@Twiglets1 Trump has certainly proven that he’s capable of starting his own conflicts with his own agenda (especially if we consider the people he’s selected like Hegseth and Miller); however, Rubio initially stated that the US bombings in Iran were pre-emptive strikes, as they knew they would be targets once they learnt Israel were about to attack Iran. Blinken has also given an interview explaining how Israel tried to pressure Obama into bombing Iran in a similar way and he resisted. The combination of Netanyahu and Trump is lethal for us all.

Israel hasn't used their nuclear weapons despite extreme provocation.

Status of Iran’s nuclear programme

Since 2019, Iran is considered to have been incrementally violating the terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, commonly referred to as the ‘Iran nuclear deal’), which was agreed between Iran, the UK, China, France, Russia, the US, and Germany in 2015. Under the terms of that deal, Iran accepted limits on its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.

Iran is currently enriching uranium to 60%, which is significantly beyond the 3.67% permitted under the JCPOA and far beyond enrichments levels considered necessary for civilian purposes. Weapons-grade uranium is enriched to 90%. Iran’s overall stockpile of enriched uranium (at varying degrees of enrichment) is currently more than 40 times that permitted under the JCPOA, and it continues to expand its enrichment capabilities with the installation of additional, more advanced, centrifuges. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) noted in May 2025 that while enrichment is not forbidden in and of itself, “the fact that Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon State in the world that is producing and accumulating uranium enriched to 60% remains a matter of serious concern” (PDF).

In June 2025, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution which, for the first time since 2005, formally found Iran to be non-compliant with its nuclear safeguards obligations (PDF). In response to the IAEA resolution, which Iran said was politically motivated, it announced a number of measures intended to accelerate its nuclear programme.

Too late to edit but on the question of Israel & nuclear weapons they have never confirmed or denied that they have them. So not sure how you are so confident that they have “at least 400 nuclear weapons” @oldtiredcyclist

Iran has never demanded that they should have nuclear weapons, in fact, quite the opposite, which was backed up by the CIA and other US agencies. It was only the mad criminal in Israel, who for the last 35 years has been insisting that they are just weeks away from having a nuclear weapon.
Meanwhile, it is Israel who have never signed up to the non proliferation treaty, despite having at least 400 nuclear weapons, they are truly evil.

@oldtiredcyclist If Iran’s nuclear program was peaceful and benign, why did they build everything deep underground away from inspection?

Don’t forget ‘Death to America!’ ‘Death to Israel!’ and the Islamic regime murdering 30,000 of their own citizens.

Contrary as ever, Trump claimed today that Iran bombed the girls school.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-iran-strikes-school-girls-dead-b2934268.html

Even when the truth is revealed, Trump still believes his own deluded view of the truth. To think that 78 million Americans voted for him.

So Trump was lying... glad we cleared that up.

Plenty of very well versed ME experts are saying that Israel bounced the US into doing this, Trump wanted, originally, negotiations, then again, he might want them again tomorrow....

The Israelis were always against this.

Trump lies yes, but I'm not sure which exact lie you think has been cleared up.

He never claimed to only have one reason for this war against Iran.

Twiglets1 · 08/03/2026 16:23

There's lots of other atrocious things I could mention that Iran are doing if you want more evidence of their evil. Not even just to the people they are at war with - which provides some justification - but also to the people they are not at war with, like their neighbours.

It's embarrassing when people try to make out that this is Israel's war. Trump is committed to destroying the current regime too, for his own reasons. He is not a puppet or poodle of Netanyahu's, no matter how much certain people want to believe that Jews are dangerous for ruling the world.

You mentioned the IRGC attacking an oil tanker as if thats an equivalent...

Do you honestly believe this has anything to do with murdering civilians and nukes???
Trump said Iran's enrichment facilities were destroyed, was he lying?

Its about Israel wanting to destroying Iran once and for all, they know in Trump, they have a POTUS they can manipulate.

