Obviously the pictures of Kelly Osbourne are both sad and terrifying.

But a few women i know have also used this method for weight loss and their skin has lost elasticity. They look at least 10 years older. Is this side effect being under played?

I was prescribed for T2 diabetes too, HbA1c down from 11% (somewhere in the 90s) to 5.2% (non-diabetic and lost a load of weight. But according to some on this thread I might look a bit older now than I did soooooooo yeah. Oh and BP normal, liver and kidney function normal, thyroid tests normal and cholesterol reduced massively, stopped snoring and sleep improved.

Just goes to show we all have different motivators for weight loss. I'm borderline diabetic, high blood pressure....but the reduced snoring might have swayed me to enquire about mounjaro!

I'm on mounjaro for diabetes and am on 12.5. HBA1C has dropped from 55 (diabetes) to 35 (normal/healthy) in 14 months.

I have also lost over 7 stone.

Thank you. And well done! Although totally appreciate you needed it for your diabetes in the first instance..

Take heed the OP's warning re physical aging! (Assume you do count as an ex fatty or maybe you get a pass as having diabetes)

😂😂😂

Yeah but no one cares about your HBA1C, OP just needs to know if you look old or not 😜

Curious.

For those that take MJ for diabetes, what dose are they on?

Anyone know.

And hurling abuse at people who are right and try to explain to them.

Not to worry though, she's read a fluff magazine article with some plastic surgeons who definitely aren't toting for business, so her credentials aren't in any doubt.

The same as for weight loss. Start at 2.5mg and titrate up as necessary. It will vary from person to person as to what works for them.

Ah right. Thank you.

So the same as for weightloss.

So no argument there then, or the OP needs to include all the diebetics in her list of concerns.

There is nothing more delicious than someone like @milkyuniverse getting facts totally wrong, fucking up their point then relentlessly insisting they’re right. It just shows how little they know - and how worthless their opinions and faux concern are.

GLP-1s are NOT off-label. No argument. End.

Wegovy isn't off label. Talking about WLI's as one drug isn't useful.

Fair point. I would imagine more new users are on Wegovy now than was the case before the MJ price hike.

Oh my god, indeed. Licenced and off-label have different meanings.

It is a change of use.

Prior to a few years ago they were only prescribed for type 2 diabetes.

It's not using an existing drug for a totally new purpose. These drugs mimic the hormone Glucagon-like peptide-1. They reduce appetite, slow gastric emptying & improve glucose control. Those effects lead to lower blood sugar in people with Type 2 diabetes and weight loss in people with obesity. It's not some unrelated random finding. Obesity is one of the main risk factors for type 2 diabetes, so there’s a lot of overlap between the two groups anyway.

MyLuckyHelper · 06/03/2026 10:20

Mrsredlipstick · 05/03/2026 15:27

@MyLuckyHelper there are some ongoing trials on reducing alcohol use using GPI drugs
As up thread I only took them for a few weeks and I didn't fancy booze at all. My cousin who is alcohol dependent said the same.

Lots of obese people drink too much (the image of skinny alcoholics is far and few between). Alcohol daily is in the British diet and women are targeted with 'cheeky gins' etc.
Surely that is another benefit for the individual and their wider health?

Yes, of course it's a benefit. I'm not against anyone taking any medication for any condition.

Bearsdolovetrees · 06/03/2026 10:14

likelysuspect · 05/03/2026 14:03

Its not a change of use.

Do you know much about them?

And by the way you know that things like hay fever tablets are sometimes used for MH conditions?

You're worried about that I assume?

I take a low level anti-psychotic to help with sickness from migraines (prochlorperazine). OTC FFS. Where’s all the concern?

HeidiLite · 06/03/2026 07:32

European Medicines Agency authorisation for Mounjaro:

Therapeutic area (MeSH)
Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2
Obesity
Overweight

Authorised in the EU by the European Medicines Agency for two main indications:

  1. Type 2 diabetes
  2. Weight management in adults with:
BMI ≥ 30 (obesity), or BMI ≥ 27 with at least one weight-related condition

It is not used off label for weight loss when used with those indications.

For a peruser of scientific papers, you have a surprisingly low understanding of medical terms.

Wow. I just can’t 😂

DarkForces · 05/03/2026 21:45

milkyuniverse · 05/03/2026 21:29

Oh my god, indeed. Licenced and off-label have different meanings.

'Off-label’ use means that the medicine has a license for treating some conditions, but that the manufacturer of the medicine has not applied for a license for it to be used to treat your condition. See https://www.hey.nhs.uk/patient-leaflet/unlicensed-off-label-medicines/. Here is the information about which glp1s are licensed for weight loss and prescribing criteria. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/glp-1-medicines-for-weight-loss-and-diabetes-what-you-need-to-know/glp-1-medicines-for-weight-loss-and-diabetes-what-you-need-to-know

Prescriptions for weight loss if 30 bmi or 27 with health conditions is not off label. It is not off anything, it is fully approved to be prescribed for obesity,

It’s not aggressive, it’s frustration, you’re posting misinformation and won’t even google to check people are even giving you the links. 😂

it doesn’t matter though, you don’t need to take them. Honestly you really don’t. No one will force you, you’re ok.

we will take em though. 😜

I am really unsure why you are so aggressively reacting to basic statements of facts - given you are one who only reads "the scientific papers", I would have thought you would have been all over the basics.

BillyBand · 05/03/2026 21:29

Oh joy, yet another thread attacking weight loss jabs!
I’d rather be saggy and wrinkly and have vastly improved health markers than carry on being 45+ BMI.
It’s really weird how much people hate that fat people have valid options to lose weight.
If people use it irresponsibly that’s surely on them and their decision? Obviously it’s not great, but plenty of people do bizarre and aging things to themselves in the name of beauty. Meanwhile those using WLIs to genuinely improve their lives and health outcomes can’t win - you’re criticised if you’re fat, and criticised if you lose WLIs even though studies have proven for decades that obese people are unlikely to lose weight and maintain it long term.
