Despite his villainous behaviour, anyone feel a teeny bit sorry for Andrew?

Before I get totally flamed, I despise his attitude, and the things he appears to have done - particularly the subsequent lying and apparent determination to shield/ hide misdemeanours. However, seeing the photo of his release today looking a broken man after such huge public downfall , plus thinking of him going back to an empty house on his birthday with no family support - even though I initially felt he deserves every indignity and consequence - there’s still a teeny part of me that just can’t help feeling just a little bit sorry for him. If it’s true that he was taken to a brothel at age 11 , whilst it would in no way excuse abusing others , it means he has also been a victim of abuse. Additionally it seems the Queen and his entourage have never ever said no to him in his whole life- so to reach his 7th decade before any consequences hit makes me question how resilient he will be able to be. Obviously main sympathies are always rightly with any victims , but even the most hardened and perpetual criminals often retain family support, he seems to have nobody. ( albeit if his own making ) or am I just being too soft?!

No sympathy.

MyDeftDuck · 20/02/2026 07:42

As a victim of sexual abuse and assault………..absolutely NOT!

Sartre · 20/02/2026 07:38

Fergie, is that you?

DabOfPistachio · 20/02/2026 07:37

Not even a little bit. He is an adult, a man in his sixties who has had every resource, every opportunity. We can feel sorry for the child but that child grew into an adult responsible for his own actions.
Until recently, he was smugly grinning at reporters, clearly confident he couldn't be touched. He is not only in a bed of his own making, but it's still a double poster gilt framed one.
That photograph is of an extremely arrogant and nasty man realising that actually he might have to face the consequences of his actions.
Even if he were convicted of every single crime he is speculated to have committed and goes to prison, he still won't be going in with the general population because of who he was born. Privilege is going to follow him for the rest of his life.

You are unusually kind and humane OP. I don’t think there are many with any sympathy for him especially as he was handed everything on a plate. But I also think it’s a good thing to be able to see people still as human even when they have done terrible things to others (allegedly). It’s fundamental to our justice system and to our social contract really.

I agree with this. I think you have to be able to both want to see justice done, and hold onto the humanity of the perpetrator. The more I have lived, especially in the past ten years, the more convinced of this I am. Dehumanizing the ‘perpetrator’ ( and I’m using this widely here to include those you disagree with or you think have done something wrong) leads to atrocities and massacres. It’s always important to hold in mind justice not vengeance.

Twattergy · 20/02/2026 07:36

Even royal fans have long called Andrew a pompous arrogant prick. So no.

WittyTaupeFox · 20/02/2026 07:36

he has plenty of people to support him (either paid or his many friends)

he probably also has plenty of money from his various overseas dealings and inheritances.

all this - no money and being alone rhetoric is nonsense.

spend any amount of time around these people and you’ll see the scales fall away and the true reality - immense privilege.

do they all think we the public are idiots. And still King Charles doesn’t address “his” nation.

I am a lifelong royalist who would vote their abolishment today as a result of this nasty exposure which started 15 years ago.

JuliettaCaeser · 20/02/2026 07:35

What blows my mind is he was born with every advantage. All he had to do was be broadly decent like pretty much everyone I know is. But he couldnt even manage that.
Absolutely pathetic.

AFrogInABog · 20/02/2026 07:31

No, none whatsoever. I’m angry that he has been protected for so long and that this hasn’t happened sooner. He should be in prison.

I'm not sure about that. Her dad abused her a a child, she was living with another abuser before Epstein - Ron? - and Epstein made her do a lot more with a lot more people than Andrew, who at least she did say was nice when they had sex. I mean, it's horrible that they had sex, but at least he wasn't rough like some of the others were. And she had lost custody of her kids when she did it. I suspect it was due to all the terrible things that had happened to her throughout her life, not necessarily because of Andrew. Considering all the awful things that befell her, I expect Andrew was the least of her worries.

Oh - and she harboured terrible guilt about recruiting other girls for Epstein. That could also have played a role.

Edited

I understand why you think and say this but it also chills me to the bone. You think that her experience wasn't horrific because he apparently wasn't rough? Having to go through with it, knowing you have no agency or capacity to say no is somehow 'better' because your rapist isn't rough? It's views like this that add to the difficulty of getting people/the police/juries to believe victims.

FFS OP - when i went to the police and reported the man that raped me my father told me I was ruining a man's life for something I couldn't change and to think about his future instead of revenge.
You sound just like him. You reap what you sow and considering some of the reporting from mainstream newspapers suggest tue FBI are investigating if he was watching an 8 year old girl tortured with electric shocks I hope he gets exactly that.

