I don’t agree with death penalty, but think I’d consider it for this…

Woman on the train next to me is scrolling through reels with the volume on. No headphones. How socially inept do you have to be to think this is ok?

Immediate death penalty 😁

So I'm guessing you're not in favour of castration for litter louts?

I’m in favour of castration for lots of things to be honest. I threatened to perform it on my DH if he whinged again about the hospital chair being uncomfortable after I gave birth to our third DC. Told him it would save waiting for the vasectomy appointment and would mean he’d never need to try and sleep in the chair again.

Same DH as before who plays TikTok reels out loud whilst I’m in the room… I do love him really.

I think there are numerous things you could have referenced as a joke without using the death penalty which isn't really funny.

Yeah.
When I regularly travelled on the No.8 bus in East London, I used to think that anyone who continuously 'dinged' the bell before the stop (after it already said 'Bus Stopping' on the light up notice), should have been delivered a massive electric shock after the second 'ding'.
Immediate justice.

@BeingATwatItsABingThing and @Onelittledog

my partner too! I ask him time and time again not to but he doesn’t listen. I am
in the wrong for not being with the times and I should pretend it’s the radio.

Death penalty too good. 😂

butidid · 17/02/2026 18:56

The guy sitting next to me on the tube who spent the entire 6 stop journey digging with his little finger in his ear, pulling it out, inspecting and then getting back in there for another rummage.

I think a fitting punishment is spending 24hrs with toddler twins with norovirus and no washing machine

My cure for this, which is surprisingly effective is:

On public transport - play opera, hymns or organ music

Everywhere else - whistle tunelessly and persistently, right next to them

I used to live in a flat that overlooked a residents' car park, and so often people would just wander in having speakerphone conversations loud enough to be incredibly distracting, if not bring on a headache (something about the pitch of voices coming out of a tinny speaker can set them off). I'd sit there trying to work with rising irritation wondering if I could just shout out the window to tell them to have their boring work conversation somewhere else, preferably outside their own houses.

They soon stopped after I came up with the idea of opening the window wider, turned up the speakers on my work laptop and played some metal.

fancytoes · 17/02/2026 18:51

I actually had to say something the other day: did you know that is out loud? Or do you have earphones?

It was unforgivable.

YouHaveAnArse · 17/02/2026 18:35

Why haven't you just told her to stop? That's what I do.

Accompanied by teen dd and her friend. Seeing as I embarrass her merely existing I thought it best not to make it worse 😂

I was prepared to say that those from the Epstein Files absolutely should have the death penalty on the table but we all know that money talks!

Anyway, YANBU! That is the height of inconsiderate behaviour on a train.

ETA - My DH does this at home whilst sitting on the sofa and it drives me mad there. I tell him to pack it in though.

Edited

My husband does this too. It makes me murderous and it doesn't matter how many times I ask him to turn his volume down it keeps happening. It's so bad mannered in my view

Lilyhatesjaz · 17/02/2026 18:45

I'm not really a violent person so I would settle for a splat gun and blast them with a face full of custard.

MidnightPatrol · 17/02/2026 18:45

I have experienced people playing stuff on their iPads / phones out loud on every flight I’ve taken for about two years.

Absolutely insane behaviour

We could team up. If I had a zapper, ideally an invisible one so I could operate in stealth, I'd be patrolling the streets and all sorts of public spaces to prevent noise pollution, dropping of litter, flytipping, people blocking aisles with a trolley or stopping dead at the top of the escalator, kids on scooters or anything else with wheels whizzing around banging into other people. I'd be like a pig in clover.

when I was a kid, spontaneous combustion was a “thing” remember reading about it in the paper…I imagine a slight wisp of smoke and all thats left is their slightly smouldering trainers😂

My pet hate too. YA most absolutely definitely NBU!

And ‘lady’ who goes to the same cafe as me on a Tuesday morning - your son being in Australia may well be a special occasion to you but to me it isn’t and your 45 minute no headphone FaceTime call ruined my time relaxing in the cafe.

The problem with a life sentence is we don’t really have the prison space.

I quite like the zapper idea.

Agreed - I’d soon have the population thinned out to manageable numbers if I had a vaporising gun and had to travel on public transport very often…

Cyclists who jump red lights at pedestrian crossings need to be added to the list

It's funny how death penalty threads usually bring out all sorts of moral objections. Not this one.
