2 days a week 3 pm finish means I can't do pick up.
3 evenings a week means not being able to do some of our after school clubs / missing bedtime and tea time. I'd also need childcare on those 3 night until 6

So no

AshHeart · 24/02/2026 12:58

It sounds more like an employer wondering if there's likely to be any candidates interested than someone actually working those hours. Maybe I'm cynical.

Flyndo · 24/02/2026 12:57

Would I like it? No, hideous hours. Tonnes of commitment for so few hours of work. But sometimes you have to take what you can get and plenty of families need to work round each other to save on childcare. If it works for you, that's all that matters.

DeQuin · 24/02/2026 12:57

When mine were small I was able to flex my hours (and work from home) and regularly worked 8pm-10pm which meant I could reduce my working hours during the day. I also worked on Saturdays. Was super lucky: but losing early evening is hard when your kids are small, especially if it's nearly every day.

neversaynevereverforever · 24/02/2026 12:56

I wouldn’t like those hours . That’s 5 days a week where you have a commitment but working lees than 12 hours overall .

PinkPhonyClub · 24/02/2026 12:56

I think you’ve posted about this before and how your husband doesn’t like it because he … has to do some parenting of his own child and so moans. Despite you earning your Ft equivalent in these hours.

I work Ft and with commute only get home about 7 on 3 days a week. So to me this sounds fine, you’re home all evening 4 days a week, you get to do school pick ups. Sure if you could tweak hours you would but recollection is you can’t.

As a SAHM I’d love these hours although more so if they could be done from home! So intrigued what kind of work this is! 😅

Same here
Really want to know what it is :)

No nobody wants to work them hours they are shit. And the fact you are saying it pays the same as working 40 hours it means you are either full of shit or its dodgy. You know the saying if something sounds to good to be true its because it is

And as ever…. We’ll never find out what it is…

Icecreamandcoffee · 24/02/2026 12:53

I can see the logic. Basically you work in the afternoon, stop do pick up from school/ snack/ dinner until other parent gets home, then you go back to work whilst other parent does bedtime.

It is a lot of running about for you and means you miss out on bedtime but I can see how you could make it work without having to use any childcare and also allowing time for hobbies/ sorting out life.

I am planning something similar after MAT leave (own family business where we just need a few extra hours but not enough to offer someone useful employment hours).

Jessbow · 24/02/2026 12:53

Two days per week-1 pm-3 pm & 5.15-7.15 pm
One day per week-6 pm-7.30 pm
One day per week-11 am-1 pm-working from home
One child at Primary school

If you could afford to fill the gap between the two shifts twice a week, i think it would be more appealing.
I'd have to live VERY lose to you to want to clock off at 3pm, go home and be back for 5.15- could the 'one day 11am-1pm' work not fill that gap?

Would make it more appealing to me - its too bitty for many people

Holiday24 · 24/02/2026 12:51

Id definitely be happy to work 11.5 hours rather than 36 hours for the same pay!

You're missing 3 evenings a week but your child will be with your husband so there's no need to feel guilty.

Bluebigclouds · 24/02/2026 12:50

Wouldn't be my first choice but if I could work those hours and get the same pay as a full time job it would be amazing....

It doesn't really matter what other people think though. You should still have plenty of time for your child - more than many people so you shouldn't feel guilty.

Ontheroadtonowheregood · 24/02/2026 12:42

I’m talking about people with kids….I said that

Why would women with children be the same homogenous group suited to only one working pattern though? It would work for some and not others.
Many women would rather work while their child was in school than during the evenings and weekend. Plus starting work at 5pm will be quite difficult for childcare for many families.

TeenToTwenties · 24/02/2026 12:48

This is ridiculously cryptic.
If i could earn the same doing those hours as I otherwise could full time then great.
But how?
Even better would be the higher rate of pay but for 9-3 for 2 days.

Magicisuponus · 24/02/2026 12:48

If the choice is to work 11.5 hrs or 37 hrs per week with the same pay, I’d choose 11.5 hrs as long as I enjoyed the role enough

LoveHearts69 · 24/02/2026 12:47

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 24/02/2026 12:47

Are you an employee or freelance associate/contractor?

Do you have a fixed contract, or zero hours?

Can you confirm the salary from this role is equivalent to full time minimum wage/or above (around £36p/h) and it’s not top ups that bring it in line with a full time salary?

All of that would impact on how happy I was with the working hours.

Talkingfrog · 24/02/2026 12:45

I haven't read the full thread, but feel whether other random strangers would work them is irrelevant.

Does the job and do the hours work for you and your family on a practical level?
Eg Would you need to pay for childcare on any of the days?
How long would it take you to get to and from work? ( or would travelling take up as much time as the paid work?)
Are you working now- if so is it better or worse for you in both managing time and money.

If not working now, is there a financial need to work, or do you want to feel you are doing something other than being a mother/housewife ?(assuming you are female).

I would say if it works for you and your family, and you want to do it, then ignore what others would do.

If it doesn't work for you, think of what would work, and whether that is actually a realistic aim, or whether the reality is that what you want won't be offered, so you are taking what you can get ( I also think there isn't wrong in taking what you can get when what you want isn't a realistic option).

canuckup · 24/02/2026 12:45

I personally would hate those hours

I'd rather work the AM and get it over with

Ontheroadtonowheregood · 24/02/2026 12:42

BauhausOfEliott · 24/02/2026 12:31

Asking a bunch of strangers whether they'd like your work hours is a bit weird. Everyone's circumstances are going to be different. Everyone's personal preferences are going to be different. I wouldn't like your work hours because I don't have any kids and I want to earn a full-time salary. How does it help you to know that?

I’m talking about people with kids….I said that

Are you about to try and recruit us all to an MLM?

Sounds like it

Crocsforlife · 24/02/2026 12:42

I would say SW consultant or similar. But you earn depending on how many people attend - so once the class members drop of so will the money

If people would like these hours, particularly with a child

What does it matter where the next unrelated person to you likes these hours Confused
they aren’t doing these hours, so what relevance is it if they would like it?
would you leave the job if they said they didn’t Confused
