Reform wants women barefoot and pregnant

Reform candidate Matt Goodwin wants women to have children early in life and introduce extra taxes as punishment for anyone who chooses not to have children.

Misogyny in plain sight.

How long till they ban abortion too?

Women voting Reform may want to consider if they are turkeys voting for christmas.

I haven't been able to find anything to verify the representation that this is a Reform policy. I'm not sure how Labour think this type of Guardian hyperbole plays out over the longer term for them with information now easily available.

I went to X and Reform's Matt Goodwin - has a true/false and this is more Labour desperation:

"I wrote a blog which summarised the ideas of Dr Paul Morland, a leading expert on demography. Paul set out many policy ideas to try and tackle our demographic crisis. We are not having enough children. I did not advocate specific policies but said we should debate all his ideas. The Left misrepresented this to make it appear I was personally demanding a specific policy. They are trying to mislead you."

Matt Goodwin (@GoodwinMJ) on X

🚨TRUE or FALSE with Matt Goodwin🚨 Q: "did you say you don’t like Manchester?" ❌ FALSE. I said I didn’t enjoy being at the Tory conference in Manchester. Labour selectively edited a speech to make it look like it was about Manchester. Q: "is it...

Trump was elected in the US fairly. You just don't like him.

If Reform get elected here it will mean that they won the election. You presumably wont vote for them and you don't like them and you are entitled to.

I didnt vote for Labour. I think they are the worst government we have ever had. I think people who voted for them naive as I remembered the actions of Keir Starmer before he was PM. But thats my opinion and Im entitled to have it. Thats the beauty of democracy. We all have one vote each.

I agree with you.

Labour won the 24 GE simply as a function of a protest vote against the Tories. Ironic that Labour will be carried out in similar fashion.

What an abomination of a government this has been - utterly awful.

I think Rupert Lowe’s new Restore Britain party is going to wipe the floor with Reform tbh

He's a hateful individual too. We need a real alternative that people can get behind without ruining everyone's lives.

This business about the brain is a pernicious myth.

If you mean it's a myth that it stops developing at 25, then sure. It continues to develop beyond that. But the prefrontal cortex does not develop fully until around 25. Thats not a myth. The prefrontal cortex is responsible for decision making and behaviour, so pretty important for it to be developed before having children!!

No it's not, but they want it to follow the same path.

Please can you cite the section in their manifesto that says that.

It actually goes back to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Its all a great unknown at the moment but the election is 3 years away and so I wouldnt get your knickers in a twist just yet.

It's not a great unknown. We're getting to watch the programme unfold in real life across the pond. Which is why putting our heads in the sand is not the right strategy. As the saying goes on MN, if they tell you who they are listen. Well, the message from MAGA inc. is being broadcast loud and clear to the world. We'd be fools to ignore it, and worse fools to adhere to it.

So naive. There are so many ways for Reform to get support without a single £ or $ hitting their accounts.

Has he been told off by the party's senior leaders? No. Why is Nige not making noise to that effect? Because he is voicing what the party wants. Simple. If you don't want a Christian nationalist patriarchy in power, do not vote Reform.

What would you like him told off for?

What this forum is frothing at the mouth about what "he said", like the thread title?

Or what he actually said?

Because if it's the latter he has not said anything that he should be disciplined for that I can see. He is a right wing politician in a right wing party, after all.

Well, we can see where the money will come from as is and that will be public domain. We are watching in real time the MPs joining the party and who they are. We will be able to read their manifesto when the election comes around. And then we can judge whether we think they will do a good job and if we like their policies. If you are interested in the UK's political future you should be interested in who/what backs Reform and where its ideology and much of its proposed policies originate from.

As is a UK style ICE

Courts interpret law. Not necessarily only apply it. In Scotland at least, it’s called Case Law. Things can be argued and decisions made. It’s not only applying it. This week’s court decision in England against a UK Government law, is another example .
if we allow the removal of the Human Rights Act, it removes important rights which we all have. That’s fundamentally important

The courts use case law and statute to determine a case, yes thats right. But they have to follow precedent. Theres been an increase in judge made Law and its a problem. Judges cannot make new laws.

The Human Rights Act has been applied in many circumstances contrary to the intention of the legislators at the time and in ways that is detrimental to the interests of this country. It can be amended or taken off the statute books. But that wont mean we dont have "rights"...we did have rights before Blair. What rights are you particularly worried about being removed?

No, Im interested in UK politics as Im in the UK. I dont subscribe to this obsession many people have here with Trump.

I repeat. We are a different country. We can look at other countries to see whether they have any ideas that have worked to reduce illegal immigration. And then tailor them to thr UK.

Asylum seekers are not in the habit of running away.

Where would you build these detention camps?

Are you following what's happening in the US? I bring it up -again, yes- because we live in an age where we have access to information 24/7 and we can no longer claim ignorance. There's a lot of disinformation out there but there's also a lot of genuine footage and sources that reveal what's going on. Do you think that the direction of travel over there is something that cannot happen here? The attacks on democratic institutions and human rights that are now reported every single day? There's no 'cry wolf' here. What is happening over there is showing us exactly what's in store for us- maybe with some local tweaks- but by and large that's the type of regime that we can look forward to. I bet you the mid terms won't be free and fair (unless there is such a massive backlash among Republicans that the authoritarian threat is meaningfully contained). What the federal government has been doing with ICE is not about protecting women and girls, it's about wholesale intimidation. Reform have stated supporting an ICE style agency. Tell me they're not following a script! In the meantime, when non-white kids are too scared to leave their homes and go to school, are the Epstein abuse victims getting any justice? No! Of course not! Women's rights are under attack in the US and they will be here in the exact same way. Minority rights are under attack too. The list goes on. And THAT is who is backing Reform.

Oh yes, I agree.

But they would have people of colour interred and doing some sort of forced labour, if they could only get away with it.

Himmler found a way to set up the concentration camps. I see no reason why Reform would not try the same.
100 years almost after Hitler.

No. Its just the hyperbole in politics is completely out of hand. How does anyone know what a party is actually honestly proposing when people come on here spouting absolute gibberish. Its really irritating and unhelpful. Why cant we all just stick to facts rather than exaggerating and putting our own (often mental) spin on things.

Reform is a good example where people cant seem to talk about them without calling them racists who support Hitler. And because these people cant stick to the facts no one can actually judge what Reform are suggesting. What if a party started going up the polls who did actually support Hitler. The Boy who Cried Wolf still resonates here.
