While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

Because I think they’re a waste of time and space. If elections are to be monitored - and I absolutely think they should - it should be by people with the power to address any breaches on the spot. I’ve already explained why I think they’re pointless ad nauseum.

You don't see how having police in polling stations can be intimidating?

Especially for voters who intend to vote for an opposition party?

WaryCrow · 28/02/2026 14:59

scottishgirl69 · 28/02/2026 11:38

There's no proof anyone was co erced. It's quite normal to have conversation with family about who you are going to vote for for

It's completely misogynistic to suggest that women were forced to vote Green by their husbands

Would reform be complaining if they had won

It is misogynistic for women to be forced to vote the right way by their husbands yes. Now which religion and which cultures routinely impose this on women and which religion and cultures is the ‘Green’ Party courting like mad?

Yes Democracy Volunteers are allowed inside Polling Stations and are the only organisation accredited to be allowed in (both in the UK and many other countries abroad) aside from the polling station staff, the police and of course the actual voters.

If you believe the impartiality of them then yes they saw what happened, yes they reported what they saw to polling station staff and yes they reported what they saw after the polls had closed because legally they cannot go public with their concerns whilst the polls are open.

If you believe that Democracy Volunteers are not impartial and made up these allegations then the question is what was their motivation and why chose a relatively insignificant by election in Manchester to lie about rather than say a much bigger Presidential election in another country. It doesn't make sense.

I believe they made their observations.

And it has been reported to the police

Underthinker · 28/02/2026 14:57

TopPocketFind · 28/02/2026 14:39

Are they allowed inside the polling station? Did they actually see what happened at the booth, did they see the interaction with clerks/supervisors

Or did they just see family groups enter the station?

How would just watching people walk in and out of a polling station work as election observing???

PortSalutPlease · 28/02/2026 14:49

Marmalademorning · 28/02/2026 02:05

I don’t like all of Reform’s policies, but I would be a LOT more worried about life in the UK if the Greens ever got into power. They are far more extreme than Reform. I can’t understand why anyone with children who have any care for their kids future would ever wish to vote the Greens in.

Because we don’t want our children to grow up thinking it’s ok to be hateful racists who think women only exist to have children….?

Why are people so absolutely desperate to disbelieve them?

TopPocketFind · 28/02/2026 14:39

So do you think that Democracy Volunteers have made up or are lying about the allegations of family voting.

And if so what was their motivation?

Lying and not being impartial are two different things. Aren’t you tired of me repeating myself and giving you the same answer to different phrasing of the same question for endless posts?

But you clearly stated that you think Democracy Volunteers made up the allegations - @scottishgirl69 is happy to openly and honestly state this, so why are you now back tracking and claiming it's actually about what is the point of neutral Electoral Observers.

And if you brave enough to restate your original comment that you think that Democracy Volunteers made up these allegations, then my question is what do think was their motivation?

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 14:20

1dayatatime · 28/02/2026 14:16

No when asked "Do you think that Democracy Volunteers made up these allegations", you replied "Yes I do".

So you clearly think that they are lying and not impartial.

You are now trying to back away from your comment and divert the discussion to what is the point of Electoral Observers. The answer to which is to neutrally observe the conduct of elections.

So do you think that Democracy Volunteers have made up or are lying about the allegations of family voting.

And if so what was their motivation?

Yeah I do. I don't believe there was 25 per cent family voting in Glasgow or 40 per cent in NI as they claimed

1dayatatime · 28/02/2026 14:18

scottishgirl69 · 28/02/2026 12:51

I don't believe it happened either. People are just sore that the Greens won and are using anything to try and undermine the result

Vast swathes of the electorate vote for tories and reform, clearly completely clueless themselves. They're exactly what you call "low information voters".

That would probably depend on whether or not you took responsibility for yourself

1dayatatime · 28/02/2026 14:16

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 10:17

No, I think they’re attempting to justify their existence. That has no bearing on bias or the lack thereof.

So you think there could be up to 60 men at a time attempting this? Seriously?

Don’t be silly - just saying one observer can’t do anything about one booth never mind 10!

So do you think that official observers who have no power to intervene only to observe and report are pointless in general or just at elections.

Do you think that UN Peacekeeping observers are pointless or legal police observers or in scientific studies?

The Green Party should be forced to rename themselves - you only need to read these threads to know that vast swathes of the electorate in the UK are clueless. Someone asked on another thread what the Green Party had to do with the Left ! ......half the idiots think they are still all about hugging pandas

That’s pragmatism for you. It works. But trying that here in the current political climate will just have all the lefties crying about the unfairness of it. Even though in the long run, it’s better for everyone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ireland also benefits by being in the EU.

Anyone doubting the impact of a good strategy need only look at our neighbours, Ireland. Ireland's GDP is now double the UK's. They are getting the tax revenues, through attracting companies with lower Corporation tax.

You can offer to take the kids to Disneyland and everyone can get excited and be really happy.

It's a bit shit though when the reality is you thought the £200 for five holiday to Disneyland was too good to be true, but you paid for it anyway and now you can't get your money bank because the conman running the website has fucked off.

The Green will turn out to be like this.

Absolutely. The Greens aren't stupid. Theyve toned down their open borders rhetoric because they're reading the room. They know they can win over Labour supporters but are conscious re the unrest about immigration. But we all know once they got in they would revert to type. Like all other parties ultimately do.

It’s not unskilled jobs getting squeezed out by AI. It’s a raft of white collar jobs.

I disagree. I work in a bank and thousands of admin jobs are going due to AI. These jobs aren't considered white collar jobs. AI can easily take over data inputting and back office customer roles.

scottishgirl69 · 28/02/2026 13:08

This group apparently accused people in Glasgow of this in 2022 - 25 per cent was the estimate

It seems to be if a group of people walk into a polling booth together it's classed as family voting

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 12:55

climbintheback · 28/02/2026 12:32

how many observers would it take to stop half a dozen men ushering granny and auntie into a booth - and there may be 6-8-10 booths!
