I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

Ewwww. Maybe it's an American thing. Valentine's day is for couples.

KilkennyCats · 11/02/2026 23:26

i absolutely adore my dc and as such will be treating them to a little hamper of home bargains acquired tat
I honestly don’t know where to start with this 😆😆😆

Salmonhighfive · 11/02/2026 23:21

Funny you ask I have just had this conversation with my DH who told
me not to buy the outfit I was planning on buying my DD for Valentine’s Day because it will set a president!! I didn’t see the big deal initially but do sort of understand what he means. I got her a card and a little chocolate lollipop! I know she has made us cards so I think it’s nice

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · 11/02/2026 23:20

I might make something - I don't plan to buy any Chinese made rubbish which will end up in landfill by the next weekend

Someone’s clearly never heard of Galentines either then!!

Life is too short to be this miserable honestly

Galentines 😭
Stop 🤣
It gets worse lol

TheCurious0range · 11/02/2026 23:14

Don't usually do anything for ds but I was in m&s today and they had some heart shaped gingerbread biscuits so I got him one. I'll probably give it to him Friday straight after his swimming lesson as he's always ravenous.

Travelfairy · 11/02/2026 23:10

I just got them both a little love heart gift bag with their favourite chocolates inside

Bufftailed · 11/02/2026 23:07

er nothing

Notthehill · 11/02/2026 23:02

The single red rose for DD is a bit yuck (in my opinion) but the rest sounds like a bit of fun OP.

ByWarmShark · 11/02/2026 23:02

I think you'd be better off teaching your daughter not to judge a man's worth by the trinkets he buys her. Some of the biggest arseholes I know are the most generous on valentine's day (hint, they see women as commodities to be purchased).

Morepositivemum · 11/02/2026 22:59

Going to fill plastic cups with different sweets, like you would a pick n mix, also cute cupcakes and hint in the next day again that a card for me is obligatory 😅

Paintisblue · 11/02/2026 22:57

You’re a lovely parent op and I second the giving your daughter standards to save her from the bare minimum boys later.

i absolutely adore my dc and as such will be treating them to a little hamper of home bargains acquired tat. No I don’t need to, yes it’s likely a waste of money however it makes them feel special.

last year I saw an instagram post where someone had decorated their kids door at night with paper love hearts and each one had a little reason on why their mam loves them. I did it for mine and those scraggy paper love hearts are still on their doors because they refuse to let me take them down.

I know valentines is for romantic love but if I have an opportunity to do something nice for my kids then I will.

snoopyfanaccountant · 11/02/2026 22:56

I had a year at school in the USA in the 70s. Valentine's Day there had no romantic connotations but instead cards were distributed to classmates as they would have been at Christmas.

elliejjtiny · 11/02/2026 22:49

Dh took dc4 (that's 4th child not a 4 year old) to choose a little cuddly toy for his girlfriend. Me and dh went out for lunch today for an early valentines because it's the last child free day until 23rd February.

HolyMoly24 · 11/02/2026 22:48

My partner always gets our girls a card and maybe a single rose and teddy. They are 6 and 1, it’s really sweet.

thaisweetchill · 11/02/2026 22:44

I always buy my son (6) a red heart balloon, he loves it. He will go with DH to get me some flowers and told me he’ll get his (unborn) sister something, I’m hoping it’s chocolate as not sure what he can get a 6 month baby in my belly 😂😂

mumofoneAloneandwell · 11/02/2026 22:23

This is a lovely post 🥰🥰

happy birthday for Saturday as well

and what a big moment, writing their name for the first time!! Have a lovely one

agree, they’ll learn to love from us - why not make the best of it

❤️

Thank you! I hope you both have a lovely day too.

My 1 and 3 year olds go to different nurseries and the themes this week are both love, my oldest has also been talking about it for weeks (and I’ve not brought it up) so I don’t think it’s unusual to do something nice for it at home or school!

I did also get a Valentine’s card from the dogs daycare on Monday, so in some respects the world has gone a little mad 😂

SharyBobbins · 11/02/2026 22:39

Each to their own! I've got my kids a little token gift and a card. I get a card from them to give to my widowed mum along with a single rose or chocolates. It makes us all smile. It might sound weird to some me buying something for my mum but my dad can't now and it'll bring a smile to her face which is what he would have wanted.

Aug12 · 11/02/2026 22:37

Nothing, I always thought valentines was for couples.

Happytap · 11/02/2026 22:37

Crochetandtea · 11/02/2026 22:24

No judgement ? I’m not doing nor have I ever done something romantic with my children. Children shouldn’t be adored the way some parents seem to adore them nowadays.
I don’t celebrate it with my husband either .

This is so sad and miserable!! Of course children should be adored. There is obviously nothing romantic about it!! Valentine's is a day to celebrate love, not just 'romantic' love although considering you don't even make an effort with your husband I'm not sure what your point is other than you're a misery!

OP - I'm making an indoor valentine's day pink picnic for my kids and will write them some little notes about how much we love them and get the older two to write them for the family too. Will probably get them some love hearts and make bunting together.

Girl, atp, needs must! I’m this close to releasing my inner Sam jones on the bin men 🙈🙈🙈

(oversharing)

Edited

🤣🤣🤣
Needs must!

SherbetDipDap · 11/02/2026 22:27

My DH and one of my best friends are both doing cross country. Me and her DH will probably take the kids to the park or something. So er, I guess accidental valentines wife swap? Nothing specifically for the kids though.

weareallcats · 11/02/2026 22:26

I think I may be the Valentines equivalent of Scrooge as I pay no attention to it whatsoever (nor mother’s day, Easter, father's day...). I quite enjoy Halloween and Christmas, so am not completely miserable.
