Why are the 'But Palestine...' posters not very interested in Iran

Was reading another thread and soneone made this point.

Is it because Hamas is funded by Iran and is the de facto government of Gaza?

Human rights abuses have been going on in Iran for decades. The Islamic Regine came to power in 1979. The regime has brutally repressed and repeatedly murdered 1000s in that time. In a FEW DAYS this year 10s of thousands were murdered, many more deliberately blinded. In other words around half the people killed in a war in Gaza in 30 months were killed in a couple of days in Iran. And let's not forget that the war was started by Hamas. Israel has been defending itself against relentless Iran-backed Palestinian terrorism in that time. The people of Iran have not been responsible for war or terrorism. Just demanding reasonable democratic freedoms.

So we should have sympathy and support for innocent victims of both regimes. Standing up against the injustice suffered.

Instead we have these constant divisive threads who use Iranians suffering to point score against anyone who is deemed a "Pro Pally".

Because they hate Jews.

Well it's not for me. Any regime (and there are plenty to pick from, sadly) that kills children (well anybody really, but the children really get to me) will get my opprobrium.

But I do find that however much one decried what happened on 7/10 which I do, they (we) are not allowed to criticise the Israeli government (not Jewish people) actions in Gaza, which is on the edge( it's probably tipped over but I'm trying very hard to be fair,) of being out and out genocide.

Who is not allowed to criticise the Israeli government? What a ridiculous thing to say. I take it you don't know any Israelis.

Well obviously, the human rights abuses in Palestine have been going on decades and there is at least 70000 confirmed dead in the past 30 months.
So the coverage/social media reach would be greater.

What a strange argument to make.

Because it’s not about human rights at all. Not even a little bit. It’s a convenient excuse to bash Jews.

This is such a ridiculous argument. I see it all the time on MN. Shouldn’t be rewarded with a response.

And yet we sell arms to the UAE and KSA who've got their fingerprints all over the conflicts in Sudan and Yemen- I don't see much concern about forcing government change on that front either.

Eventually all the arguments break down and all we are left with is No Jews No News.

GrethaGreen · 16/02/2026 20:23

BlakeCarrington · 16/02/2026 19:41

Any interest from those protestors in Sudan? Ah no, of course not. Slaughters don’t matter unless there are Jews you can try to blame. Gross.

Oh please. Nobody can argue that Iran has had anything like the coverage, the level of protest or profile or the level of social media traffic as Gaza. Its objectively nonsense.

MrsBunny2018 · 16/02/2026 20:13

Because it's about Jew hate, plain and simple. Have you seen the Pro Pally interviews online? They simply don't have the intelligence to understand world history and current affairs. They prefer to get their propaganda from good old Tiktok University

ElizaMulvil · 16/02/2026 20:11

Many of the US and European Jewish Diaspora are also campaigning against the actions of the Israeli Government in Gaza. Hundreds of Rabbis, Cantors and Academics are amongst them. In the long Jewish tradition of supporting human rights eg a certain Jesus Christ, I believe. (Incidentally we should all be concerned about Zelenski, the leader of Ukraine, joining a standing ovation by the Canadian Parliament for a SS soldier who massacred Poles and Jews in WW2.) We need to be more careful who we back.

You find Hamas, Israel, and the Iranian regime equally abhorrent eh?

How can you honestly say this?

Which of the above 3 shoots its own citizens wothout trial in the streets?
Which of them have functional economies? Decent levels of employment?
Which of them have equal rights for women? Gay people? Which of them blind and kill women for incorrect wearing of head gear?
Which of them have a nominally secular constitution and allow freedom of religion?
Which of them follow an extremely conservative read of religion to infiltrate literally every sphere of life- with all the oppression that brings in particular to women? Which of them hold elections?

Its unbelievably ignorant to say the 3 are equally abhorrent. I can't believe how often this shit pops up on here. Its absolutely infuriating.

Its deranged.

Personally, I find the actions of Hamas, Israel, and the Iranian government equally abhorrent, and I don't get this rampant desire to pick a side when there are no good sides to pick.

I also don't get the "if you think X is wrong, then you obviously don't care about Y", sentiment that seems to be rife around this topic. It is a childish and unintelligent argument.

EdithStourton · 16/02/2026 19:48

I have, sadly but without surprise, concluded that it's a classic case of, 'No Jews, no news'.

There is a lot of latent and not-so-latent antisemitism around.

BlakeCarrington · 16/02/2026 19:46

None of this matters to the Palestine Action protestors though @SharonEllis - the slaughter of innocents in Iran, in Sudan - not a peep out of them. We all know why.

Seriously? You think Israel is as bad as Iran? I wonder which country would you rather live in?

ColdAsAWitches · 16/02/2026 17:01

How is the UK government supporting Israel? They are not.

They allow British made arms to be sold to Israel. They have flown thousands of drone and RAF flights over Gaza and given the footage to Israel. They have admitted that they have footage of IDF attacks on civilians in Gaza but won't release the footage. You gave to admit that is at least some level of support.

The UK sells a miniscule amount of arms components to Israel. This is BS.

SharonEllis · 16/02/2026 19:42

And it's not just Muslims killing Muslims. There are persecuted minorities in Iran such as Bahais.

And Syrians are killing their Druze population.

HappyFace2025 · 16/02/2026 19:42

@Martymcfly24 these were all from this weekend. The protests have been going on since early January but it has taken weeks for the media to catch up.

SharonEllis · 16/02/2026 19:42

DifferentNameForQuestion · 16/02/2026 15:44

That doesn't matter then? Surely, it's equally important. Why does Muslim killing Muslim not matter?

This.

there are protests in London outside the Iranian embassy. a big one last Saturday. Look it up if you want to join.

Spot on. They don’t seem to give a crap about the ongoing massacre in Sudan either. I wonder why that could be 🤔

GrethaGreen · 16/02/2026 19:37

HappyFace2025 · 16/02/2026 19:25

Every weekend outside the Embassy but they get next to no media attention. They are nothing like or as big as the pro Pal marches and demos organised and funded by the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (some of whose funds comes from the TUC).

Edited

They do get media attention and what is happening in Iran does get media attention. I have seen more about Iran than Gaza in the media lately.

I understand why more people protest against Israel as they are supposed to be a civilised nation, an ally we support and they are in the Eurovision Song Contest. Previous posters have probably explained it better. I don’t join those protests by the way. I think there are a lot of people I don’t want to associate myself with on those marches, but I have stopped buying Israeli goods and actively make sure I don’t.
Our supermarket shelves are not full of oranges from iran…
