To think Queen Elizabeth's legacy is going to be seriously harmed by this?

I mean I doubt he bounded into the palace shouting 'you'll never guess what I did last week'. He will massively have played down the extent of his friendship with Epstein and may even at times have lied about where he was when he was away. It seems his protection officers have some serious questions to answer around this. I doubt anyone in the RF had anything like the full picture. But QE stood by him and I can't see her coming out of this well.

i mentioned it earlier but for those who haven’t watched it tgeDavid Dimpelby 3 part series on the Rf was for me an eye opener , especially all the stuff about the Duchys - it’s a very one sided arrangement sorted ( poorly) by George Osborne - very much all in the RF favour -it’s very much a business - charging the NHS etc for use on their land etc -

The queen absolutely could have refused the advice to prorogue parliament. She was educated about constitutional matters from the age of 10. When it was judicially reviewed it was an open and shut case in the Supreme Court. It was the one thing that she was supposed to do in her otherwise symbolic role and she failed.

I agree on that

marcyhermit · 20/02/2026 23:13

As if the Queen ever took the slightest interest in her children's friendships 😂

That's Edward, otherwise I agree with you.

I've been wondering about Edward. He's certainly kept his distance from the RF.

RainbowBagels · 20/02/2026 10:34

Quite. To people who always say ' President Blair' he was the executive arm of government ( like Trump etc) under a Monarchy. As was Johnson. The Queen did nothing and could do nothing about Johnsons proroguing of Parliament. A ' commoner' took Johnsons government to judicial review and the courts decided. They are there to provide the bling and because they are desperate to be there.

I don't know how much the Queen knew , I'm very close to my family but only know what they choose to tell me about what they're doing. How many people live with their partners and have no idea that they are being cheated on?
But her paying VG off should have made her ask more questions.

This is the stupidity I can’t actually take. You are not close to your Mum and you compare that to the Royal family with a massive team behind them. Give me a break. If the Queen didn’t know, that is a massive waste of taxpayers resources.

Well I was never a fan anyway. Can't understand this worship of the royal family

We are a long way away from the days of QEII's Jubilee or William and Catherine's wedding for sure.

SerafinasGoose · 20/02/2026 20:03

What legacy? Not one of them does anything worthy of note.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 20/02/2026 20:01

One of the things that struck me as very manipulative was when the Queen decided she wasn't going to get another dog she wasn't going to live long enough for, Andrew went and bought her two puppies.

It strikes me as probably quite representative of their dynamic. The son who "spoiled her back". Tapping into those very immature emotions - puppies! I'll look after them when you die.

GreyfriarsJobbies · 20/02/2026 19:38

Who really gives a toss if having a royal family does bring in a few quid? Do we want the country to be antiquated theme park, where we are nothing but forelock-tugging 'subjects' of a bunch of inbred wrong 'uns, for the sake of money (and not that much money really). Besides, I went to both the Palace of Versailles and the Pope's palace in Avignon last year and they were both fucking heaving, so the idea that people only go to that sort of place because there's a connection to royalty/power today seems like tosh.

But you can't go to Sandringham or Balmoral except to peer at the gates. Those places are private homes. Windsor? Not sure on that. Yes visitors can go but is the taxpayer funding it? Certainly the Police and council are objecting to keep paying for Royal events there.

Sandringham £26 per person and Balmoral £18.50 plus all the extras (parking, cafe, gift shop)
Windsor £32 per person
Presumably there are restrictions when the family is in residence

You can go into Windsor castle all year round. BP is already being open for increasingly longer periods and I can foresee it will be open year round at some point.

William has already said he won’t live in BP. Like you I think it will be open to the public in his reign and quite possibly the gorgeous gardens will become a public park.

Blackberrys1 · 20/02/2026 18:49

I believe his siblings, the Palace's professional staff, his security, all knew he was the scum he is.

That picture of him with a child and a ball in the shape of a breast is positively chilling.

What occurred on Palace grounds?
Frogmore cottage?
Trafficking of women into the Palace?

They gambled 12 million that they could shut it down.

It is a shocking stain that will not be forgotten.
Absolute corruption.

I do have sympathy for any family member who was genuinely unaware of his behaviour.
Hard to believe whom that would be as it appears he was widely known to be a complete nasty, entitled waster.

RainbowBagels · 20/02/2026 15:24

Sandringham and Balmoral are private, but I'd imagine if tourists could go into Buckingham Palace and Windsor all year round and see all the state rooms, and all of the priceless treasures the Royals are hoarding for themselves, absolutely millions every year.

Andrew accused of watching young girl be 'tortured with electrical shocks'

A FBI report alleges the former prince watched as a girl aged six to eight years old was 'tortured with electrical shocks' by Ghislaine Maxwell, with Andrew denying all wrongdoing

Yes, miss.
Unfortunately bad figurehead presidents have taken over as those of us not new out of school can remember.
I am not over fond of many of the royals but I do suspect that their presence brings in a lot of trade and tourism to the country. Who would go to places like Sandringham, Balmoral and Windsor if it wasn't for the presence of royalty.

As I’ve put on another post about this subject, my now deceased MIL liked to refer to guys with tendencies like Andrew or even just plain philanderers like Boris J as ‘just naughty boys’ - I think many ( not all) an older women of the queens era just brushed away stuff as ‘boys will be boys’

Cyclebabble · 19/02/2026 19:08

The Queen performed her duties really well for nearly 70 years. Over that time she did some great things for her country. I think she was guilty of accepting her son's assurances at face value, but I think we should all be clear this is all down to AMW and no-one else. He has done serious damage to the Royal Family and it might be the start of the end. I do think that AMW is only the start of the problem. There will be many other powerful men involved in these horrific sexual abuse and it is of course notable that the only person outside of Epstein who has been convicted is a woman. There are I suspect many guilty men still walking amongst us.

Brilliant comment, if I may say so!

LeedsLoiner · 20/02/2026 13:18

It should be pointed out that Epstein notwithstanding and long before that Andrew was involved in plenty of dodgy deals and bad behaviour that the Queen would certainly have known about but indulged.

The tourist argument was debunked years go
The powers of a figurehead president are limited . Examples all over Europe of this

But I’m sure you know that which is why you use Russia and South America for your examples

Miss, is belarus in Europe

@Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot

“Unfortunately there are many bad presidents who dont get voted out at the end of four or so years - Mugabe, Putin, Bolsonara etc and I can't imagine Trump going without a fight he is already amassing his armies (ICE plus the judiciary).”

All your examples are executive presidents. Completely irrelevant. The UK would have a figurehead president.

For goodness sake learn the difference between a figurehead president and an executive one.

This point has to be corrected daily on here .

If you are ignorant of the difference , now you know .
If you knew the difference , stop spreading misinformation.
