Son won't move out!

My son broke up with his gf in December (I posted here about it) he moved in with us. He keeps saying he'll find somewhere soon
But he isn't even looking, he has a good job and savings so can easily afford it

How long is reasonable until we tell him he has to go?

I can remember your thread @OneGreenPoster. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for all of you hasn’t it?

Is there a chance that he needs time with you to recover? Would he be willing to go for a coffee with you? You could them discuss his plans?

He may want to stay with you for say 6 months to give himself time to recover a bit from the breakup.

I always feel it’s much easier to talk to my DC about their plans or any little blips on neutral ground Flowers

Do you have the space to accommodate him, is that the issue? Can’t imagine being that bothered by it, but margins vary of course.

It really hasn’t been that long, and he’s your son. What is your problem?

December 2025? Why are you so desperate to get rid of him?

Ask him. It’s bizarre that you post on here rather than talk to him.

swissrollisntswiss · 21/02/2026 20:27

Since December isn’t that long! What is bothering you about him being there?

SpringingUpAgain · 21/02/2026 20:25

How old is he?

Jeschara · 21/02/2026 20:24

If he causes no issues and oays his way why does he have to go. Could he be saving up fir a mortgage?

Brewtiful · 21/02/2026 20:23

Is he inconveniencing you in some way? It seems very callous to want him to leave so quickly.

Bunnybigears · 21/02/2026 20:21

Why does he have to go? Is he causing you any issues by living there? Is he contributing financially? Do you not get on?
