You don't understand what genocide is so I'll no longer argue that point with you.
Of course proportionally many more women and children died - Hamas has never provided protection for its civilians in Gaza. Only Hamas operatives were able to take cover in their tunnels.

That's fine let's leave the genocide point, as other poster have said they you should really look into it.

If the IDF killing 10% of women is acceptable to you - we have nothing in common.

Why are you mis representing what i said?

"Hamas haven't lost as such" is not stating they are winning, so why the lies...

You really don't get it do you? the Palestinians still want a homeland, still want Israel gone, none of what has happened will change that, there are millions of Palestinians, of course new more blood thirsty versions will appear.

All the children made orphans in Gaza are rich pickings for the radicals.

Please explain it to me? What did you mean by Hamas haven't lost as such?

I think it is you that is struggling with the legal definition of genocide

I don't think Irish are nazis today. I think they have a very dodgy past though with this and there is a deep deep current of antisemtisim that has always existed in Ireland (you know, Jews killing Christ and all that).

To be honest, you're the one who seems to be avoiding reality.

How many Jewish refugees did Ireland take during WW2? You said I'mw rong. What's the number?

I didn’t say you were wrong about the number . I said you are wrong that Ireland are any semites and Nazi bedfellows. I didn’t specify a number .

You don't have to kill everyone for it to be a genocide. 5% is significant part of the population, especially when that is weighted towards the women and children. 10% of Gazan women have been killed.

This is such a depressing thread. "It's all ok, they only killed 1 in 10 women"

I think you have just proved my point that it hasn't been a genocide if 5% of the residents have been killed since 8 October 2023.

I just can't believe we've got a thread full of pp justifying actions of two groups of islamic extreamists.

Crazy times.

Where are these people ? I don’t see anyone justifying it

Yes - it’s apparently an antisemitic trope to point out that America joined in with the bombing because they knew Israel planned to attack Iran first even though that is literally what America has said.

Yes, that Rubio press conference was an utter embarrassment wasn't it.
Anti semite is thrown around incorrectly constantly.

UK hasn't been a 'super power' since the 19th century. The empire collapsed mid 20th century. I agree about the chronic underfunding of defence (don't remember ever voting for or against it) We are now paying the price of consistently poor government.

If you voted Tory in 1992, Lab in 1997 etc and Tory in the last 5 GE's you voted for more defence cuts.

Badenoch (as part of Sunaks Govt) went into the the last GE promising even more defence cuts.

It was all there to see.

I don’t look at SM much at all so my comment was aimed at people on MN. Some people on MN say accusations of antisemitism are getting old - the same people would never say accusations of racism generally are getting old.

Not at all Twiglets. It is entirely different to falsely accuse people of anti semetism for criticising the actions of the Israelis gov. or IDF and quite another to criticise someone for saying that they hate all Jews or all brown people or all Arabs. Totally different things.

HappyFace2025 · 05/03/2026 08:46

Alexandra2001 · 05/03/2026 08:40

We are not the super power we once were, we are under prepared/incapable because of the chronic un-funding of defence, which we have largely voted for.

We can't even send one ship to defend our airbase for 1-2 weeks...... The US track record is poor. Let's not forget that Trump put the Taliban in power in Afghanistan. Now he seems to want to put a Kurdish militia in charge by arming them.

This may or may not happen re other groups replacing Hamas, but Hamas as an organisation have lost their current war in Gaza, whether they officially surrender or not. Unless you can look at what they have achieved in Gaza and somehow frame that as "winning".

Hamas has had millions of $$$ poured into Gaza since 2005. They haven't used the funds to help and protect* their civilians, instead using it to build their tunnels underneath Gaza, fill them with armoury bought and provided from Iran as well as keep their leadership in luxury away in other ME countries.
*There are palpably no shelters for ordinary Gazans to retreat to from Israeli bombs. Hamas and the Iranian regime couldn't give a fuck for ordinary citizens who are collateral damage to them.
So your hypothesis that not heavily sanctioning Iran so that the money would be spent for the benefit of their citizens holds as much water as a bucket with a hole in it.

A bucket with a hole in the top presumably.

5% of the residents of Gaza have been killed. Picture your kids school and round up 1-2 kids per class at random - that be a noticeable impact.

If you cannot see that some Palestinians will continue the terrorism on Israel, then you know nothing of the history of the region.

Do you remember when the PLO was "defeated" and their leaders exiled.... how long did Israel have peace and security for?

Hamas is just a name.

Oh Dear indeed.

'International diplomacy is the only way that ever really worked'
Worked so well during the 1930s didn't it? And yet took 6 years of fighting to rid ourselves of the Nazis and Japanese. Because of 'diplomacy' UK among others was woefully unprepared for WW2 (as are we now).

You can argue until you are blue in the face but it is not a genocide. If G-d forbid it had been/was, then the people in Gaza would have been obliterated by now.

Not having finished the job is not a defence FFS, to even suggest such a thing is obtuse and offensive.

Anyway the relevant UN article states "acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group”

The list of acts includes killing members of the group, causing serious physical or mental to members of the group or inflicting living conditions designed to bring about the destruction of the group. Tick, tick, tick the only thing to prove is intent

You responded to a comment I made claiming it was an anti semetic trope that the Jews controlled the world when I said that it has been said by the pentagon to congress that the reason America was involved is because Israel intended to strike Iran and America thought they’d get attacked as a result. Israel planned to attack. America didn’t have any intelligence that Iran was going to attack.

America were planning to get involved if the nuclear talks didn't work and they weren't working. They probably knew they wouldn't but had to get their warships etc in place. Anyway, the Iranian negotiators were boasting about their enriched uranium and how they managed to evade regulatory checks so hardly being serious negotiators.

There was a thread on MN dating back to January when the US began gradually moving warships etc into the region ... very heavy hints/threats that they were preparing to go to war with Iran.

People like you implying that Netanyahu controls Trump ... it's ridiculous. The US was already involved & for their own reasons. Israel indicating they were about to strike Iran may have influenced the exact moment the US launched their first strikes but that is all.

Until a couple of years ago Iran was the most heavily sanctioned country in the world, sanctions which have been in place for decades. If they had been allowed to take part in trade then there would have been more money, lots of it, to invest and even a state run by religious nutters would have invested in infrastructure and civil projects if they had the money. As it is they prioritised the military, I can understand why

Hamas has had millions of $$$ poured into Gaza since 2005. That not my interpretation. I think what these groups do is abhorrent but I don't support bombing them. In mind it is not unlike I find the crimes of Axel Rudakubana abhorrent but it still doesn't make me support the state killing him but at a state scale. You you can be against two things. International diplomacy is the only way that ever really worked.
