For a nation to say they care about women and girl rights and liberation, and then to bomb a school wtf?!

@NotTerfNorCis the democracy of Israel is worse than the proscribed terror group Hamas? Really?

IrishSelkie · 04/03/2026 17:45

It does say it was one of the first round of strikes when the US /Israeli missiles were landing which was before the Iranians retaliated. The map title also says “US/Israel reported strikes”

Pretty clear to me

It’s pretty clear that it’s intended to lead you to that conclusion, relying as they are on a readership lacking in reading comprehension, but actually the wording is deliberately vague.

They are not stating for a fact that Israel or the US are responsible. If they did they would be wrong, as that isn’t something that has been verified.

IrishSelkie · 04/03/2026 17:45

InterIgnis · 04/03/2026 17:36

That isn’t what the article says. The map is showing reported strikes, which is not the same thing as ‘verified’.

This is what is explicitly said:

‘Almost 150 people were killed and at least 95 wounded in a strike on a girls’ school in Minab, in the southern Hormozgan province, according to state media. The attack was verified by Reuters. There is an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base in the same city.’

They’ve verified for a fact that the school was struck, not that it was America or Israel that did it.

I’m not defending the Iranian regime or Hamas or anyone else. But especially not Israel…

Ah, of course. ‘Especially Israel’.

‘All terrorist incidents are terrible…and now that cursory payment of lip service has been made, let me continue to give 99.9% of my energy to the ones I find most politically expedient to pay special attention to. Based on genuine grief, of course.’

Rinse and repeat.

In your opinion, not mine.

‘Bombing little innocent children and starving them and bombing hospitals.’

You mean like the Iranian Regime and their proxies do? Mmhmm.

Like I said, perhaps Hamas should ignore instruction from the IRCG and refrain from using civilians as human shields.

This. They actively want it to be the US.

No one wants it to be the US. I think it’s just that some of us remember that US is quite capable of and has struck civilian targets with missiles in the past. I certainly recall the times the US did it in the second Iraq and Afghanistan wars in the 2000s, then late last century, but still in living memory there is what the US did in the first Iraq war and in Vietnam too.

Why is the Guardian reporting it as fact that the strike was a US/ Israeli strike on the school?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/feb/28/us-israel-strikes-iran-tehran-response-visual-guide

That's the Guardian for you.

I used to have a subscription to them but cancelled it a while back as couldn't stomach their blatantly biased reporting any longer.

People say the Telegraph is biased - and it is - but nowhere near as bad as the Guardian imo which seems to have given up any pretence of neutrality.

@sabababa i don’t know why you are so keen to defend such disgusting evil. Hamas are bad but Israel are just as bad. What they did in Gaza was absolutely disgusting . Anyone standing up for them should be ashamed of themselves

Israel is much worse.

Foggybottomblues · 04/03/2026 06:21

No not Gaza but much.like Hamas the IRGC and Iranian State media are not reliable narrators. When they shot down the Ukraine Airways flight in 2020 killing 176 they denied it.

They didn’t deny it? Jan 8 shot down, Jan 11 Iran admits it and says it was mistaken for a hostile aircraft. It was during a period of heightened tensions.

It seems the idea that Iran was responsible is misinformation. Not untypical.

TheIceBear · 04/03/2026 17:35

InterIgnis · 04/03/2026 17:32

Lol, ‘just as bad’. No, no they are not. Perhaps, if concerned about civilian casualties (which they’re not), Hamas can stop using the civilian population as human shields.

‘Anyone standing up for them should be ashamed of themselves‘

Duly noted ☺️

So you think what Israel did in Gaza was perfectly ok do you ? Bombing little innocent children and starving them and bombing hospitals. Right so . 😩

TheIceBear · 04/03/2026 17:33

HappyFace2025 · 04/03/2026 17:30

Because it's the Guardian. They hate Israel.

Nearly everyone in Europe is quite critical of them at this stage to be fair . And with good reason.

I agree with @sabababa. What Hamas did was evil and given half the chance are committed to do it again. Israel has no choice but to defend itself.
The shame belongs to Hamas who do nothing to protect their own civilians by providing safe places for them, keeping all their tunnels (built with funds supposed to be for the benefit of all Gazans!) to hide in together with their armoury ready to fire on Israelis.

they went overboard . Starving innocent people and stopping aid trucks coming in. Take a listen to yourself . These are human beings you are talking about. Seriously .

It is very sad but there is no evidence this was caused by US/. Israeli forces. The evidence points to a failed Iranian rocket launch.

A visual guide to the US-Israeli war on Iran and Tehran’s response

Missiles and bombs landed across Iran, hitting political and security targets in Tehran, including supreme leader’s residence

Anyway, if 7/10 was just an incident, then the last 2 years in Gaza were just a military incident as well. If it works for one, it works for the other.

The Israeli response to the terrorist incident was a military incident. Easy. Incident can cover anything, right?

I would describe the many many atrocities and human rights violations that Israel committed during that war as incidents when described separately yes . Not the whole war .

I was telling one poster to read @Twiglets1's post. No one suggests 'that she is the font of all knowledge' (wtf?) but 7/10 was a terrorist ATTACK, not a mere incident.

Edited

I know what you said
I looked at that post, as you’d referred it, assuming it would have some factual intelligence
but nothing

There's no point unless there’s referenced facts
it’s just a blind statement from a mumsnetter

Yes let's trust the alcoholic sex offender who doesn't know how to text people correctly, that will be the path to truth.

So will you be erring on the side of trusting Iran then?

Whilst I have no comment on this question of terminology

You can’t seriously be telling the pp to refer back to Twiglets post
They aren’t the fountain of all knowledge and that post gives absolutely no evidence at all
