I’ve bought my mother a beautiful frame from M&S and I’ll get a photo printed slightly closer to the time. Not sure what else to get her to go with it. Maybe some flowers.

I will light a candle as she passed away 3 years ago

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 08/03/2026 08:56

Monthly flower subscription

ShetlandishMum · 08/03/2026 08:53

Flowers.

Frogrex · 08/03/2026 08:52

A local small business is doing decorated iced mum themed biscuits so a box of them and I had seen a nice mug I was going to get her to go with them but at a recent trip to a garden centre she has said “I don’t need any more mugs” 😂🤦‍♀️ so I might get her some flowers instead

My mum died many years ago, so I have noone to buy for anymore. On the Saturday, DD is taking me for dinner and cocktails in Soho. She knows I'd much rather spend time with her than have 'stuff' and she's very generous in spoiling me.

coolcahuna · 08/03/2026 08:38

I've got my mum a posh Italian cake and some prosecco

VamboRools · 08/03/2026 07:50

Even if she wasn't dead, whatever I'd do would never have been enough, so it'd be a card that said something about "all the love you deserve" and something else she could whinge about.

I shall gladly buy some flowers and think of my lovely (also dead) step mother though.

DiscoBeat · 08/03/2026 07:48

She's 85 and not very mobile. A new jigsaw puzzle, a necklace with a magnetic clasp (she has arthritis in her fingers) and a big bunch of flowers. We'll collect her and take her to our house for lunch.

DappledThings · 08/03/2026 07:45

A card. It's not a present day to me.

ACynicalDad · 08/03/2026 07:44

Ordered her a rose, will need to go and plant it!

Iocanepowder · 08/03/2026 07:43

Card and a voucher.

Probably a card, but very begrudgingly and out of a sense of obligation, not love. I hate this part of mothers day.

I'm very envious of all of you who have loving relationships with your mothers.

Edited

Same here. I always joke that I’m off to search for a card for her that says “to a mediocre Mother” or similar. The “best Mum” ones make me sad. She wasn’t terrible but not great either and doesn’t have a great relationship with any of us siblings.

Citygirlrurallife · 08/03/2026 07:31

So sorry to those of you who have lost your mums, it’s lovely that you mark the day still

i invited my mum and dad over for lunch then we’re going for tea and cake at a local country Manor House we’ve not been to before. I have a card for her and usually do flowers but I might get her a book instead this year. One of DD’s friends is staying over the night before so not sure how much attention I’ll get from my two but a card and a Bunch of flowers and not even thinking about cooking or washing up is all I’m happy with. DD usually makes a card which is lovely

Mu mother died years ago.
She had never wanted children and I was an accidental pregnancy before abortion was legal. Mother's Day was not marked in our house.

I've never really cared about the day and my kids don't mark it.

Evergreen21 · 07/03/2026 22:57

I picked up a card for mum, kids made their nan a card and then I bought some biscuits from them. I picked up a beauty edit from Cult beauty and 2 new pairs of sandals for Spring/Summer for her.

For mil we have a card from us, kids have made a card. She will get flowers from the kids. Dh has got her an Elizabeth Scarlett a makeup bag and I've bought her some skincare from the Organic Pharmacy to go in it.

Pumpkinmagic · 21/02/2026 08:10

A card

BeaLola · 21/02/2026 07:32

My lovely Mum died 25 years ago. So sorry for those on this thread who have also lost Mums, especially those navigating recent bereavements.

Every Mothers Day & her birthday since I buy some lovely flowers & have them in my lounge.

redfairy · 21/02/2026 07:25

I'll most likely take mum to a garden centre or cafe for an afternoon tea and treat her to something for her beloved garden. Not original but we don't spend as much time together as we used to so it will be appreciated.

NotMeAtAll · 21/02/2026 04:36

My mother detested the very idea of Mother's Day. She died the week before it (a good few years ago), and I can imagine her laughing at the irony. 🙂

I used to buy perfumes I thought she'd like, but the date wasn't significant.

Rosealea · 21/02/2026 03:58

Absolutely nothing. It's a commercial rip off and a total waste of time and money

CloseEncountersOfTheLoveKind · 21/02/2026 03:53

My dear mum, whom I lost some years ago, always said that she the gift she most loved was spending time with me.
Maybe at a restaurant or a cinema/theatre visit together.
She said that in her post seventy years, she’d had enough “things” from her children over the years, that she would always treasure, but that time with her children was priceless.

I appreciate that if you live too far for a visit, it’s impossible, but I’m just explaining my experience.

Love can be expressed in many ways, and not everyone views it the same.

Alas, these in these days of social media,I might be lucky enough to get a mention on Facebook.
An old fashioned handwritten card delivered via snailmail would be wonderful, but I guess time and trends move on and I’m left wishing for what the youngsters now see as ancient history.

LoomBandLod · 21/02/2026 03:31

A card, as usual.

This will be my second year without my mum. It’s horrible, losing your mum is somehow a whole different level of grief. I have a rose garden in a corner of my garden that I planted for her, her ashes are scattered there. She has a bench and a small garden table. I’ll put a bunch of her favourite spring flowers there and have a cuppa with her as I often do.
on a brighter note, my eldest dd has bought tickets for her and me to visit the Tower of London followed by a three course meal which I’m really excited about.

This is what I'm wanting to do this year, get outside sorted out so that I have somewhere to sit and remember her with some flowers and seating.
(Still feels bizarre writing it out, still can't compute on some level that she's not here with it happening so unexpectedly and suddenly last year)
