Well it all depends on the hourly pay :-) Also your husband will be home to look after the child so I can't see why not. If you need the money then go for it.

It’s all about being away from my children when little

and what is the role? Unless have missed you sharing already?!

Why would you be unreasonable op? You're happy, your kid is taken care of, your partner is happy.

I don't understand what yo u want from this?

To brag you work a few hours for a full time wage and everyone else is wage slave?
Has someone criticised you?
Are you looking to recruit other parents?

If you earn enough money that's fine. Dad's home in the evening so why on earth do you give a toss what a bunch of internet clowns think? If it works for you, it's good.

For the money, are there any jobs for fun or as a hobby

I get all mornings off-take the dogs for a walk, go to pilates and I get two full days off a week, drop my child & pick up every day, but i’m sad I’m missing this section of the day with them

of course there are hobby jobs!

If you loved animals and did a couple of hours dog walking for example.

Or you worked a couple of hours a day but I’d was for a charity you were passionate about.

If you’re doing it for the money the hours are even more nuts. Would be better to work ten hours in one day then you’d be free for the rest of the week

Vestus · 24/02/2026 13:44

I wouldn’t like the constant going to and fro, getting psyched and dressed for work for two hours at a time. I’d rather work two days a week.

There should be a setting on Mumsnet where you get a notification only when the OP answers the question. I can't keep refreshing 😂

Or they have to answer within 3 requests otherwise the post gets taken down!

QueenEthelTheMagnificent · 24/02/2026 13:43

Ok so these are the hours you want childcare for?

No, the 2 hour 'break' in between is rubbish. By the time a person travels back to their home they wouldn't have long before they had to go back to work.

You'd be better off employing from 1-7.15 and getting them to do other things while you're out with your child, ie ironing, light housework.

Come on OP, whats the job please??

Is it only fans ? Or something in the sex industry? Is that why you won’t say lol

GlitchStitch · 24/02/2026 13:36

Yes I would love those hours for a full time salary especially as I'm a lone parent. Unfortunately I have to work 12 hour shifts 3-4 times per week to get my full time pay.

If I wanted part time?

No, I would hate that.

However, I have people who work for me who prefer the afternoon/evening shifts, so it does seem to suit some people.

Twatterati · 24/02/2026 13:27

You get to do every drop off and pick up with time after pick up for a chat, snack etc before DH takes over and you leave and you’ll be back in time for a bedtime story (and maybe more depending on bedtime) and sounds like term time only.

It’s a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and reliant on your DH being home in time and fully on-board with working all day and then doing tea, homework and bedtime. Obviously he should be Ok with finishing work and then parenting his own child, like millions of other parents, but could easily sabotage this if he’s not.

Thats the crux really - not the hours or pay - is he on-board or likely to be a dick about it?

VikingsandDragons · 24/02/2026 13:25

So I used to do sort of similar hours teaching a niche exercise class and I'd imagine a lot of people teaching craft classes do too. My hourly was high as I worked for myself, would have been about 1/4 of that if I worked for a gym on their timetable. End of the day I had to work when there was demand for the service. I did it for about 5 years but ultimately felt like I was missing out on too much with my kids once they were full time in school and I'd rather work more hours when they were already elsewhere than fewer hours but miss the time they wanted to tell me about their day, play games, watch a film, go on a bike ride after tea. I don't regret my decision to work more but also see them more, if I didn't have kids the hours wouldn't bother me.

Dwappy · 24/02/2026 13:21

Another thing to take into consideration is this an employed position of self employed? So you get (for example) 30k a year employed full time with all the benefits like holiday and sick pay and pension vs 30k a year for part time hours but no pension or sick or holiday pay etc. You need to weigh that up as well.

Danikm151 · 24/02/2026 13:18

It all depends on what the work is and what the pay is.

Clefable · 24/02/2026 13:13

Does it matter?

I work three evenings a week which some people on here would hate but it’s amazing for us. We don’t need any wraparound care, we can cover school holidays entirely ourselves without any childcare so we only ever take annual leave to spend time together, not for childcare reasons, I wfh so still get to be part of family life in evenings anyway plus I get to be at home during day for youngest DC and make every single school event. But that’s just our circumstances, for others maybe it wouldn’t work at all 🤷‍♀️

Strangesally20 · 24/02/2026 13:09

No because the hours are incredibly restrictive for such little hours (and assuming little pay!) worked.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/02/2026 13:06

HalzTangz · 24/02/2026 13:03

It doesn't matter whether others would work those hours, what matters is do you want to work those hours? Most seem to be school hours so child care would be low cost unless you have kids not in schools yet, presumably husband could parent for the evening shifts

gldd · 24/02/2026 13:02

How much pension savings can you make working these hours?!

Schoolchoicesucks · 24/02/2026 13:02

Is it "about the same" money because you don't have to pay childcare that you otherwise would if you did 9-5 every day? Or do you actually earn a full-time wage for working those part-time hours?

It wouldn't work for me because those 2 days early evenings would be time missed with young kids getting dinner, supervising homework etc and my DH wouldn't be there to cover that.

If it is the same money because I'm not paying childcare I'd still be down overall because of (potential) lack of career progression and pension.

I'd rather work school hours or say 3 days and use wrap-around care I think if not working FT was an option financially.

Flyndo · 24/02/2026 12:59

I agree @AshHeart . If this is the case they can just advertise and see if they get any takers.

Sounds super annoying but can't quite see the issue as it's a unicorn job that pays crazy well (imagining all sorts now!) and you are barely working. I would hate all the faffing around but if it works for you I can't see the problem.

Suspect it is private tutoring or music lessons as oppossed to ft teaching but honestly who knows.
