Are you now more likely to vote for REFORM (the party)

NC for this and apologies if Q already asked. My quick search yielded no result.

Reform plan to undo the reversal of 2 child cap benefit. Are you now likely (or more likely) to vote for them? There have been endless threads about the welfare bill.

Try having to change your living arrangements and opting out of life whilst living on the breadline and simultaneously trying to get your life back together. It puts everything into perspective and you see things clearly.

You don't know anything about my life or what I have been through over the last few years in my personal life.

I was forced to move house five years ago during lockdown when my flat had to be demolished and I was also dealing with police for over a year at the same time due to a stalker. Lots of people have it tough - that still doesn't mean I need to be ashamed of claiming benefits to keep a roof over my head

You're the person advocating for cutting people's benefits even though you've lived in poverty yourself. There should not be a two tier poverty scale - that is people who don't claim benefits are somehow seen as better than those who don't

As I said previously - pride wouldn't have paid my rent or my bills

Christ. Thanks for the invite to the pity party.

The only person responsible for you not receiving benefits that could have supported you, is you. You chose not to claim them, that’s not the fault of any UC claimant, PIP claimant or immigrant.

You chose to struggle more than was necessary by not claiming what you had paid into and could have had. You can’t expect sympathy for that.

Never in a million years, no matter what.

Well, that's your choice to make, but as pp have said, no two situations are identical and disabilities, even the same one, can affect 2 people in the same way so it is unfair to try and shame pp for seeking and getting support in their time of need.

Sorry, should say "can affect 2 people in different ways"

That scenario is exactly what benefits are for.

Because the last government allowed the backlog to balloon. It takes time. This is real life, instant gratification doesn't exist. Honestly, what do you want? Someone to wave a magic wand and for it all to go away? Why can't Reform supporters acknowledge that the current government are deporting more people? Is anything they do ever going to be good enough for you?

Huh? I've no idea what the hell you are on about

I never said it doesn't take time. It shouldnt have got to this stage in the first place

I've no idea why reform supporters are supposedly not acknowledging the current government have deposited more people. Ask them

Pride

You chose not to claim benefits because you had other income you could live on - not everyone is in that situation. Pride would not have paid my rent or bills

Only on mumsnet could it be implied that someone is privileged if they survive on £500 a month (hasten to add that was for everything).

So £317 is for everything. No additional payments e.g. housing benefit or council tax exclusions or PIP

I didn't say you were privileged.

317 wasn't for everything. I got my rent paid as well but that didn't entitle me to Pip. I got council tax reduction - but I had to run a home on 317 pounds a month - not easy

I didn't say you were privileged - what I said was that I did not have a spare 500 pounds a month to live on when I was not working a few years ago - and that if I had not claimed UC I would have lost my home as my rent wouldn't have been paid. I didn't call you privileged at any point

Ah, but they'll get around that by abolishing ILR. Including for people who acquired it decades ago. And then if those people don't meet income thresholds, they're suddenly 'illegal'. Magic.

Yusuf said: "When Nigel is prime minister, there will not be a judge in the country that will be able to prevent flights from leaving."

CuppaTeaBab · 23/02/2026 13:52

MigGirl · 18/02/2026 14:53

No not at all, they also want to remove the NHS and make us pay for healthcare. Giving a small amount back in benefits isn't going to help.

We already pay for health care.

CharlotteRunpling · 23/02/2026 13:47

You do realise Reform has announced people on ILR will be kicked out? They are legal immigrants. The ILR is legal settlement.

Pride

Not claiming what you are entitled to if you have paid in isn't about pride. And where were you living that you could afford to live on £500/month including housing?

CharlotteRunpling · 23/02/2026 13:47

Thechaseison71 · 23/02/2026 13:45

It's only the ILLEGAL immigrants need kicking out. Not the ones who have a right to be here

You do know that this government have deported more people since coming to power than any government since 2017?

And that immigration is substantially down? Oh, inconvenient facts...

So that means you're OK with millions of people becoming homeless then. Nice.

This tax payer doesn't begrudge people in need the support that they get. This tax payer would rather not go back to the Victorian age.

No one should be made to feel ashamed because they claim UC. There was a thread on these boards a couple of weeks ago where people were saying that people shouldn't claim benefits. They should be out washing cars with a mop and bucket (it's always the person who doesn't claim UC who comes up with these ideas)

I personally get called a scrounger enough as it is. I had a triple leg fracture just over 18 months and the dwp pretty much told me I was fit for work when I couldn't walk

I got disability benefits - (for a set time period) on the third attempt and I had to go to tribunal to get them

I didn't have a spare 500 pounds a month to live on when I was out of work a few years ago and if I hadn't claimed UC at that point I wouldn't have got my rent paid and I would have been homeless

Why is it always the people who have the least who are targeted further?
