Phoney supermarket farm 'Rosedene' - TESCO aarrrgh!!!!

I am fed up with the awful fruit that is from 'Rosedene Farm'. Absolutely atrocious. I've just has some of their blueberries (they were the only ones left on the shelves). Each one is either hard &sour, or fluffy mushy nonsense, they taste like coagulated fat. Their strawberries are awful too.

I haven't bought this brand for yrs because i tried their oranges before and they were equally awful, but yesterday i was desperate for blueberries with my morning yogurt. What a disappointment! I just looked this farm up and to my amazement discovered its a fictitious farm used to sell Tesco Value products!! Does everybody know this already and I'm just late to the party? apparently all the supermarkets are in on it too. Had i known they were 'Value' fruit, I'd never have bought them. There are many great 'value' products, but fruit is not one of them.

@Tonty , fruit keeps better in a fruit bowl than in the fridge but in a cool room.
Tomatoes, avocados, courgettes and peppers are fruit not veg.

I think tesco on the whole has really taken a nosedive in the last couple of years! Stock levels, quality of products have all been rubbish! I use ocado now, its only slightly more expensive but far better quality.

Yes i really noticed a huge difference in quality and taste when i switched from Tesco early last year, and the price is pretty much the same for my weekly shop. They also have a bigger range of stuff too.

Do you have any greengrocers or farm shops nearby? I used to buy my fresh fruit and veg from a local greengrocer when I lived in England about 10 yrs ago. They had lovely fresh stuff and house plants too.

Nobody will get fresh berries from a farm shop in the UK in March, though.

I would probably go to M&S instead

Oh yes M&S too!

The nearest fruit market is about 9 miles away but worth every penny once i get there. The way i think about stocking fruit will change. Out of season fruit - Frozen, In season fruit -fresh.

Sainsbury's has their own brands too.

Buy what you need from a greengrocer instead.

And get this: Dr Dre never had a doctorate until he received an honorary one in 2014!!! Which he had to pay $35M for. And I don’t think really counts on his CV in any event. Who knew?!

UniquePinkSwan · 07/03/2026 12:38

Tesco are a disgrace quite frankly. Some of their beef joints have potato starch in them. Why???

It's almost as if they're not in season.

🤣🤣

who'd have thought eh!

Yes. I knew this and never bought any of it, at one point Tesco had a lot of these type of fictitious brands, not sure if they still do?

They're not a fictitious brand. The brand exists.

IsaacBenabram · 07/03/2026 12:35

@thenightsky , The Creamfields cheese is worse than having no cheese in the house.

PauliesWalnuts · 07/03/2026 12:29

Try and get stuff from a market - they tend to buy a lot more seasonally.

@thenightsky if you are near a Lidl, their Parmesan is amazing and keeps for ages.

DisappointingAvocado · 07/03/2026 12:27

There won't be any farms in the UK in Feb/March with blueberries. They have probably been flown from South America or Morocco at the closest. Hence trying to claim multiple varieties of fruit from different long haul locations have all been grown on the same farm is obviously ludicrous.

If you really want to eat fresh blueberries in March you do have to pay quite a bit more for nice ones. I tend to avoid most soft fruit until April when the Spanish strawberries start appearing.

IsaacBenabram · 07/03/2026 12:26

@Tonty , the baked beans are bought, harvested and tinned in Stockwell

Exactly . Look at where stuff comes from and buy in season . If you must have blueberries buy frozen or dried when they are not in season .

tilypu · 07/03/2026 12:24

I've had some absolutely delicious rosedene strawberries. Yes, they were small but they were as good as the tesco branded ones.

They have never marketed oranges under the rosedene farm brand though. They are branded as suntrail farms.

Tonty · 07/03/2026 12:24

Thanks for your comments. A few of you have recommended frozen fruit, I do prefer fresh but I might try that next time. There are a few grocers nearby, one has nice fruit, the other tastes as bad as Rosedene.

Their Creamfields brand parmesan is awful too. Doesn't behave like parmesan when cooked and tastes of nothing.

I still vividly remember the Harris + Hoole malarkey

YerMotherWasAHamster · 07/03/2026 12:20

Yes, their fake farm brands are awful. I expect the names are because people felt a certain way about buying their blue and white striped value range.

BombayMixIsTheBestMix · 07/03/2026 12:19

Do you not look at it before you buy it and realise it’s pure shite?

Yes to the stock issue, always something ‘unavailable’ on my click and collect. Never used to be like this.
