While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

I like Greens. They are a new and improved Labour.

With lots of lovely policies that will cost billions.

And I can't see where they say how they'll pay for them

The Greens in Bristol have been awful - can’t wait to try and get them out next election. Like a PP said they’re no longer bothered about the environment, there was a news story last week about them cutting down three healthy mature trees in the Centre, plus they refuse to debate women’s issues and walk out of meetings instead.

I forgot about the walking out thing, it's just so pathetic. If you can't bear to hear a viewpoint you disagree with and would rather walk out of the room like a stropping teenager, you have no business being anywhere near politics IMO.

Showing such a level of disrespect to the people you were elected to serve, and treating an in person meeting like social media, walking out being the equivalent of the block button.

Robust debate, critical thinking and structured arguments have all but disappeared in favour of echo chambers where you have to agree with every viewpoint or you're evil incarnate Angry

It's more how many experienced competent people they would have to form a government in the extremely unlikely event that they won the GE. The danger (to me) is the Greens will split the votes in a lot of places and let reform in.

Edited

I think at this point we've seen that being an experienced politician doesn't mean competence. I'm more looking for integrity and anti-corruption than experience. I'm hoping it'll be the other way around, and Reform will split the right and let the Greens in!

It's the comment you made about older people thinking the world is coming to an end. That is ageist. In any case, not all older people.

I’m always calling out ageism here (especially ageism against the young) but she didn’t say all old people think like that, and it’s been proven that people do become more fearful as they grow older, hence it’s part of people voting more conservative as they get older.

Wyksister · 27/02/2026 10:27

Greens support men in women’s safe spaces

I can’t vote them in

My point is that this has always been spouted for decades. I don’t why that needs explaining. This thread is so full of people throwing insults and accusing people of being ageist, anti-Semitic, anti-women. Is that all you guys have got? I know the anti Jewish thing worked with JC. Are you all trying it again in the hopes it will work on the Greens? Seems a bit desperate.

You're surprised that I know a lot of people who intend to vote green, on a thread about how greens just won an election? Are you ok?

I for one feel VERY disillusioned by ALL the parties .

I voted Labour in the GE as could not vote another Tory in. However, have been very saddened by the continuation of the too far left decisions that continue to be made !

Some, but not all-
Lifting the 2 child cap
The U turns they have made
NOT doing anything about the welfare cost - PIP
Tax, tax, tax on the middle earners
NHS waits and NO dentists

I WILL turn up in May (suffragettes etc) , but probably spoil my ballot paper !

Come off it, it's an Islamophobic generalisation to make. And ridiculous.

And so what if they - and non-Muslims - voted based for them based on their stance on Palestine? There are worse causes to support than wanting your country to speak up against genocide.

But we desperately need a government that is for British people whatever their race, ethnicity or religion. Palestine is not a British issue. We need a better NHS, cohesive education and a thriving economy. These have to be our priority as a nation, surely?

The problem is that if you have a majority of people who don’t work or couldn’t care less how the country is financed then the people actually paying tax will be effectively disenfranchised. The state can sequester people’s houses/savings/pensions - but this is short-termism as that money won’t last a year.

The Scottish Greens are clamouring for a wealth tax on anyone having assets over £1 million. That would include your house and pension pot.

VaxMerstappen · 27/02/2026 10:18

The Greens used to just be the environment party, now it seems they're becoming the party of the ethnic minority.

It'll probably serve them well politically, but I fail to see how it'll do the country any good. I'm not sure how their policy of open door immigration and the mass house building that'll inevitably result in correlates with caring for the environment, but I suppose they no longer really care about that.

soddingspiderseason · 27/02/2026 10:17

Its a by election? Hardly the arrival of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

I've heard very very little what is "green" about the Greens. The environment seems to have gone out of the window.

Also not a fan of the way they'd like no holds barred, self id for pervert men to enjoy unfettered access to single sex women and girls spaces.

Captain Hypno-tits gives me the creeps also, he just seems so smarmy. Don't know why, but even if that's just me judging his mannerisms etc, the hypnosis your boobs thing is just eurgh.

LiftAndCoast · 27/02/2026 10:15

Honestly Labour and the Conservatives deserve this. For far too long they've taken people's votes for granted. Now the safe seats aren't safe anymore and they're actually going to have to try to appeal to the electorate. Yes, even the segments of it that they like to look down on.

Otherwise next general election we end up with a Green government and Reform in opposition, or vice versa. If that happens, it's because nobody offered a better alternative.

nomas · 27/02/2026 10:15

HappyFace2025 · 27/02/2026 10:01

Fortunately it is unlikely that we only have two choices to vote for. If that were the case I'd destroy my ballot paper.

Also a valid choice. But if you had to vote to prevent one of those coming into power?

glitterpaperchain · 27/02/2026 10:14

BunfightBetty · 27/02/2026 10:04

Oh God, please don't tell us there are that many people who actually believe they'd be competent to form a government and lead the country?! Does nobody pay any attention to their economic plans, for one thing?

You're surprised that I know a lot of people who intend to vote green, on a thread about how greens just won an election? Are you ok?

Why that one situation and not the situation in Sudan? Or any other conflict zone in the world?

zoemum2006 · 27/02/2026 10:14

I see this as a message to Labour to stop trying to out Reform Reform!

If people want to make immigration their only issue then leave them to it.

Labour need to focus on a hopeful message for young people regarding jobs, training, housing etc.

HappyFace2025 · 27/02/2026 10:14

My issue with Green Party: they no longer give a flying wotsit about the environment. So they should get rid of the Green name.

They want to legalise all drugs with education on drug-taking starting a primary school.

Self-id without question, including in sport.

Open borders aim - but in the meantime welcoming to any migrant + family members, plus house and income provision.

They still very much prioritize the environment among other issues (and if you think inequality and environment aren't related then you're past help) - no idea why you would think that.

I don't fully agree with their drugs stance - but at least they have one. Legalising drugs and actually looking at evidence based solutions to drug problems worked pretty well in Portugal when it was properly funded. In my local town centre the place is absolutely rife with crack heads, and that's while drugs are illegal - we definitely need a new approach to this huge and growing problem which is also driving thousands of young vulnerable teens into county lines. What are other parties' proposed solutions?

ManukaMoneyMaker · 27/02/2026 10:13

plutosache · 27/02/2026 09:55

But radicals of any kind (green and reform) are by definition, radical. I don’t want a radical government. I want a kind of centre party that judges each issue on its merits rather than some stupid fucking unthinking party line.

You might not, but it seems others do. The people demanded more choice and got it. Now we have to see what the people do with all that choice at the ballot box!