You were very brave and well done for advocating for yourself. Your father is a cunt.

hepsitemiz · 20/02/2026 07:25

My addict brother says AMW is “obviously suffering from an addiction” and “needs help”.

My position is he’s not suffering anywhere near enough.

No sympathy therefore.

That said, with this latest disgrace I am taking less ghoulish delight in his downfall. I am just glad that the justice system seems to be getting into gear. A suivre!

If it was a random bloke down the road, would you feel sorry for him?

Righttherights · 20/02/2026 07:19

Not in a million years. Sexual predator exploiting young girls. Hidden behind privilege. Deserves everything he gets- which unfortunately probably won’t happen. Feel sorry for his daughters but not him.

TimeForATerf · 20/02/2026 07:06

Of course I can compare their entitlement. I never said Harry was a user of women, just that he was entitled, he, like Andrew has no idea of the real world and how real people live.

And yet he left. He left the entitled family and moved on without them.
Hell of a difference between someone being so entitled they molested women and children and someone feeling entitled to... Go low contact with his birth family despite the privilege he'd grown up in and start trying to find out about the world outside the castle gates.

Big difference in Andrew potentially watching children tortured and harry. Wanting the press not to print his children's faces.

If you really think they are 'as bad as each other' I'd have to question your judgement

CossyBunt · 20/02/2026 07:16

I think this terrible situation should be a massive wake up call for those who fawn and pander around revolving people in positions of power. Especially those who obtained power through inherited titles and didn’t earn it any way whatsoever and who abuse people.

Strngerthings · 19/02/2026 23:25

well when you read the rest of the comments about andrew, then how if andrew was and has paid the price for anything he was guilty of but your words "Crimes he served time for" so as far as im aware andrew is innocent of all charges so why the difference ?

Literally no idea what you are trying to say! Sorry just not getting the connection or point you are trying to make here. Never mind though I’m not that invested in whether people sympathise with Andrew or not!

Twoholesonwhite · 20/02/2026 07:11

I do actually. I both think it’s just what is happening to him, and can feel a tiny bit of empathy for him on a human level. My empathetic brain is still able to imagine what he must be feeling. Even if he deserves it ( assuming he’s guilty).

I also think the Royal family is an institution that creates and incubates fucked up people, perhaps especially for second borns. We should probably ban it for that reason alone.

EverythingGolden · 20/02/2026 07:10

Why did they give him any kind of public role if they’re knew he was a volatile liability? Because he was the Queens favourite or did they just not realise quite what a liability. This is what is so concerning that absolute twats get into positions of power with no accountability for years and years. But having a republic makes no difference to this as we can see from across the pond.

TimeForATerf · 20/02/2026 07:06

Bellaunion · 20/02/2026 06:41

I don't think you can compare Harry and Andrew. Yes Harry is entitled and the constant whingeing about his family is tiresome but he actually hasn't done or being accused of anything illegal, paid off a sexual abuse victim or being close friends with a known trafficker.

The worst Harry is is annoying and if anything I have more admiration for him for walking away from that absolute shit show that is the royal family. He isn't even the same orbit for what Andrew has done.

Of course I can compare their entitlement. I never said Harry was a user of women, just that he was entitled, he, like Andrew has no idea of the real world and how real people live.

No sympathy from me. He's a proven liar and god knows what else will come out. I'll reserve my sympathy for Virginia and all the other victims of Epstein. I wish they could find the young girl in the recent photo with him and check that she is safe. How can anyone with daughters of his own treat young women like he did. And he was heavily involved with the NSPCC !

JuliettaCaeser · 20/02/2026 06:53

Is this post a joke? Listen or read Andrew Lownies book Entitled and you won’t feel a shred of sympathy.

Harry act detests Andrew. He punched him at a family event when Andrew warned him off marrying MM as she was “too old”.

William describes Andrew as “a twat”.

simplesimoneatspie · 20/02/2026 06:50

THisbackwithavengeance · 20/02/2026 06:30

He’s been made a scapegoat for the rest of them who are now getting away with murder, rape, child abuse and corruption.

So in that respect, I feel sorry for him.

And as a poster said, it’s a public witch-hunt.

We are being played like instruments. The higher-ups have decided that Andrew will take the hit and Joe Public will bay for blood and we will get the modern day equivalent of a public execution.

And then we forget about the whole thing and forget about the rest of them who no doubt have set up their seedy practices on another remote island and will carry on business as normal.

it’s sickening.

This imo
