Nice guy in hospital turned weird

TheOpalFox · 03/03/2026 13:56

When my dad was in hospital really poorly a guy next to my dad was really kind and friendly with my dad, my dad got discharged and swapped numbers with this gentleman. He’s in his 60s
Well he’s texting my dad saying he fancies me
And can he take me out and he’s literally acting obsessed with me.
Sounds awful but would you block him? Or is that mean? Thanks

I'm not much younger than you and that's not been my experience at all

Then you have been very blessed , or lucky

Most men are definitely NOT like that

Even if he had just won the euro millions, had no friends or family, had 6 months to live and I was skint, I would still block.

THEDEACON · 06/03/2026 05:50

My Dad would have warned him off by now

Is this really the time for NAMALT?

Given most abusers are men, if women want to say men are disgusting creatures on a women's forum, they should be bloody well allowed to.

Absolutely. We just don’t have to believe it.

I haven’t read all the threads but has anyone mentioned dementia ? It’s really common for male dementia sufferers to think they are young again .
My friend visited her dad and he told the nurse she was “ tasty ” .. another friends’dad pestered his assistant so much she send the friend a text saying “ tell your dad never to message me again” and the same dad had a skinfade haircut with a stripe cut out !! Block by all means but maybe all the mean comments don’t cover the whole story .

No. Because it doesn't matter what his reasons are for doing it. It's irrelevant to her.

Assuming you're an adult woman, now might be a good time to reflect on your boundaries (or lack thereof).
Why would you think that blocking a random man for his inappropriate behaviour towards you be "mean"?

Italiangreyhound · 05/03/2026 19:04

Block. Awful behaviour.

shivermetimbers77 · 05/03/2026 19:01

Of course you’re not being unreasonable.. also, what does your dad think? Hopefully he’s agreeing with us and telling this man to take a running jump

How does it sound awful ??
He’s a fucking creep .
What age are you ?
You sound quite young .
I hope your father hasn’t disclosed where he lives or where you live ?

TwoTuesday · 05/03/2026 18:03

So what if "it's mean"? Be mean, why would you not block someone creepy?

Nicii · 05/03/2026 18:01

He wants you to be his carer...ask your dad to tell him you have a boyfriend...or to block his number.

How creepy! Absolutely block

Ooooh Nooo! Absolutely block him. Creep!

Solost92 · 05/03/2026 17:59

Nice guy turns out to be a weirdo. Shocker. Block. You don't have to be nice to men.

notacooldad · 05/03/2026 17:57

Go with your gut.
You dont feel ok with this then trust yourself.
You dont owe him anything.
Just block.

GreyCarpet · 04/03/2026 17:42

Its really interesting reading the responses and the different attitudes towards these men from women.

So much 'genuinely decent person' and 'poor bloke' type comment and advice to 'be polite'. The OP wondering if it's mean to not be interested? And the NAMALTing?

Seriously? Why do so many women feel they need to put a man's feelings above their own.

marmitegirl01 · 04/03/2026 17:31

yup. We need to stop being polite. And we need to teach our daughters too. Who cares if they think we are rude. It’s not our business what men think of us nor are we responsible for what men feel.

GreyCarpet · 04/03/2026 17:27

Pistachiocake · 04/03/2026 15:10

He might be a genuinely decent person who has problems, so it might not actually be his fault if he can't understand a polite no thank you, but for safety, if he won't or can't respect that, then block.

That is not the Op's concern.

It's far more likely that he is just a dodgy old bloke who fancies himself a 'young bit of skirt'.

Genuinely decent people don't behave like this and if he really does have problems to the extent that he couldn't understand 'a polite no thank you', she's better off blocking him from the off to avoid all confusion.

Women don't owe men like this anything!

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2026 15:44

AcquadiP · 04/03/2026 14:32

OP says the guy is obsessed. If she doesn't give him a clear 'not interested', he'll continue to pester her dad who is recovering from a serious illness.

She certainly doesn't need to be polite and say it was nice to meet him.

Seriously why do you even have to ask? It’s surely blindingly obvious you block him.

This !!

AcquadiP · 04/03/2026 14:32

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/03/2026 08:54

  • I'd send him a short, polite text saying it was nice to meet him but you're not interested in pursuing a relationship with him. Then block him. He's a creep.
Don't do that. Don't even engage. Just block him.
