Despite his villainous behaviour, anyone feel a teeny bit sorry for Andrew?

Before I get totally flamed, I despise his attitude, and the things he appears to have done - particularly the subsequent lying and apparent determination to shield/ hide misdemeanours. However, seeing the photo of his release today looking a broken man after such huge public downfall , plus thinking of him going back to an empty house on his birthday with no family support - even though I initially felt he deserves every indignity and consequence - there’s still a teeny part of me that just can’t help feeling just a little bit sorry for him. If it’s true that he was taken to a brothel at age 11 , whilst it would in no way excuse abusing others , it means he has also been a victim of abuse. Additionally it seems the Queen and his entourage have never ever said no to him in his whole life- so to reach his 7th decade before any consequences hit makes me question how resilient he will be able to be. Obviously main sympathies are always rightly with any victims , but even the most hardened and perpetual criminals often retain family support, he seems to have nobody. ( albeit if his own making ) or am I just being too soft?!

well look at all the support there was for George Floyd, and yet his criminal activities etc

Crimes he served time for. Not sure he deserved to be executed on the street. What an odd comparison to make!

Womaninhouse17 · 19/02/2026 23:06

Not at all sorry for him. As for the 'going back to an empty house' nonsense - a massive free house he hasn't had to pay for! He's had all the advantages handed to him on a plate but he's so arrogant (see the Emily Maitliss interview) that he thought he could do what he liked.

I would 100% believe he could have thought that, yes. He’s always seemed to have a very healthy ego, and has spent all his life being told how special and wonderful he is.

I also think that a lot of men when very young think that women think about sex the way men themselves do, which is to say they are up for it all the time.

Normal men figure out quickly that most women are not like that. But when you are a prince, or in a famous rock band, it seems like sometimes they never make that discovery.

OneBadKitty · 19/02/2026 23:05

I think he's a very misguided individual who has lived a life in circles most of us can't even comprehend and he's now being made the scapegoat for a whole seedy world in which he played only a small part. I don't feel sorry for him but I do feel others should be exposed also.

Today's arrest is unlikely to have much to do with the epstein case and more to do with his misconduct in relation to government information.

Calling him a peadophile and a rapist is unhelpful language when it's really not proven that he's either of these things.

TheRuffleandthePearl · 19/02/2026 23:05

I never feel sorry for paedophilic rapists, no. The arrest for misconduct in public office is like Al Capone being arrested for tax evasion. We all know what else he did, scummy bastard.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 19/02/2026 23:05

I don't feel sorry for him no, but I don't like to see anyone looking shocked/sad/worried or whatever. I kind of get what you mean because, I don't know, i hate seeing people vulnerable. But, he did awful things to vulnerable people so I can't feel for him.

I suspect, very soon he'll have an unexpected heart attack or stroke. His life is over whatever way and he'll have reaped what he's sown. FAFO

He hasnt been arrested for sex offences its misconduct in public office

This x 1000. Why are so many people commenting that he is the only one facing any legal consequences for the abuse of girls and young women when he was arrested for his alleged actions while Trade Envoy, I am sure the entitled fool thought he was above the law when he shared state secrets with his pal Epstein, thick and arrogant is a terrible combination.

What is it a massive cover up for?

Thrown to the wolves is a bit much. He has milked his position, been utterly cosseted and had so many opportunities. He was even given a TV interview PR spin attempt but he made a complete hash of it. He's been arrested because they think he's committed a crime. Do you think he shouldn't have been arrested for a crime the's thought to have committed just because he served his country?

Dietcokey · 19/02/2026 23:04

I feel sorry for him in that he is being punished far more than many others who did as bad or worse than him.

I also feel sorry for him in that he is now on the receiving end of a lot of holier than though moralising and witch-hunting.

And I also feel sorry for him because I suspect his behaviour was down to thoughtlessness and entitlement rather than genuine evilness.

I can sort of empathise with someone doing stupid stuff to try and fit in.

And of course he did serve in the Falklands in some pretty dangerous roles, so he's not all bad.

But clearly sympathies extends only as far as wanting him to be treated fairly. No more or less. My sympathies with the victims of sex trafficking and abuse run much deeper.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 19/02/2026 23:04

About as much sympathy as he’s shown his victims really. He managed to live a long and privileged life before facing accountability so I think he’s been rather lucky. He did look broken though. I suspect he’s far too weak to ride this out for much longer and will go the same way Epstein did.

First thing my mum said was she feels sorry for him.
But she often downplays bad men doing bad things.

i would said bad humans do bad things, look at catherine the great and other historical females that went rogue

TempestTost · 19/02/2026 23:03

I find it possible to feel simultaneously like someone has got what they deserved, or reaped the consequences of their own behaviour, and a sort of sadness at the same time - the latter is a sort of existential human sadness about the fact that things can go so wrong in people's lives.

I suspect he was the kind of kid who had a very appealing and charming personality, and was therefore allowed to get away with a lot, and it hasn't in the end been good for him.

No and I saw on one of the news channels someone saying we need to be careful of his mental health. No we fucking don't he has never considered anyone else in his entire life.
Wouldn't bother me if he decided to not carry on.

do you consider the same logic to the general public ?

You think he thought she was willingly there to shag him because he was so irresistible?

I would 100% believe he could have thought that, yes. He’s always seemed to have a very healthy ego, and has spent all his life being told how special and wonderful he is.

Lavender14 · 19/02/2026 22:59

Not even a little op.

Emma6cat · 19/02/2026 22:59

I bet he wishes he could turn back the clock.

Bloodyscarymary · 19/02/2026 22:59

I do feel a bit sorry for him too. He just seems to be the fall guy and I find it hard to get worked up about his crimes against what else is going on in the world. He’s already not a prince anymore, I just feel like meh, surely there are better uses of police time than this?

I also find it annoying that we are focusing SO MUCH on this dodgy old dude when there are much much MUCH more important things to be focusing on!

E.g., the rampant corruption in the US, the fact that people are still trapped in apartments with flammable cladding, how do we save democracy, the fact that we are experiencing a mass extinction of various species, ecosystem collapse… or even good news stories about interesting scientific advancements - nope it’s just wall to wall Andrew.

Sunbeam01 · 19/02/2026 22:58

AgentPidge · 19/02/2026 22:36

It's not really the fact that she was 17 - it's that she was forced into it. Trafficked.

Neither of those things actually mean he’s a paedophile, though, which is a person sexually attracted to prepubescent children. He certainly may be guilty of rape.

Blackberrys1 · 19/02/2026 22:58

His poor victims. I have daughters.
Its heartbreaking.
They were only babies and used by vile scum.
The Queen paid 12 million to cover up his actions abusing a child.
So disappointed in her, foolishly disappointed.
They all knew well what he was up to.
Utterly shameful.

Scout2016 · 19/02/2026 22:57

He's being done on dodgy dealing, not for sex offences. What does that tell us about police priorities? Years of sexual abuse allegations and nothing. Something involving money and in they go.

I feel for the victims, their families and for Andrew's daughters and grandchildren. I am utterly disgusted by all the men who have said nothing. The men who could come forward to say what they saw and heard and help with prosecutions. There will be hundreds if not thousands. Not one has stepped out. There must have been at least one bloke who could claim they were just a fly on the wall, who did nothing but witnessed something. Where are they? They could do that to help the victims but won't. Utterly cretinous scumbags, Andrew included.

FloofyKat · 19/02/2026 22:57

No sympathy. He is spoilt, indulged, rude, arrogant and very entitled. Thought he was untouchable. I’ve seen no evidence of care, compassion or empathy.
