To be annoyed at partner booking a trip…

I have wanted to go away for ages but due partners work we have to wait till June for our main holiday.
Today he texts me saying he has booked 2 nights in Gran Canaria next weekend.
We don’t get there till 5pm Saturday and come home 5pm monday.
What is the point
The flights were only £40 return but still ridiculous
Aibu to be annoyed ?

Most people don’t even have a holiday!!

YANBU - taking unnecessary short haul flights for 1.5 days of 'holiday' is pretty grim when respected scientists are literally begging us to change our habits and take the climate crisis seriously. I'd like my daughter to have a future please.

The plane will make the flight whether the OP’s on it or not.

If you’re that worried about climate change, you shouldn’t have brought a child into the world. The carbon footprint of an entire human being from birth to death is a lot bigger than that of a flight to Gran Canaria but you clearly didn’t give a shit about that.

Waiting till june for your "main" holiday- what a chore! Most people have to wait till summer for their only holiday 🙄. Well i would rather 2 nights 2 day in the sun than another raining weekend at home. Do you realise how spoilt and entitled you sound. I feel sorry for your partner, dont go and let him have a nice weekend by himself

Ablondiebutagoody · 24/02/2026 22:36

How dare he do something nice? The arsehole.

GreyfriarsJobbies · 24/02/2026 22:06

I know it's the thought that counts but...that does sound more bother than it's worth and I'd not want to go either.

sharkstale · 24/02/2026 21:59

Went gc a couple of times last year and I definitely wouldn't want to be doing all that travelling for one full day. The recommendation is now that you get to the airport 3 hours before take off (apparently, as we missed one of our flights and was told we should have been there 3 hrs early 🙄) all in all it's a lot of effort for one day. Although I like pp's suggestion of doing something like sea kayaking on the Sunday. Might as well make the most of it.

I'm with you. Wouldn't go to that shithole if you'd pay me (ditto Alicante, Malaga and other similar).

And it's way too much hassle for 2 nights. Unless you have an airport right on your doorstep. 4 nights minimum for me. Not the fucking Spain which I absolutely hate, though.

What's wrong with Spain? 😂

Shinyhappyapple · 24/02/2026 21:31

Why do you hate Spain @LuciferTheLightBringer?

I would give up my important weekend plans of doing the washing, cleaning the house and cooking my own meals for what will hopefully be a romantic short break organised by someone else, but that’s just me. It would at least give you something to talk about at work on Tuesday and they will think you are fun and carefree

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 24/02/2026 19:04

The absolute bastard, how dare he do something nice.

Luckyingame · 24/02/2026 19:04

Yes, it's crap.
And "spoilt" really wouldn't come to my mind.
Just don't go.

Hollowvoice · 24/02/2026 19:03

I do a 6-7 hour trip each way to see my family for a couple of days so this does not seem unreasonable to me

Wherethecatgone · 24/02/2026 18:57

How far are you from the British airport,, and which resort has he booked? I'd be needing to be very close to the airport and have a very short transfer to the resort. Just been to GC, great, but wouldn't fancy it for just 2 nights.

saltandvinegarpringles · 24/02/2026 18:55

Stay home and be miserable on your own then 🙄

Caitl995 · 24/02/2026 18:54

I often wonder if I’m a weirdo when I see poll results but it sounds dreadful to me. its 4 hours on a cramped plane, likely at least an hour to the airport and you’ve to be there an hour and a half before the flight, plus transfer time to resort! 7.5hrs of travelling twice and airporting for 2 nights, no thank you. I don’t care how miserable I sound, it’s not fun at all.

Shinyhappyapple · 24/02/2026 18:53

It probably depends on how close you are to an airport, and how you feel about flying. To me, it’s quite a lengthy flight for such a short break, and I would prefer somewhere like Alicante or Palma.

The plane is going regardless of OP being in row 22 or not.

NemesisInferior · 24/02/2026 18:49

Yanbu. He didn't discuss where you might want to go and it's a stupid amount of travelling for 1 full day.

Can well understand why it would be annoying.

gingercat02 · 24/02/2026 18:49

That's brilliant. GO! it will be 48h in the sun 🥂🍹🍸

justwantthispaintostop · 24/02/2026 18:31

Didn’t take long 🙄

😂 I was wondering how long it would take… 🙄

Highstool · 24/02/2026 18:44

So you've been moaning about not being able to go away, he's booked the best he can within the confines imposed on him, and you're still moaning...

That said I wouldn’t be impressed if anyone booked anything for me without talking to me first.

PersimmonsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 24/02/2026 18:44

Fark me, some people are ungrateful. I would love a spontaneous couple of nights away like that, especially if someone else has done the planning.

Happyjoe · 24/02/2026 18:40

If it's not instead of June holiday, you're being horrible. Romantic of him and a nice weekend? Long way, but a day feeling the sun on your face - and duty free!

TryingMyBestEveryDay · 24/02/2026 18:39

You’ve wanted to go away for ages, he’s taking you away and you’re complaining. Poor bloke can’t do right for doing wrong in your eyes.
