Just that really!
I am 37 would love one more (a third) but just don't think I can put my body through I again.

Mine was 35 but that’s because I have a maternal history of entering menopause early. My sister was 33 and my mother was 38 so I thought I should plan for the worst case scenario.

I had our last baby at 35. I’m currently 37 and still experiencing regular periods. I wouldn’t have another baby now but that’s not due to my body, more to do with how bloody hard it is compared to my 20’s.

MouseCheese87 · 02/03/2026 10:40

Mine was 30, I had them all by 29.

BelleEpoque27 · 02/03/2026 10:39

I had first (and only) at 37, and was fit, healthy, and conceived easily. No idea why some people act like it's ancient - most of my friends had children aged 35-40. None of my friendship group intentionally got pregnant under 30.

I did think about having another at 40, but didn't feel I could cope mentally at the time. By the time I did feel I could cope I was 42, and decided I felt too old - so I guess 40-ish was my cut-off. I'm still having regular periods at 44 so I assume I could still conceive, although they have started to go a bit haywire in the last year.

I wasn't in the slightest bit interested in having kids in my 20s - couldn't have thought of anything worse 😂I do wish we'd got on with it a bit earlier in my 30s, but we wanted to buy a house first for stability (and my god I'm glad we did).

Solost92 · 02/03/2026 10:39

I think we'll be aiming for our 4th and last at 35. I'm pregnant with no. 3 atm with a smaller age gap than between my first two and its really tough. We'll wait a few years till the next one. Let the kids be older, get us more comfortable financially.

I guess it's when you feel like it'll be too hard though or how old you want to be when rhey have kids. I want to be an involved grandparent and offer alot of help that we don't have

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 02/03/2026 10:37

For me, it was 30 because I wanted to have mine in my 20s. I would have been fine with going up to about 33 though if we had needed more time.

it all depends on circumstances though. Had I not met DH until a decade later, then I would have had my kids a decade later so I would have given you a different answer.

my friend wanted hers before 35, but cancer treatment and subsequent IVF meant she was 39 having her first.

you can only do what feels right for you

Zivvy · 02/03/2026 09:44

It's not possible to have a cut-off is it, unless you don't really really want children.

It's all well and good saying "I swore I wouldn't have kids after 35", but then what if you don't meet the right person or you have fertility struggles?

Are you actually saying that if you were struggling to conceive you'd stop trying at 35 because you said you would? Or would you keep trying and maybe have a child at 37? If the latter, 35 isn't your cut-off is it. You just happened to get the right set of circumstances to have children sooner than this.

This.

Fridaysgirl17 · 02/03/2026 10:36

I was 37 when I had my second & last, hes 5 now & I would not have been able(didn't want to) go again, when I was pregnant with him I knew that was it.

magpie234 · 02/03/2026 10:36

My first is due end of April and I am 36. It took us years due to infertility issues unfortunately. Hoping to be two and done by 40 max.

nowayho · 02/03/2026 10:35

Mine was 35. I had 2 already, but I always had 35 in my head as the oldest that I would have one .

I think because I would still like to be fairly young when the kids are more independent and move out etc. I still wanted time to ‘get my life back’ & have holidays and go to restaurants again just the 2 of us. Not that I don’t enjoy them, obviously.

It was also my cut off point because I get really ill during pregnancy and develop epilepsy again. I think if I was any older, that it would have polished me off.

Fortunately, my partner gave in and we had our final one at 35.

Agree totally.
I finished at 28 and I have total freedom in my 40s. I do think a massive "fuck that" when I hear my work colleagues in their 30s are pregnant or when they’re of similar age to me worrying about childcare or school runs.

But you must of had those worries in your 20's when they were going clubbing thinking the same about you?

Oreosareawful · 02/03/2026 10:31

35 was my limit. All the literature and things I saw in hospital described 35 as an 'older mum' so I didn't want to be one of those!

anotheranonanon · 02/03/2026 10:28

I had my last of 5 at 42. Having had my first at 30. Was completely straightforward pregnancy and delivery. I know loads of people that had difficult pregnancies and deliveries in their 20’s whereas I had textbook easy pregnancies and deliveries. I wouldn’t have another but that is because 5 is a lot financially not my age although I wouldn’t have intervention to get pregnant. I might have had more though if we were much wealthier.

