Despite his villainous behaviour, anyone feel a teeny bit sorry for Andrew?

Before I get totally flamed, I despise his attitude, and the things he appears to have done - particularly the subsequent lying and apparent determination to shield/ hide misdemeanours. However, seeing the photo of his release today looking a broken man after such huge public downfall , plus thinking of him going back to an empty house on his birthday with no family support - even though I initially felt he deserves every indignity and consequence - there’s still a teeny part of me that just can’t help feeling just a little bit sorry for him. If it’s true that he was taken to a brothel at age 11 , whilst it would in no way excuse abusing others , it means he has also been a victim of abuse. Additionally it seems the Queen and his entourage have never ever said no to him in his whole life- so to reach his 7th decade before any consequences hit makes me question how resilient he will be able to be. Obviously main sympathies are always rightly with any victims , but even the most hardened and perpetual criminals often retain family support, he seems to have nobody. ( albeit if his own making ) or am I just being too soft?!

They weren’t children.

Many of them were actual children and, sickenly, there is evidence in the Epstein files of rape and sexual abuse of babies and the victims that were older were trafficked.

This is an absolutely wild take. No.

This.

Dazedandconfused28 · 20/02/2026 05:24

I do & it's something I challenge in myself & often wonder why I feel sorry for people who do terrible things.

Also why I didn't report the person who assaulted me when I was a teenager - he was a nice, charming, generous man & I couldn't bear to be his undoing (amongst other reasons) I knew the guilt would consume me. I think it might be part of how I was brought up, to never challenge or upset anyone.

PhaseFour · 20/02/2026 05:20

It will be tragic if AMW is not charged for the abuse of VG and any other trafficked women he abused. Obviously, I hope he gets charged and convicted for the misconduct in public office offences, but I sincerely hope that there is enough evidence in the Epstein files for the charges that someone upthread appeared to refer to as misdemeanors 🤯. If Gislaine Maxwell is the only person to serve time for all of the abhorent abuse, then society is doomed.

So paedophiles aren't really paedophiles even if they have raped underage children and girls unless they have been convicted in a court of law? What about children raped by their fathers? So many of them are too scared of the consequences if they go to the police, e.g. being disowned by their whole families, so in your opinion the lack of a conviction means that these men aren't really paedophiles at all?

There is a lot of mental gymnastics going on to make what Andrew did ok by the minimisers and apologists. They’re all over threads talking nonsense. Thankfully most people are sensible and can see what’s going on. 👀

hattie43 · 20/02/2026 05:17

I think he must be as thick as pig shit to not realise this would all come down on him like a ton of bricks . He has lived a guilded life with no consequences for anything and by all accounts is vile to other people so no I don’t have empathy . He needs to disappear forever whether that be exile or jail . Having said that his wife should join him .

SunnyKoala · 20/02/2026 05:17

I always try to keep a shred of compassion for everyone. It's a good human trait to have for both you and for humanity.

Autumngirl5 · 20/02/2026 05:09

They weren’t children.

Adults are 18+.

Virginia was 17, a child.

She was trafficked.

I think he should be imprisoned in the Tower of London and become a tourist attraction. He wouldn't know anything was wrong. He could keep his teddies.

I didn't think there would be anything to find amusing on this thread. Thanks @ITMA2000!

Absolutely not a single shred of sympathy for AMW, here. He's a disgusting human being.

If I had my way, there would be no royal family at all. Their priviledge sickens me.

The way they pretend they are serving us sickens me (Charles even alluded to this in his statement yesterday).

The way the press refer to the ones who "work" as working royals sickens me - if walking into a building, smiling, nodding, feigning interest and shaking the odd hand is "work," where do I sign up?

Disband / overthrow (or whatever the term would be) the royal family and let them pay tax like the rest of us! Those who continue to be conned into thinking they are good for our country, value for money and something to be proud of need to give their head a wobble.

Do you usually feel bad for those who abuse children?

They weren’t children.

but andrew was never convicted of it, so therefore he is not

pestowithwalnuts · 20/02/2026 04:54

Ridiculous..of course I don't feel sorry for him.
Karma has thankfully come to bite his sorry arse and it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person

QuietPiggy · 20/02/2026 04:53

FairKoala · 20/02/2026 02:05

What has he been charged with?

