The Green Party in Denton whored themselves out to secure a vote...

The Green Party. A party for women. A party for equality. A party for the rights for gay and trans people.... They ran their campaign on the Gaza stance. To secure the vote of people who go against the majority of their principles.

I am disgusted that British Politics, which is already in the gutter, a party who should champion ethics and morals, has sunk this low.

Surly I cannot be the only one who thinks this way?

If “Matt” hadn’t been rejected he’d be the MP now, wouldn’t he?

This is clearly not the case though as they came second in the vote and got nearly 30% (at 28.7%) compared to the Greens 40%. That is nothing like a rejection.
So over 65% of votes cast being against Reform isn't a rejection? That's Olympic level mental gymnastics 😂.

This wasn't a close contest. You want to believe that the entire 4000+ vote difference between first and 2nd place was 100% down to cheating, and you also want to believe that those Muslim voters whom you collectively suspect of coerced voting would all enthusiastically have voted for Reform? Sorry, but there aren't enough laugh emojis for that.

The fact is that Reform fielded a rubbish candidate who wasn't local, slated Muslims and women and accused a large cohort of the local population of not being British enough. That was really going to make him popular.

They lost. They really need to get over it.

You have a very odd way of framing that. So if you are claiming that every vote for a different party is a rejection for one particular party, so as they only got 40% of the total vote, by your terms, 60% of votes were cast against the Greens.

Do you seriously think that makes sense? Talk about mental gymnastics.

The Reform vote was up 15% on the last election while Labour were down 25%.

The only party being actively rejected there is Labour.

So despite all that (although he is from Manchester) , Matt got 10,578 votes.

Spencer got 14,980 votes.

Labour got 9,364

How are you claiming that Matt was ‘rejected’??

Why would the presiding officer and police lie? Just accept you’re wrong and stop trying to gaslight us.

Obviously the presiding officer and all the police staff involved are Muslims and are in on it.

I note this pp hasn't acknowledged that a 65% vote against Reform is a rejection.

Cyclebabble · 03/03/2026 21:42

I am no Green Party fan, I think their economic policies would bankrupt us. However, they won fairly and squarely. Their pitch on Israel/Palestine is wholly consistent and national. It was not made up purely for this local election. Their candidate a local plumber will appeal to working class voters. There is no one on the current Labour front bench who has ever had a normal full time permanent job. I watched her speech live when she won. What she said on working hard and having nothing to show for it will chime with many.

From the official independent observers:

Democracy Volunteers informed elections staff at Manchester City Council about our findings on Friday and spoke to the Acting Returning Officer before those findings were issued at 10pm on Friday.
Democracy Volunteers contacted Manchester City Council on Friday to discuss our findings. They declined that meeting on Monday.

There have been reports but for some reason the presiding officer and police are claiming there weren’t and the council have refused to discuss it. That is not remotely showing a commitment to free and lawful elections.

We also have a voter coming out of the polling station and literally admitting to doing so called ‘family voting’ on tv. So there’s that.

We know for a fact that there was illegal activity taking place with the voting

We don’t. There’s an investigation underway but no reports to the presiding officer or the police.

You are the one stoking division on these threads by making statements about Muslims which completely lack nuance. Not me.

JustSomeWaferThinHam · 03/03/2026 21:30

pointythings · 03/03/2026 18:50

I am quite opposed to the genocide in Gaza. I also know too many Muslims to believe the scaremongering about how they're all wanting to turn the UK into Iran.

Yes, I’m sure a lot of UK Muslims are very concerned about the Islamists plans for far greater power here.

Some of them have tried to speak out on here and there are number of campaigners on social media. Are you prepared to accept that they have concerns?

Rather than gleefully accusing the people raising issues with the lawful running of this election if sour grapes, why not consider the fact that some Muslims have been denied access to a free and private vote (as the rest of us enjoy in a democracy) by others in their community?

You appear to be lumping all Muslims in together. I am not. I understand that many want the democracy and values of our country but there are others that would deny those things firstly to members of their own community and then to all of us given the opportunity. The Green Party is determined to provide that opportunity.

Well, I just looked at information from the 2021 census. And you are now lumping together Muslims, students and anyone non-white to support your point, which is a bit odd. There's still not a Muslim majority anywhere.

The people of the constituency rejected Reform. That is a fact. There may well have been a strong element of tactical voting - this is a huge problem for Reform, because they are incredibly Marmite (this is me being polite). The way they conduct themselves causes revulsion in a lot of people - it also happened in Caerphilly, where the Labour form collapsed and the migration was to Plaid Cymru. Reform just don't have a broad enough platform among the electorate because so many of their policies are revolting extreme. Their national polling is also starting to slide. This is a good thing because it shows that most British voters are decent and are seeing them for what they are.

