Obviously the pictures of Kelly Osbourne are both sad and terrifying.

But a few women i know have also used this method for weight loss and their skin has lost elasticity. They look at least 10 years older. Is this side effect being under played?

Kelly didn’t use weight loss injections. She had a gastric sleeve in 2018, and at some point buccal fat removal. Her recent further weight loss has exaggerated the effect of the fat removal. She has openly admitted that she is unwell due to her extreme grief. It’s about time people left her alone.

I feel many WLI users may be too young to remember the HIV panic in the early 90s. Ozempic face looks identical to HIV face which is possibly why many people feel instant aversion to it

Yes I agree.

ruethewhirl · 02/03/2026 08:13

Well, here's a radical thought - maybe it will vary from person to person? Just like significant weight loss by other means, in fact...

spaghettisweater · 02/03/2026 07:34

I agree. I know a lot of people who have lost large amounts of weight prior to WLI being available and absolutely none of them have that Ozempic face look. It's a very distinctive unhealthy look that seems unique to WLI. I have also heard dermatologists and plastic surgeons say that it changes the structure of how your fat/collagen behaves.

Many decades ago there was some low-level celebrity who had exactly that sort of hollow-cheeked WLI face. It was totally different to just a normal, slightly saggy face that people may get through standard weight loss or gastric band. It was the pronounced "T" shaped shadow under the cheekbone that made him look ill despite otherwise being active and normal. He later came out and admitted he was HIV positive, which explained everything. (Edit: He's still alive and fine so obviously not using someone's passing to make a point)

Im really not sure how its possible to be obese at a size 12 unless you are only about 5ft tall

These women are not obese, we are friends we discuss weight etc. We are talking 11st 10 at 5ft7, bmis of 24/25 etc.

I don't really care about whoever Osborne.

I do care about my friends though....i live in a well off south east village, most of my friends (all in our forties) had size 14/16 "mum bods" and have eagerly found online pharmacies to give them mounjaro. One has yoyo-ed down to a size 6, stopped taking it, piled weight back on incredibly fast & is back on it. Another told me she had a horrendous run of stomach issues when taking it.

I do think at some point the supply to these people will be more strictly regulated, they were barely even overweight let alone obese so this is unlikely to be providing them with health benefits. The "checks" seem to be incredibly easy to lie to get around.

A friend is a doctor doing some specialist research into obesity and said that there are concerns around what WLI drugs do to your own endocrine function, with some people gaining weight more rapidly when they stop taking them. This would worry me a bit - sure you could stay on a "maintenence dose" forever but what will the pharma companies charge you for that?

Not that dress size is remotely scientific, but are you quite sure none of your 14-16 friends had a 30 BMI? Because unless they're all pretty tall and/or only wear clothes from retailers who size skimpy, you might be surprised.

Do remember as well that the threshold is 27 if you have a qualifying condition, and women in their 40s often have high cholesterol or blood pressure.

We know that people gain weight more rapidly when they come off them because the data is already there. Reasons being rebound appetite which acts physiologically and psychologically, reduced metabolism due to muscle loss and the physiological effect of obesity on fat cells and hormones. Yes we probably will need to take a maintenance dose long term or most of us anyway. So what? Why does that worry you?

RingoJuice · 02/03/2026 08:11

Probably WLI will have an overall antiaging effect due to its effects on inflammation, but losing weight in any case will make you look older, this would be the case if you lost it the old-fashioned way.

Beautifulhaiku · 02/03/2026 08:11

Tuliptana · 02/03/2026 07:43

Im talking about who are buying it online and are lying about their BMI. This is a huge market but if not monitored by a qualified doctor, who knows what damage is being done.
They wont be getting regular blood tests .

I’m sure Kelly Osbourne will be getting regular blood tests. If there are health effects from use in women who are already low weight then these will already be known.

I was obese at a size 12… a size 16 is very often firmly obese.

