Are you now more likely to vote for REFORM (the party)

NC for this and apologies if Q already asked. My quick search yielded no result.

Reform plan to undo the reversal of 2 child cap benefit. Are you now likely (or more likely) to vote for them? There have been endless threads about the welfare bill.

Because it takes years of house sharing like I described in my above comment to get a council places these days and most give up and private rent which is expensive these days.

A lot has changed in a short space of time and I was not belittling you because of your age just pointing that out

The only reason I got that flat in the first place was because it was in a hard to let area that no one wanted to live in - or I would still be waiting. I did mention elsewhere that I managed homeless units - I am quite aware of how hard it is for some people to get council or private rented accommodation - even people who are homeless and in temporary accommodation

Yes you were belittling me because of my age. You made the assumption that I don't know anything about how the housing system works apart from my own experience as a tenant - and that is not the case. I don't live in a bubble. I have friends down south who pay a grand a month for crap sub standard accommodation

By the way - it wasn't that easy to get council housing in the 70s either. My mum was initially refused a council house when she split from my dad just incase he moved into the town we lived in

She had to battle to get one - after spending time living with family and in temporary accommodation and then was helpfully told by a housing officer that someone might be able to pull strings and get her a house - if she slept with him

Just because YOU don’t see it or experience it doesn’t mean racism wasn’t rife when we were growing up.

A colour blindness approach doesn’t help anyone either. The best thing is to embrace peoples differences and cultures along with who they are as a person.

I certainly wouldn’t want to live in an all white country. We need immigration. If Reform got in power we would sadly have to consider moving country as the concept is terrifying.

That's the difference between us - I would rather embrace or emphasise what people from different backgrounds have in common which in turn creates unity rather than embrace or emphasise the differences which in turn creates division.

I am perfectly happy for people to celebrate Hanukkah or Diwali or Eid but I don't have to also celebrate it because I'm not Jewish, Hindu or Muslim.

I am perfectly happy for people to celebrate Thanksgiving or Bastille day but I don't feel the need to equally celebrate it for the sake of diversity because I'm not American or French.

By emphasising what are the differences rather than what we have in common you create the Balkanisation of a country, division and yes racism.

Genuine question, do you think that the concept that people should be judged on the content of their character rather than the colour of their skin is in itself someway racist?

Like people who don't wait years. It's area and situation dependent.
Have you heard of hard to let properties or do they not exist in your experience?

Yeah that sucks I’m not saying it doesn’t I had to share a kitchen and bathroom and living room with someone who tried putting my head theough the wall because I asked her to turn her music down. She broke all my plates after arguments and poured all my shampoos and shower gels down the drain. It’s not a competition of who had it harder and I don’t want it to be. I didn’t even get a council place after all that had to privately rent very expensive. I’m just saying a lot has changed in 30 years. Plenty of people willing to live anywhere now

And what is wrong with saying real estate ?

This has all stemmed from the fact that you don't seem to believe that there are areas of my home town that people don't want to live in.

The housing scheme I used to live in was demolished five years ago for that very reason. It had a bad reputation. People didn't want to live there - and that was replicated all over the wider area in neighbouring towns. All four in a block flats are being demolished and the towers will come down at some point too

I actually didn't want to move out - it was my home and I had been there for 25 years

I live in a council flat in the west of Scotland by the way. Nothing about my life is privileged in any way shape or form

I'm from a single parent family in a rough inner city area, went to a sink school. Spent my life working in the public sector and charities. But apparently I look down my boastful nose on "lowly peasants". 🤣

Right - so my local council decided to flatten the area that I lived in and build other homes on the same area because people actually wanted to live there? They chose to make that decision because the housing scheme was notorious and people didn't want to live there -because of the number of empty properties

What actually makes you think that I don't know how expensive rent is in parts of the UK because of my age?.
I only left that flat five years ago. I had to because my ex landlord demolished it

Ah I get it. I should have considered myself lucky to live next to drug dealers who hounded the life out of me and others for a decade. Including multiple threats - because some people have to share kitchens with them - there's always someone who has it worse than you - you old out of touch person.

I was 26 when I moved into that flat by the way.