37 is young (I had one then too!) - I was back in my jeans the morning after I delivered and on the school run within days. You know how your body though and how you cope with your existing children (which should be the biggest determining factor) - 3 is a big step up from 2 (although 4 and 5 not so much in my view, for me personally anyhow). My youngest is at school now and I don’t feel old at all - I have a full time demanding job and am not objectively older than many of the other mums at the school gate - maybe I’ll feel older when he’s 18 and I’m 60 but to be honest that is a long way off right now. I love the busy household we have created.

Cheese55 · 02/03/2026 10:24
  1. Had him at 42. Conceived first time and no complications throughout. Menopause at 52ish, periods just stopped one day.
GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 02/03/2026 10:20

27, because we already have 3. We’re both done. Vasectomy booked and ready to go!

I did have a bit of a wobble and say I maybe wanted one more but DH put a stop to it and said I’d have to get rid of my car (which I love) and get a big ugly mini van. I don’t think I actually wanted another child, I think it’s the finality of it. Realistically I think we have enough children. Once they have left we have discussed being open to fostering, probably emergency placements - but that’s a long time away. If I had waited later in life I would say my limit would probably be 38? 40? But you can’t really comment on these things when you don’t know. My mum had 6 kids, I was the last at 40 and she always told me she’s glad she had me but it was bloody hard, much harder than the others.

dailyconniptions · 02/03/2026 10:19

35 max. Plus 2 children already is more than enough. The planet is screwed. Their futures are getting bleaker and bleaker.

herbalteabag · 02/03/2026 10:18

I had my last at 35 and now he is nearly 18 I'm glad I'm not older. It feels about right with him hoping to go to uni this year and my parents still in good health and not needy yet.

GoldenGoldenGolden · 02/03/2026 10:15

30, though had my last at 28 wouldn’t have anymore after 30

ClawsandEffect · 02/03/2026 10:13

AmIMad95 · 02/03/2026 10:05

I'd have preferred to have children no later than 35, but circumstance prevented it. I had my first at 33, second at 36, and would consider a third before 40. I do slightly regret being an older mum, though. My own parents are older and it's sad that they won't have as much time with me and their grandchildren.

Exactly this. The woman I know who has just had a baby at 41 herself has old parents. So the grandparents are late 70s. The grandparents don't babysit or do much helping with the children because they find it too much and will be lucky to be around to see the children finish primary school. Whereas I'm hoping to meet great grandchildren.

Mistyglade · 02/03/2026 10:09

I had DS at 38, 4 months shy of 39.

Lidlisthebusiness · 02/03/2026 10:08

I had my last baby at 42. I had said I wouldn't have babies past 30, but we have 6 now, and 5 of those were past 30!
I haven't felt any of my pregnancies or births have been any harder as I've aged, and I don't find it any more work looking after a now 1 year old than I did when I was in my 20's. It's all very individual though.

8TinyToeBeans · 02/03/2026 10:06

I think 35. I'm 36 now and while I've always felt that it was something that could happen, I now feel that it's too late. So without consciously thinking about it much, 35 must have been my subconscious cut-off point. I wouldn't feel morally comfortable having a child now.

firstofallimadelight · 02/03/2026 10:04

I was 37 I said 39 at latest but tbh I found it hard and wished I’d done it 35 or younger

pontipinemum · 02/03/2026 10:04

For me absolute cut off was always going to be 40.

I turned 38 a few weeks ago. I had my sons at 34 and 36. I am completely done! I just could not do it to my body again. But I have no desire to have another baby so it is an easy decision for me.

PevenseygirlQQ · 02/03/2026 10:01

Im 36 and won’t have another even though I’d love a 3rd. I don’t think I could cope with being pregnant, plus my eldest is 16 and youngest is 4 so already have a massive age gap from kid1
