…to suggest that it’s time the Royal family stands on its own feet and stops taking money from the public purse?

The Royal family owns and has access to lots of money, land and property. So is it right that they should to take any more money away from us?

Please can you provide a legitimate source that they are a benefit to the tax payer? Not a chat gpt answer..I'm seriously very interested. If you are able to provide a legitimate source, I'll bow out gracefully.

Two words that have significant benefit to the British tax payer - soft power.

But the pitchfork republicans on this thread won’t think further than the end of their nose when it comes to the RF. They’re people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Don't technology shame alongside you royalist biases

Technology shame?! that’s a new one!

If I did use chatgpt it wouldn't be less of an answer. Don't technology shame alongside you royalist biases. You can yourself use goole or chat gpt to ask that exact question. Just do that five second job.

Edited

By definition ChatGPT cannot give you a reliable answer for information held secret. That is not how it works.

Nah, off with their heads 🤣

I used to like the pomp and circumstance but I and many older people now see through them. I have a grandchild and I hate that they will pay for George, Charlotte and Louis just like I, my parents and grandparents have paid all our lives towards their ancestors. They perpetuate the rotten class system in this country.
Prince Philip’s and Charles’ shenanigans, sealed wills when they die, the exemption from environmental and equality laws (and others) but above all the 12 million paid out to protect AMW. Where was the honour, integrity and duty there?
In addition, they have had the best education that money can buy but have not cured cancer, solved homelessness or shown any strategic leadership but they do make sure that their names are attached to projects. W and K seem to pop up every now and again just before they go on another holiday. None of them has shown any leadership and they certainly do not run the country. They are rinsing the country.

This 100%

I would have completely agreed with you @Katypp , until a few months ago, when politicians of all sides, journalists, constitutional ‘experts’ etc etc, were repeating ad nauseum about how it would be a constitutional impossibility for Andrew to have his Prince title removed. And then, bang, overnight it went (apparently after Charles had been heckled on a walkabout.)
Your post is measured, but I do hope some people in the corridors of power are at least thinking about how a bloodless revolution could happen, because even I don’t want to see heads on pikes…and at the moment the fury against Andrew (and by association his family) is only growing.
A good start would be allowing our elected representatives to finally be able to discuss the RF in the House of Commons.

Absolutely this!

I do not accept the ‘it’s too difficult to get rid of the Windsors’ line
An act of Parliament- just as happened with relative ease in 1936 to get rid of the Nazi king .
Suddenly the previously impossible was possible….

But start with stopping the financial rip off.
The Windsors must pay all taxes due - yes inheritance tax too just like the rest of us .
Make the Duchys part of the crown estate as was always intended and rename the crown estate the national estate to make its status clearer for the more hard of thinking .

I have a feeling that once their hoarded billions start being dipped into and once they are no longer above the law the Windsors themselves will walk away . And somehow we will manage - even thrive - without them

waterbobble · 21/02/2026 08:49

I don’t understand why William (who is meant to be the more modern face of the firm) has broken his fathers tradition & not revealed how much tax he has paid.

£86.3M cost to taxpayer
£1.8Bn income to the UK economy

Rough order of magnitude but the income would have to be less before I chose to withdraw my £1.29 contribution.

I agree

How original OP, that's only been done 1,000 timers in the past few days

YABU for not posting this interminable stuff on the RF board

I agree with you OP. Stop the money and make them pay all back taxes due .

And as for @KaleidoscopeSmile - I strongly disagree
The pedophile and pedophile protector scandals ( yes it’s more than Andrew ) affect us all.

Leave the people who think Meghan is worse than Andrew because her jam is runny to the royal threads by all means .

The Windsor financial rip off affects us all too
The Windsors should be debated everywhere - better still give us a say in whether we will
continue to tolerate them .

We agree then..

Well we agree on that, we don’t agree on whether the UK should be a republic or not.

The peasants outside the gate are waking up folks!

I hope those inside the gates are taking note.....

I for one want their wills unsealed NOW. I'd dine on the contents for years, happily 😊

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 08:12

I agree completely.

I’m just realistic in knowing we can’t force people to work and provide constitutional functions for free.

We agree then..

Ihateboris · 21/02/2026 08:08

I believe that if tax payers fund the lavish lifestyles of the Royals, then they should be absolutely fully transparent about their finances. I also believe that if I, who earns just over minimum wage working 45 hours a week, pays tax, then so should they.
I also don't agree with funding them as I, personally, don't benefit in any way, shape or form.

PersephoneParlormaid · 21/02/2026 07:55

The King/Queen is the head of the C of E church, and the church has lots of assets, so maybe they can chip in.

Asking the Church to fund a constitutional matter would defeat the point of separation of powers, wouldn’t it?

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 07:57

So now whether people should be paid to do a job of work, if publicly funded, should depend on the value of their assets etc?

You are now just being obtuse.

BananaPeels · 20/02/2026 18:09

The royal family costs £1.29 per person per year. Is that really that bad?

Me and my family will graciously accept just 70 p from every taxpayer in the land. 50%.off, total bargain. What do you say?

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 07:52

Ihateboris · 21/02/2026 07:48

Because they can afford to fund themselves.

Oaktree1952 · 20/02/2026 17:57

I would much rather pay for King Charles and the royal family than Kier Starmer and any other prime minister and definitely more than a president.

Would you rather pay for King Andrew or President David Attenborough? If Charles or Di were infertile Andrew would be next in line and probably king in 5 years.

Ihateboris · 21/02/2026 07:48

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 07:45

Why should they? We’re asking them to make their lives and homes publicly property. They’re harassed 24/7, photographed 24/7, expected to turn up to charity events and functions 24/7, the Queen even woke up to a madman sat on her bed. They carry out a constitutional function we expect of them, so why wouldn’t we fund them?

Should the Prime Minister fund himself too?

Because they can afford to fund themselves.

Playingvideogames · 21/02/2026 07:47

Ihateboris · 21/02/2026 07:45

I'd like to know, because I am a tax payer.

I definitely think we need financial transparency, and not to exempt them from tax laws etc - don’t get me wrong. Basically I want some financial reform, but not to kick them out completely.