I meant out of touch with how expensive rent is nowadays and how young people and families can’t be fussy at all. You’re over three decades older than me and a lot has changed in that time. You can’t expect anyone under 30 to believe it’s common for “no one” to want to live somewhere.

Younger people are lucky to live next door to drug dealers and not in the same house as drug users sharing the kitchen and bathroom

Just how diverse is the area you live in @Moonshadowmoon? I’m just baffled how you seem to think stopping brown men coming into the country is more important and will affect your day to day life more than any of the other policies Reform stand for.

The the rich will pay less tax, you’d have a US style healthcare model so no more NHS and you’d have to fund insurances to pay for any healthcare needed, no minimum wage, cuts to benefits, and you’d have no rights when pregnant or being female as we’d be leaving the ECHR and scrapping the equality act.

Does getting rid of brown men really mean that you’re happy at the cost of all the above?

Are you ignoring this question @Moonshadowmoon? Surely as an educated woman living in the U.K. it’s important to do your research and know exactly what you’re getting if you vote for Farage? Seems a little strange to give away your human rights, free healthcare and be worse off financially, all on specifically getting Afghan men out wouldn’t it?

Those Afghan men must really be affecting your day to day life 🙃

What has my age got to do with anything? I'm out of touch? I can assure you that's the last thing I am. If I were out of touch I wouldn't have accepted a flat next to anti social drug dealers would I?

I'm actually a qualified addiction worker and I've managed homeless units as well. Have you?

My mum had me at 19 - what relevance does you being a young mother have to do with anything that's been said on here?

Oh well - being old enough to be someone's granny - makes you out of touch.

I'll remember that the next time I express an opinion

I don't know why people imagine ageism to be any less damaging than other forms of prejudice. It always seems to affect women disproportionately too - the idea of being a grandmother or the age of a grandmother is almost seen as shameful. She'll be calling you an old dear next!

Respectfully you’re old enough to be my grandmother, seriously if my oldest kid has a child the age I had them that would make the age difference between you and me. You’re very out of touch where people could once be fussy about where they lived they can’t now. That’s why you see people living in cars and shit. Or having roommates who are the anti social drug dealers/users and having to share the kitchen with them. Millions of people out there would pick sharing a neighbourhood with people like that over sharing the kitchen with them. Trust me I’ve been there.

Anyway maybe it’s different in Scotland I’m not saying you’re lying just that it’s not the case here

@LoveHearts69 ’We need immigration’.

We need high quality immigrants who can pay for themselves.
Up to now, most of the immigrants have been low paid and are a cost to the economy.

How come immigration is economically positive then?

I have a friend from uni who is Black and who was almost arrested after a night out for just standing in the street. It took the intervention of a colleague to de escalate the situation

Her son who lives with her, she lives in London was stopped because he has a sports car - one that he paid for himself - because police thought he had stolen it.

That's the reality of what some BAME people face daily. Go look up the case of Sarah Reed compared to how Lavinia Woodward was treated by the criminal justice system. Lavinia stabbed her boyfriend while high on drugs and wasn't sent to prison because she was considered to too bright to be jailed by a white middle class judge. Sarah hung herself on remand in Holloway prison - she was remanded after trying to defend herself from a sexual assault

Go look up the case of Sheku Baron-do you think a white man would have been treated in the same way by police?

BAME people are more likely to be arrested. Incarcerated. Stopped and searched by police than white people - because of the colour of their skin..

Iain Livingstone who is the ex chief constable of police Scotland said police were institutionally racist and exist as well

I'll say it one more time. I lived in an area for 25 years that was more or less half full when I moved in.

There was one very anti social family - they were drug dealers. More than one family left the area because of them.
I also had another dealer living next door to me for a few years.

At one point the council furnished some of the flats to try and get the scheme full and it only got fuller in the end because a lot of Polish families moved in

You're trying to suggest that I'm not telling the truth - when I am. And the suggestion seems to be that why should refugees have got these flats when there are local people on council waiting lists - because no one wanted to live there

I DID live anywhere - other people didn't want to

I really can't be bothered "debating" with someone who dismisses everything I post

There are still some towers in the area which will be eventually flattened as well - at the moment there are Ukrainian refugees in them