He has not been charged with anything. He has been released under investigation, which means that the police are still collecting evidence. He may or may not be charged when the investigation is complete.

TortoiseshellNell · 20/02/2026 00:18

I feel the man has been punished enough. He’s lost everything that counts - reputation, family, friends, purpose. He is a broken shell.

I know he did bad stuff but I see he is in a very dark place - and instinctively, I feel sorry for him - for his upbringing that made him arrogant and entitled, for his stupidity and total lack of judgement.

At the same time I absolutely recognise how much his victims have suffered. It’s a sad, sad situation.

I feel the man has been punished enough.

No, he has not, and I doubt that he ever will be.

I'm glad that you left the UK too. One less paedophile excuser and victim blamer is to be celebrated.

Anyone referring to trafficked and sexuallly abused girls and women as 'females' is such a red flag.

As for Andrew being a 'delightful' young man. He has always been an arrogant shit but he was fairly handsome for a short period of time so his behaviour was excused. He managed to find a wife who is as loathsome and entitled as he is. His downfall is thoroughly deserved.

CrazyGoatLady · 20/02/2026 04:32

Not one bit. He won't even face a fraction of the consequences a person without his privilege and protection would. But he should face what music he has to face. Plenty of people in the world are brought up by emotionally constipated parents who compensate with money and indulgence and they don't end up befriending paedophiles and become sex offenders.

thepariscrimefiles · 20/02/2026 04:28

Heatedrival · 19/02/2026 22:01

No.

He treated people appallingly.
He Is thoroughly unpleasant. A close relative of mine was one of his protection officers. He is incredibly discreet and I’ve never heard him swear but he has only ever referred to Andrew as c*.

That doesn't surprise me at all. There are so many stories about his rudeness and dismissive behaviour towards anyone who he doesn't deem rich enough or aristocratic enough to deserve any acknowledgement or courtesy from him.

Catladywithacat · 20/02/2026 04:18

Cyclebabble · 20/02/2026 04:05

A child abusing nonce who deserves everything coming to him. He would be out there still abusing vulnerable girls if Epstein had not been caught.

Glitterella · 20/02/2026 03:50

I don’t feel sorry for him at all. I think a better word is pity but this also seems a bit too empathetic. His downfall is deeply deserved and all I can see when I look at him is a disgusting gross slimy man who has fallen on his own sword. A spoiled brat getting everything he deserves. I understand your emotion OP but I don’t think what you are feeling for him is ‘sorry’….

Marmalade71 · 20/02/2026 03:23

Only in a whataboutery sense. He must wonder why he has been taken down by his relationship with Epstein and his appalling behaviour but why has no one else? Even Mandleson has not been arrested.
But actual direct sympathy for him, no. He has to own what he did.

Dorisbonson · 20/02/2026 03:13

Zero sympathy. Other royals had same upbringing and didn't turn out like him.

Hope he shares a cell with some big bloke who fancies him.

IDontHateRainbows · 20/02/2026 03:05

ThiagoJones · 19/02/2026 22:39

You think he thought she was willingly there to shag him because he was so irresistible?

I mean that probably is what the entitled pompous git thought yes, not that it excuses him

graygoose · 20/02/2026 02:50

Taking a step back (not that we should have to but here it is): this is man who is a member of the most powerful family in Britain, one of the most powerful families in the world with a lineage of rule (for the better or worse) going back 1,000 years.

He knew his position. He became a trade envoy on the basis of no qualifications or aptitude other than his mummy. He used that position to personally enrich himself, accepted money from a convicted paedophile, and freely befriended said paedophile to gain access to children. Because that's what these girls were - children.

He truly thought himself above the law. Even if someone you had known personally for many years did this, would have it in you to feel sorry for them? You are a more empathetic person than me, OP. I don't even think King Charles feels sorry for his brother.

The RF has a history of second children not doing well. But neither Princess Margaret nor Prince Harry used their position to exploit and sexually abuse children (at least that we know of). This is someone who was given the world and used their privilege to partake in the sickest, most selfish awful shit imaginable. Bin. Prison.

rainandshine38 · 20/02/2026 02:44

Er no! You weirdo!