Tiswa · 02/03/2026 08:08

@PurpleCoo you are using them in exactly the right way to weight loss down to a healthy weight/BMI alongside weight and strength training

and strength training is vital as it ensures fat loss not muscle loss (and I think is actually stated as being necessary when taking them)

two things are simultaneously true. WLI when used correctly are amazing. When used incorrectly and for too long they are not

and that is the issue - used when either a sensible approach would lose the excess weight or when there was no excess weight to begin with and without the proper dietary and exercise care - people still need a certain amount of nutrition

it is why Victoria Beckham has survived (and her work is commensurate with others) because her diet is fish and vegetables and exercise - and a whole lot of iron willpower

used correctly WLI amazing. Used incorrectly yes it can age you and properly have side effects worse than in they carried 10 extra pounds

KitsyWitsy · 02/03/2026 08:07

How are people still so ignorant? The drug has been around for years and there is lots of data. Maybe not decades but plenty to look at. It seems like people are desperate for people to suffer at some point for taking them. Why is that, I wonder.

The Osbornes look a state because they've combined WLI with questionable plastic surgery and not stopped when they reached a good weight.

I'm 47 and lost nearly 5 stone. I look fine but my neck is a bit wrinkly and saggy and my thighs and bum are a bit saggy as well. Better that than still carrying 5 stones around.

How would a GLP1 medication cause internal organs aging, I would love for you to discuss your reasoning behind this and how you think this is physiologically happening.

Of course the physical aging look makes sense as it would with any rapid weightloss - have you never seen any (sad) photos of people suffering from anorexia, a teenager can look like they are in their 40s.

That's very optimistic of you to think OP actually has any rationale for this, much less is capable of articulating it.

Not true. My hairdresser is under 35 and looks dreadful

Was she very obese? Because everyone I know of that age looks exactly the same as before they took them facially.

NetZeroZealot · 02/03/2026 08:00

KimberleyClark · 02/03/2026 07:19

Losing too much weight by any method will age you. Not just with injections.

Exactly

mydogisthebest · 02/03/2026 07:59

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 02/03/2026 07:54

This. People on WLI who are under 35 look young and fresh… because they are.

Not true. My hairdresser is under 35 and looks dreadful

Sorry but no if it starts a discussion and stops young women abusing weight loss medication that was never developed for them , then it might just save a few lives.

Its almost as if no one wamts to talk about the elephant in the room..

What elephant? That people have eating disorders? That people abuse drugs?

I was initially shocked that people who can afford all the support are abusing WLI, but when you reframe it as drugs- well, people always have.

How about we stop attacking women full stop ? She’s 41 , has battled with eating issues her whole life indoctrinated from her mother and both of them are dealing with the loss of their dad / life long partner. She’s no thinner than most actors / models these days and people need to back off - she’s admitted she is struggling with the grief aspect so why pile on to make her feel worse ? And yes I doubt she will read mumsnet but honestly the constant media criticism must be extremely damaging to her

She IS seeing what's being written about her and posted a response on Sunday morning after the BRITs.

To think it will be revealed WLI cause physical aging
Thesofathatwas · 02/03/2026 07:58

People on WLI under a doctor don’t get regular blood tests either. Neither do most Brits on almost all medications.

mydogisthebest · 02/03/2026 07:58

Just how much is really known about what they are doing to peoples' bodies? I am overweight but would not use them if you paid me. I think nowhere near enough is known about possible side effects.

My hairdresser is obviously using them although she says she is just eating healthily and is starting to look dreadful. Her face is becoming really thin and haggard

HarlanCobenDogshit · 02/03/2026 07:58

It's an old drug with a new use.

Yawn.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 02/03/2026 07:57

BIossomtoes · 02/03/2026 07:56

DancingNotDrowning · 02/03/2026 07:54

There are millions of years of patient data for GLP-1s.

i don’t think you’ll be seeing this es court cases you appear to be gleefully anticipating

None of that data is long term - how can it be with such new drugs? Nobody has any data for the effects after 10/20 years.