Spot on. No apologies from Trump or Netanyahu. I remember in the Gulf War some Bush adviser saying ' Power is its own reward'. Very chilling. That maxim is being followed to the letter now.

TheignT · 08/03/2026 16:27

Everyone is worried about Iran having nuclear weapons. I'm also worried about Trump having them.

The excellent Christiane Amanpour articulated an Iranian point of view well on the BBC this morning, ‘Iran is a nation held hostage by its own regime, but haunted by the fate of its neighbours in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Stuck in a house we hate, surrounded by fires we fear even more.’

I’m not sure if anyone saw the interview with Trump’s former national security advisor on Newsnight, but his take on it and ‘advice’ (!) was that the Iranians shouldn’t have built a girls’ school near a naval base… No accountability whatsoever.

Well, the Israelis have bombed oil infrastructure now, ensuring death and environmental/human health damage for years to come.

You have the choice (not a great one i agree) to stay inside and not to protest, those Iranian girls had no such choice, neither have any of the civilians caught up in Trump and Netanyahu's murderous and indefensible attacks.

One can hate the actions of Governments without hating their populations.

They’ve hit IRGC oil depots. This is the targeting military infrastructure stage - so fuel, ammo, transport etc. This isn’t random, but a strategy employed to break IRGC combat power.

This is necessary. This is how you destroy them. Don’t pretend to care for the civilians when you’re pretending that the regime is in any way the superior option here. The USA and Israel are not even targeting the civilian population - it is the IRGC that is doing that. Netanyani and Trump are nothing, NOTHING, compared to the IRGC. Don’t pretend to care for civilians if you’re turning a blind to that.

The citizens in Iran are being told, by the US and Israel, not to take to the streets. People are cheering from balconies at the strikes, and being shot at for doing so. They are having threats to themselves and their children broadcast into their living rooms.

Whataboutery, if the US/Israelis hadn't attacked, none of this would be happening..

Those girls still alive, the oil refinery still working, IRGC not, from their POV, defending the country.

Pls don't misunderstand me, Iranian Govt is/was a terrible regime and we are right to never let them get Nuclear weapons but that can be done through far less destructive means.

But even if a bombardment was required, why go for oil sector?? or for that matter Schools.... We know what that causes for the population, after Iraq.

Iran have targeted a US owned oil tanker if you want to talk about environmental damage. They are also targeting enemy infrastructure:

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also confirmed that it launched the 25th wave of Operation True Promise 4 earlier.

The Guard said the operation involved drones and strategic missiles, including Fattah and Emad missiles.

According to the statement, the targets of the 25th wave included military centers and support infrastructure belonging to the American-Israeli alliance in the region.

I suppose you could tell that to the 70,000 plus civilians in Gaza who have been killed by Israeli bombing, or to be more accurate their relatives, to see whether they think that those people were not deliberately killed by Israel. I mean to say, that is a lot of accidents.

It was/is a war. It is very sad but inevitable that people including civilians will die. Without the Iron Dôme Défense system thousands of Israelis would have been killed by Palestinian rockets fired from Gaza and South Lebanon.

How many Iranians have you personally spoke to, who are in favour of the war? This war has made my wife hate the US and Israel even more and she is no supporter of the regime. She was in Tehran when Saddam Hussein, helped by the US was sending missiles to her country. She worked in a hospital, where they were receiving thousands of people injured in chemical weapons attacks, again the US helping Iraq to carry out these attacks.

The Iranian emigrés in the US who support the war are lucky in that they and their immediate families are not the ones being bombed.

My husband has spoken to some in the hospital he works at who are in favour of the war because they are hoping for regime change. I haven't spoken to any but I've seen and heard the testimony of some on the news.

The addition of the words "even more" when describing how you wife hates the US and Israel are telling.

She probably wouldn't actually describe herself as antisemitic (few people do). She just hates Israel.

I think they have a preferable not to be attacked by their own government in peace time, yes.

I know I would - and don't forget forget many Iranians are in favour of the war. Not in favour of getting killed of course.
