should be enough planes sent to include pets (a lot could fit on as hand luggage/shoved under seats, which is better than the alternative).
I wanted a dog for a long time, but due to FT work etc I didn't get one, because if I couldn't prioritise it and treat it as family, then I shouldn't have one.

persephonia · 12/03/2026 20:50

YellowFruitBowl · 12/03/2026 17:48

Animal welfare was never very high on the list of priorities in Dubai, tbh -- there used to be big culls of the large population of street strays before high-profile international events, and it wasn't wildly unusual for a certain type of person to keep a 'tame' cheetah or tiger cub chained up on their property.

Not even just strays.
Even free-range cats with collars can get caught up in the culls as they are quite indiscriminate at times.
There are a lot of free-range cats there though who don't officially belong to anyone (or who have been abandoned) and rather than the government spaying them or finding them homes they just do big sweeps and pick them all up and put them down.
While some people probably are very irresponsible getting pets knowing they will leave and may have to leave them behind, there are also people who didn't intend to get a cat but the cat decided it lived with them now. So I do have sympathy with those people because it's hard to prevent that happening and they probably are in a huge dilemma now.

Fleeing and dumping cats and dog

Well yeah. Because humans are more important than cats and dogs. What do you expect them to do, stay and risk getting bombed?

Pet people are nuts.

Hmmm, my cat or some random humans? I'd save him without a second thought. TBH I'd save him over a lot of humans that I know.