You were the one who quoted numbers from only the Denton part of the constituency to support your argument. I provided the figures from the Gorton area with a little more detail. What issue is there with that?

The biggest and actual losers were Labour dropping to third from having 50% of the vote just two years ago. Who knows what would have happened if the voting was actually run within the law?

We know for a fact that there was illegal activity taking place with the voting, someone even admitted doing it on the tv and we also know which demographic it was doing it (the giveaway was observers being told to be ‘culturally sensitive’). The only question is ‘how much’ and how far does the corruption go?

It is a tad bizarre. Zack Polanski was on the Last Leg on Friday and he was treated like he was the second coming.

He’s also not as funny as he thinks he is.

Polanski (and the fawning over him, the type of which you refer) reminds me of Nicola Sturgeon (ie a good orator whom, if he were made of chocolate, would eat himself).

Sturgeon bought her own hype to the point of absolute delusion, and wreaked havoc with her policies. She bulldozed self ID through Holyrood, goodness knows where it would've ended up if Westminster hadn't stepped in.

MetroCas · 03/03/2026 19:21

JasmineMac · 03/03/2026 19:06

The fascinating aspect of it is the frenzy of support they've gained since.

People can regret at their leisure a significant Green representation in Westminster when the effects of their policies are actually felt.

@pointythings read it properly it’s not so much about Gaza but about ignoring of western values to get what you want

To me it reads like suggesting the possibility of compromise. Which is what tactical voting is - holding your nose and voting for the party most likely to keep out the party you really don't want. For instance, it might mean me voting Conservative in my area to keep Reform out, although I am naturally left wing. Tory values absolutely do not align with my own.

It's not evidence that all Muslims in the UK want to turn this country into Iran.

@pointythings that quote is not me that is the Muslim society saying the first paragraph

And? So? The paragraph encourages support for a party that is opposed to the genocide in Gaza. I'm fine with that.

It is not illegal to tell someone how they should vote. Because they can ignore it. You could tell me how to vote, and I would fully ignore you.

It's only illegal if that person then unwillingly votes for a candidate other than the one they prefer. And honestly, if anyone really believes that all these Muslim women and other voters were going to vote for Reform, they're on something.

The point here is that even though we may not always feel comfortable with some of the social values that British political parties and candidates align with, these issues can be overlooked in pursuit of more urgent matters. For instance, protecting our brothers and sisters facing genocide in Gaza, or at the very least reducing harm against them.

Eh? Where are you getting your figures from?

Only Denton is majority white, Gorton is 40% Muslim and overall 60% non white plus a heavy student population. Look it up.

As PP says, the breakdown of voting demographic will be very interesting.

You do know that Labour lost worse than Reform? I’m not sure why you are trying to shut down discussion by repeatedly going on about ‘sour grapes’ - electoral fraud was highlighted by the independent observers.

That Labour has more skin in the game than they will admit means that it is left to Reform to call out electoral fraud which, for our government is a pretty bad look.

Loads of Muslims in this country aren't homophobic or anti women by the way.

On the contrary, the majority of UK Muslims go as far as wanting to outlaw homosexuality.

The majority also want sharia law which is mindblowingly anti women.

Just because people don’t talk about it publicly doesn’t meant it’s not their views.

Majority of Muslims? Thats funny because this study was only conducted with 1000

It may have escaped your notice but Gorton and Denton are very separate areas. You only mentioned the demographic of one area where white people are the majority.

Why did you fail to mention the make up of the other area where white people are a definite minority? It’s a very split constituency.

No, those figures are for the whole constituency. As you’d have seen had you bothered to read the link.

Wheresrebeccabunch · 03/03/2026 17:41

Love that the Greens won. Well done to Hannah and Zack. I’ll be voting tactically to keep reform out, but am hoping that’ll mean a vote for the Greens.

Even your beloved Henry Jackson Society shows the Muslim population of the constituency to be below 30%.

https://henryjacksonsociety.org/religiousdiversity/cgi-bin/seatdetail.py?seat=Gorton%20and%20Denton

And why are you calling it ‘my beloved’ Jackson Society? That’s a bit odd .

It’s just a source on the internet that provides some information. Look up the info for yourself if you don’t like my source - the data doesn’t change.

Heres another source you might like better. It’s a Muslim website celebrating the influence and power of the Muslim vote, plans to increase that and urging Muslims to vote with Islamic principles first and foremost.
They are rather scathing about Labour despite the extreme measures Labour already taken to capture the votes and guiding Muslims on who to choose. It’s interesting.
