It’s all just fucking depressing. But tik tok for news Op? Seriously?

The first page is all people claiming it was or was probably Iranian . Regardless a thread like this isn’t going to be just full of people saying thoughts and prayers or whatever it’s always going to start some sort of heated discussion

OP felt they knew it wasn't Iranian and used Tiktok as proof.

A few people agreed and someone said, Nothing will happen to the two countries who did this.

So then people who care about facts had to point out that we didn't actually know which country had caused it. Then some gave their opinion that it could have been or probably was Iranian.

It isn't just individual soldiers, this is standard operating procedure, rape and sexual violence is being explicitly ordered and encouraged by top military and civilian leadership. It's disgusting to try and downplay the systematic use of sexual violence against a population as just the odd rogue soldier.

Specific forms of sexual and gender-based violence – such as forced public stripping and nudity, sexual harassment including threats of rape, as well as sexual assault – comprise part of the Israeli Security Forces’ standard operating procedures toward Palestinians.
Other forms of sexual and gender-based violence, including rape and violence to the genitals, were committed either under explicit orders or with implicit encouragement by Israel’s top civilian and military leadership, the report said.

And that needs to be investigated more fully. Although the UN have a poor record in similar situations (see Bosnia).

I note that it states the “only conclusion” of such attacks is that they were state sanctioned - clearly this is not the case and other explanations are available, including rogue people in the Israel government.

The UN have been accused of political bias against Israel on several points re Gaza. UN Watch ( a Geneva based NGO which monitors the actions of the UN) has long pointed out the anti semitism in the UN (long proceeding the recent Gaza situation).

As far as I’m aware this has not been through the courts

It got derailed by people saying it was an Israeli/US/Iranian bomb before any of know the truth.

Multiple threads get derailed by people using the genocide word when they could just say possible genocide and avoid all the subsequent discussion of is it/isn't it genocide but they never learn.

I think it’s the people saying it was an Iranian bomb with no proof that almost immediately derailed the thread to be honest . A thread about such an event is never going to be not controversial.

Ah sorry, you’re right, my mistake. I should have put “most people who can think critically…” thanks for pointing this out.

Individual actions of soldiers do not reflect the intentions of the government. Throughout history, unfortunately every war sees soldiers acting out of line, its part of the human condition unfortunately. Luckily Israel seems to be trying to deal with such situations https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqldpyn5ng6o

You might be able to help me out, in the interest of balance I’ve been looking for details on how Hamas have dealt with individuals who tortured and raped those on both Oct 7 and those it kidnapped. I’m sure you would agree that they should also have been held to account by their seniors???

I agree it’s very unclear it this point so no one can say it’s an Iranian, US or Israeli missile. Certainly no one can say whether it was intentional or accidental, although I think most seem to agree based on critical thinking it’s unlikely the killing of young girls as the aim was the aim by anyone

I mean people like you who call it "Israel's war" when it is very clearly a joint military campaign between the US & Israel

Rubio did say Israel was going to go to war with Iran and the USA joined as it thought Iran would attack the USA as part of retaliation. It does suggest it was Israel championing it. Also Bibi said recently that he’s been waiting decades for it - and there’s lots of clips of him pushing this for decades. Whereas Trump and his cabinet had been against attacking Iran recently. Tulsi even sold t-shirts saying don’t attack Iran.
While both sides are involved I think it’s fair to see it more as Israel’s war. Just like Iraq was more the US’s war than it was the UK’s.

I don't understand this insistence with people wanting to call it "Israel's war".

Is it because you want to blame Israel more than the US?

The US themselves are insistent that it is a joint war and they were clearly preparing to go to war with Iran in the months leading up to it. Not to mention that Trump's personality means that he does what he wants to do.

If the US had triggered the first attack & then Israel joined in that same day, would you then call it the US's war?

Not a 'pathetic' excuse. Supply lorries may well have had ammunition in them.

Tell that to all the men and women and children who starved to death. That there was literally no safe way of getting supplies to them when they were blockaded off by Isreal . Sorry but I just don’t believe that

Have people no empathy to allow a single thread to talk about the loss of young lives at the school

Shame

I think everyone thinks the loss of life, especially children in war is terrible. But in a war people have different allegiances, talking about deaths in an ongoing war will always bring about political discussion.

There is no excuse for starving innocent people and stopping all aid coming through to them.

It’s literally there in the Geneva Convention that you can stop aid it’s enshrined in International Law. If you want aid to come through, it’s allowed to because of the Geneva Convention. But the drafters realised sometimes this right had to be curtailed and therefore in certain circumstances it can be. You can’t have one without the other.

As I keep saying no one here is in a position to decide whether stopping the aid was because of security concerns (allowed) or with the intention to starve the population (not allowed). This will undoubtedly be investigated by the relevant international courts

TheIceBear · 05/03/2026 10:18

Wellthisisdifficult · 05/03/2026 10:16

The drafters of the Geneva Convention took such matters seriously enough to include it, so it’s obviously not a “pathetic excuse” but a very real threat. If you have an issue with the drafting of international law, you might want to discuss the matter with those who make it (you might want to have more solid grounds than it’s a “pathetic excuse” though).

Can you honestly not see allowing aid trucks to flow through from countries hostile to your existence might be a bit of a worry on the security front???

No matter what, the massacre of innocent schoolgirls cannot be justified. The truth will not be revealed. We are obtaining edited information through the media, and we make judgments based on skillfully manipulated media narratives and the prejudices we already hold. I refuse to trust the majority and will not make any hasty conclusions. Now, the only thing I can rely on is my own judgment.

So what is “the truth” if it’s not going to be revealed, how do you know what “the truth” is? Do you have some intelligence? Do you work for the security services?

TheIceBear · 05/03/2026 10:12

Wellthisisdifficult · 05/03/2026 10:03

Can you prove that they were specifically targeting civilians? Because that would most likely breach the Geneva Convention. If you have categoric proof that this is the case and that the aid wasn’t stopped on specific security concerns (allowed under the GC) you should present your evidence to the relevant authorities (although, to be in a position to have such information you’re probably breaching some confidentiality clause in your employment/office contract by posting it on here)

I don't know what you mean by 'most agree that Israel was targetting Hamas'.
Most Israelis clearly agree with that statement. Millions of others do not. There are multiple, well documented accounts of the IDF deliberately targetting civilians. The difference is that some are happy to turn a blind eye and ignore it or justify it. Personally, I find that despicable.

A view of the Sde Teiman military detention facility in southern Israel (10 January 2025)

Israel soldier jailed for abusing Palestinian detainees from Gaza

Israel's military says he punched detainees and used his weapon while they were handcuffed and blindfolded.

I knew that one of the apologists would be along shortly.
Personally, I have not been in Gaza or Israel recently. I have seen multiple reports from people who have been though eg doctors working in Gaza.
Bibi is already wanted by the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity btw.
