Nice guy in hospital turned weird

TheOpalFox · 03/03/2026 13:56

When my dad was in hospital really poorly a guy next to my dad was really kind and friendly with my dad, my dad got discharged and swapped numbers with this gentleman. He’s in his 60s
Well he’s texting my dad saying he fancies me
And can he take me out and he’s literally acting obsessed with me.
Sounds awful but would you block him? Or is that mean? Thanks

  • I'd send him a short, polite text saying it was nice to meet him but you're not interested in pursuing a relationship with him. Then block him. He's a creep.
Don't do that. Don't even engage. Just block him.

When my dad was in hospital really poorly ..

  • and you were understandably worried and a little vulnerable -

.. a guy next to my dad was really kind and friendly with my dad ...
- you'd caught his eye so he wanted to give your dad a good impression -

.. my dad got discharged and swapped numbers with this gentleman ...

  • let me guess whose idea that was! -

..Well he’s texting my dad saying he fancies me ...

  • cringe -

..And can he take me out..

  • do you usually require your dad's permission to go on a date? And notice he didn't ask whether you're interested in him. He seems to have taken that as a given -

...and he’s literally acting obsessed with me..
- OMG

... Sounds awful but would you block him? ..

  • I'd send him a short, polite text saying it was nice to meet him but you're not interested in pursuing a relationship with him. Then block him. He's a creep.
Disturbia81 · 04/03/2026 08:48

Yuck, why would he think a younger woman would be interested in him?? Sleazy fucker

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2026 08:47

Block him. Why are you even asking this?

BlackCat14 · 04/03/2026 08:47

Is he messaging you or your dad?

TheOpalFox · 03/03/2026 14:03

He made out he had no kids and was really poorly and he admired me for going to see my dad all day everyday. Now he’s just bloody creepy :(

Then if he’s ’bloody creepy’ why on earth do you think you’d be unreasonable to block him?? <unbelievable>

Noshadelamp · 04/03/2026 08:40

Why wouldn't you block him? You don't want contact with him so what choice do you have? Put up with it??

Op you need to think why you're prioritising his comfort over your own, why it feels mean.

I promise you, reflecting on this and digging out the internalised misogyny and conditioning NOW will set you up for life.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 04/03/2026 08:30

Seriously OP, quite apart from blocking him immediately and making it very clear to your dad that he must do the same, you really need to think about why you even felt the need to post this.

Women are often socialised from birth to ‘be nice’, to not assert boundaries, to never show anger, to be kind and not hurt anyone’s feelings. This makes us vulnerable to being pushed into uncomfortable and even dangerous situations, especially where predatory men are concerned. You need to consciously unlearn this behaviour, find your rage and stop questioning your right to push back on unwanted attention from arseholes like this.

He’s not ‘nice’, he a creepy manipulative old gimmer who’s perving on you. It’s not ‘mean’ to tell him to get in the fucking bin, and you don’t need a public forum to validate your own instincts.

GreyCarpet · 04/03/2026 08:24

Do you seriously need to ask the Internet this?

Iocanepowder · 04/03/2026 08:20

Jesus. Hope your dad hasn’t given out his or your address or workplace to this utter weirdo.

PinotPinot · 04/03/2026 08:02

Ew block. Creepy bastard

BiscoffCheesecakes · 03/03/2026 14:20

It's a shame you think like that. Not all men are, far from it

OP, how do you now know he wasn't that ill & he doesn't have kids?

What does it matter whether the kids are real or not?

He's creeping on her, she doesn't like it and she should block him.

DonnaBanana · 04/03/2026 07:56

I’m surprised your dad told you about this. That seems a bit silly on his part. This man is not in contact with you I assume so there’s nothing to do. But I don’t think being nice and finding women attractive are mutually exclusive. He can be nice and still stupid.

Isthateveryonethen · 03/03/2026 14:23

The fact that you are asking if it’s mean, you are exactly the type of woman these creeps target. Why on earth are you even questioning it? Do you really need someone to give you permission to block him?

Exactly this.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/03/2026 14:21

OP, why would you think that you shouldn't block him? I mean, what on earth would keeping his number add to your life?

do you like him?
do you want to go out with him?

lottiegarbanzo · 04/03/2026 07:27

How is this even a question?

What’s the alternative - and why would that be your choice? What’s the benefit to you if being perved over by a worryingly persistent manipulative creep?

toomuchfaff · 03/03/2026 18:02

Do you often put the feelings of strangers over your own?

You owe this man nothing. Block him

BauhausOfEliott · 03/03/2026 14:30

So he's texting your dad? Then your dad needs to block him immediately. I strongly doubt your dad really enjoys getting messages from someone who's desperate to fuck his daughter, frankly.

If your dad was stupid enough to give him your number, then obviously you need to block him as well.

I can't believe you need to ask about this. Why would anyone even entertain the idea of letting this weirdo carry on messaging?

TakeALookAtTheseSwatches · 03/03/2026 14:25

Block him immediately, I've heard of men doing stuff like this and turning in to full blown stalkers. Don't take the risk.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 03/03/2026 14:23

Of course it's not unkind - it's rational and self protecting.
Don't just block him if he's somehow got your number but ensure that your Dad doesn't unwittingly collude with him. Make sure he knows that the only answer to the creep is NO and that he mustn't have any conversations with this guy about you.
Your Dad will be the weak link.

He probably thinks he has found his retirement plan YOU / Nurse with a purse.

Men are disgusting, self centered creatures.

It's a shame you think like that. Not all men are, far from it

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 03/03/2026 14:18

Sounds awful but would you block him? Or is that mean? Thanks.

Why do women do this to ourselves? feel the need to placate horrible men to the detriment of our own boundaries and feelings.

You owe this guy absolutely nothing - instead of feeling guilty, get angry at the fact that he took advantage of your kind nature during a stressful time, when you were visiting your father in hospital.

Bonkers1966 · 03/03/2026 14:17

Block the cheeky fecker. Stay safe OP
