Men commit 99% of all rapes and sexual assaults.

Men (and young men) commit 95-98% of school shootings.

Men commit 90% of all violent crime in the UK.

These are not female crimes, and should never, ever be reported - or recorded - as such. It can safely be assumed in any of the above circumstances that a male person was the perpetrator.

It's weird how so many of us seem to have had so many experiences with so many of these tiny percentage of men.
Mine have been beyond counting -ranging from attempted rape and bones being broken to endless suggestive comments and leering.
Always men, but never the same man.

I'm in my 50s and I was flashed at 19. If your friends/daughter/ you do online dating ( male that is) ask if they have been sent dic pics because that's the modern equivalent of flashing

I was flashed in a shop before I knew what a willy was. Then at a bus stop when I was maybe 14. Again, on my way to Uni one morning. Also, once when riding through some woods. Who ARE these people who have never been flashed?? And how did that very small percentage keep on finding ME?

And that's only the flashing.

I don't think I have any female friend or relative who has not had an unwanted sexual or abusive encounter with a male.

I know!!!

And actually this all men are violent crap does so much more normalising damage. It kind of says men are violent and likely to commit violent crime by default so it’s kind of natural. They’re not. Only 3 % are.

I don't know if anyone's made this point yet, but I'm finding it hard to see how your 3% is a positive!

Let's say you work in a large-ish business in a medium-large city.

That 3% could mean, in a sense, about:

  • 6 of your colleagues
  • up to 3 in your rush-hour train carriage (6 if we count both ways)
  • 6 in your post-work supermarket sweep
  • 6 as you walk for 20 mins through the busy city (each walk you take)
  • 1 in the pub
  • 3 in the club
  • ...leaving you coming in fairly close proximity to up to 25 in your average weekday day.

And you don't know which.

Your 3% seems to me to go a long way towards explaining why women, while not literally thinking "It's all men," (somewhat obviously, one would have thought?!) do often bear in mind that it does pay to be wary - or, if not wary, then at least aware that it could be any one they encounter.

If you then take into account that the 3% doesn't take into account low conviction rates or the lower-level but still intimidating behaviours most of us have endured since our early teens...

...3% is an appalling baseline, and only really a positive if you're wilfully misreading what many posters are saying - which is more like an entirely rational, "3%+ is far too many, and leaves me exercising caution within reason" than "It's 110%! Run awaaaay!" To pretend it's the latter is so absurd as to be disrespectful, if nothing else.

Don’t be ridiculous. I’m in my late 50s with a daughter in her 20s and multiple other female family members. None of us have been flashed at because it’s only a very small percentage of the population that commit these crimes.

So so bad and damaging trying to normalise this type of behaviour. It isn’t normal or common male behaviour.

Please don't call me ridiculous. Maybe you should think yourself lucky, instead?

At 17 there was a flasher waiting on the local bridleways to flash at girls from the riding school.

At 19 my boyfriend attempted to force me into having sex (I faked bursting into tears and he stopped).

At 34 a man in a business suit masturbated using the side of my backrest on a train.

At 50 I was sat in a Jacuzzi with a man who was clearly pleasuring himself under the bubbles.

Last week 67 I was hit by a cyclist who attempted to push me off a narrow pavement.

As a football supporter I've seen male on male violence more times than I can count and my husband was knocked to the floor and kicked in the head many years back by a male who he had tried to stop from racially abusing a Chinese takeaway worker.

Talking to friends and seeing the results of surveys, I am not out of the ordinary.

Only a tiny fraction of male sexual abuse and male violence is ever reported, far less prosecuted.

IloveOwlsandPenguins · 15/02/2026 14:33

So small you believe … yet the number of women on here who haven’t been sexually abused or assaulted will also be vanishingly small so something needs to change .
The first step is acknowledging that ALL women live their lives adapted to the threat of male violence.

Hey, i'm agreeing with you. I dont have a single female friend who hasn't been leered at, sexually harassed, hit or worse. I dont belive it's 3% or whatever the latest figure is.

IloveOwlsandPenguins · 15/02/2026 14:48

Complete nonsense . If you are a girl / woman and haven’t been groped or harassed at the very minimum you’re very , very lucky . Maybe listen to other women instead of minimising our lived experience.
Plenty of us have been raped . Most of us don’t report . It’s very , very common .

This.
Rape might as well be legal because what women go through after reporting it mostly just compounds the trauma and humiliation. The number of rapes and assaults that are reported is very small and the conviction rate even smaller.
I am sure the stats have been reported on FWR.

I don’t need to tell my daughter to be wary of men . Life has sadly taught her that .

I’m sorry to hear that @IloveOwlsandPenguins . How old is she?

IloveOwlsandPenguins · 15/02/2026 14:48

ToughC00kie · 15/02/2026 12:14

It’s the same small percentage of men doing it!

Do you really believe only 3% of men harass women and girls when they’re out and about ?
Try being a teenage girl just sitting on a bench by a minor road and see how many men lean out of car windows and shout sexual , intimidating things at you .

Far too many men behave poorly when they’re think they can get away with it .
Epstein files , the Pelicot and similar cases , the huge popularity of violent and degrading porn , ubiquitous spiking and my lived experience tell me that .

Then you may be shocked to realise the NHS have gone to court twice to argue it is a normal contractual obligation for its frontline female staff.

Is this an anti-men thread or an anti-trans thread? Just so we're all clear.

I want to know whether we're using this info as a justification to not allow men to work in caring professions or not to allow trans women to pee in the same toilets this time round. For clarity, you understand. Cheers.

Seems to me the OP was just being factual . That seems to upset a lot of people who think we should shut up both about the sexual violence women face & the appalling gaslighting by much of the press this week in labelling a mentally ill young man ‘ a woman in a dress ‘ .

You mean presumed, not assumed.
Also, crimes don’t have a sex.

Crimes don't have sex?!! Crime is heavily sexed, the statistics in EVERY country around the world back this up. Do you really feel the need to dick pander to the extent of denying blatant truths and making yourself look stupid?

Thattimenow · 15/02/2026 14:07

Perspective is fine. It's true to say that most women will never be a direct victim of a serious violent or sexual assault.

But it's also true to say, that it doesn't mean we shouldn't be doing everything possible as a society to prevent them from happening.

ToughC00kie · 15/02/2026 13:49

RichardOnslowRoper · 15/02/2026 13:48

Fine.
You think male crimes should be kept in perspective because it's a ' tiny" number of men who commit crimes, but have nothing else to say about how to stop these men because you have never experienced it. Fair enough.

Whatever 🥱

Are you against:
Counting and recording men's crimes as men's crimes rather than calling men women
Safe spaces for women
Studying male crimes to see how and why they are committed
Framing policy to tackle this, as the Met is trying to tackle deep rooted misogny

Which of these are you against?
